Logan takes all of the other movies in this franchise and crushes them to a pulp, including the standouts X2/FC/DOFP. :lol

I still have a huge boner for what the MCU is giving me in a shared universe and fast group action but one has to be a blind fool not to see what Mangold/Fox have just unleashed onto the world.

They took a dumb ass unknown character like Caliban and a Wolverine rip off like X-23 plus Wolverine himself with Professor X and gave them enough of a real life onscreen for them to be able to grab onto the audience throats and make us feel for their journey.

Gripping and riveting.

It's awesome to read how riveting a film is versus discussions about box office nbrs. Definitely a different vibe in this cbm thread which is a welcome change.

All I know is

Been in Hugh's corner as Wolvie for a long time. After this send off, it'll be difficult for me to accept anyone else beyond Laura taking over the mantel. If they reboot the franchise with a male lead, it better be a damn good movie to make me accept him as Wolverine.

The next new male Wolverine HAS to wear his costume first movie out.

We have had enough non costume wearing Wolverine to last us a lifetime.

When I mean costume I mean his mask because his DOFP future costume was decent enough but all he did was sleep in it.

I for one am glad that I can respect a Logan, a TDK and the MCU formula all at once.

I can respect the grounded gut punching deeper adult dramas like TDK and Logan (Logan is more gut punching than TDK though, much more) WHILE I simultaneously allow my inner child to be super giddy witnessing Marvel breaking new ground with superheroes being flashy while crossing paths with each other.

Honestly the only thing not in good form during this renaissance is WB/DC.

But not respecting what the MCU has accomplished is just as foolish as not acknowledging that Logan is now one of the best superheros/cbm movies ever made or not acknowledging that WB/DC is not healthy.

Logan doesn't need hatred towards the MCU for it be good, one can love CW and still comprehend that Logan is superior.

Just give me this now

I agree with the Jye on all points.

Logan does indeed have more emotional oomph than even TDK - undoubtedly contributing to that is all the X-men films prior to it, even the lesser ones will have added something in some way. A span of 17 years with Jackman and Stewart playing these characters. So impressive. We will miss them.

Like others I'm really not sure how I'll take to someone else playing Wolverine...especially not if this same X-verse continues.

Yeah this is where all of their previous movies come in and help stir up our emotions, even X3 has a hand in that lol.

McAvoy's Xavier actually helped me accept a Stewart Xavier who throws out vulgarity and F-bombs. He sees no need for restraint towards the end of his life and he just lets his frustration out.

WB, Disney take notice how you handle saying goodbye to beloved characters / actors. The film sets the bar on an emotional level I doubt the other two will ever try to emulate.....so saying goodbye to other actors / characters will somehow feel less impactful. it might be a good thing tho

It's a shame about the few missteps along the way - inter-movie continuity issues, characters completely changing without explanation, poor use of and then casual dismissal of Cyclops, Apocalypse going too far with Fassneto and seriously wrecking the credibility of his continued friendship with Xavier etc etc

Otherwise Fox-men could have been, for me anyway, a pretty much perfect series. As it stands we have to take each movie on its own merits, pretending that certain things from previous movies didn't happen the way they did, when they did or that they didn't happen at all, pretending that Tyler Mane was the real Sabretooth or that Liev Schreiber was (but the events of his movie didn't happen)...ehhh...it's a bit of a head****

Well Disney already dropped the ball badly on Han Solo. That was a pretty terribly executed death scene. I didn't feel a thing when Han died.

And now Leia might be written out of the 3rd film. Only chance they have at a real proper death is Luke, maybe Chewie.

My rule of thumb, from now on is what I will dub "Logan's rule." "Maybe a quarter of it happened, and not like that." Logan is continuity, all else is...**** it, I'll pretend that all those movies were told to Laura by Professor Xavier, whom we'll henceforth refer to as the "unreliable narrator," which would explain all of the conflicting details.:lol I mean, ****, how many of those movies started with Stewart's/Charles' voiceover? At least the first three, right?:lol
