I've not read Old Man Logan, so I don't know many of the details beyond the broad brush strokes. But if they're doing a kind of post-apocalyptic thing with this approach, the Reavers make sense. Cyborg, almost Mad Max type rogues (more from the first Mad Max film than the others, though) roaming the wastelands, doing bad things, ultimately forcing Wolvie's hand despite his only interest being isolation and eventual death.

This should be the film's theme song:

"I'm reading last year's papers, although I don't know why. Assassins, cons, and rapers. . .might as well die. When you come around, no more pain and no regrets. Watch the sun go down, smoking cobalt cigarettes."

I think that's the gist of Jackman constantly hinting that this would be based on OML.

My guess is there are two parts to the story. One where Jackman is living secluded in 2024, completely done with heroics until Xavier comes to recruit him (like Hawkeye in OML). The other, when something happens (probably X23's need for protection) that makes him come out of retirement (hence his return to the mutton chops).

I'm actually hoping for something very very loosely based on the comic. The comic wasn't anything special in my opinion, it was a fun read but that's really it. I want something more like a Mad Max meets Unforgiven for Logan.

Do you think we'll be seeing some of the other OT X-Men in this? I was really hoping Cyclops would play the Hawkeye role of some sort. I definitely think Liev Schreiber will returning for this too.

Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) is Donald Pierce

He'll make for a worthy adversary. Though I still wish Schreiber had been brought back as Sabretooth. Oh well.

Alright, don't care about this one anymore unless a truly recognizable villain shows up like Sabertooth, Omega Red etc. I don't even like the MCU, but just hand it over already.

"Pierce’s name and appearance were modeled upon Donald Sutherland."

Naturally they just had to cast a bastard child of Garrett Hedlund and Robert Downey.

I don't know how he has been handled in the '90s and beyond, but Pierce was a fairly well known, mid-level villain in the '80s. He was a member of the Hellfire Club initially, before becoming a Reaver and being showcased in pretty memorable comics in the Claremont/Silvestri run. Wolvie is a bit like Superman or the Avengers, in that his rogue's gallery isn't all that deep or great IMO. Sabretooth wasn't even written as his arch enemy until the mid-80s, and before that it was basically Alpha Flight, Wendigo (neither of which were really his enemies), and random ninjas.

Post-apocalyptic? I doubt it, Wolvie is a limo driver in this thing :lol He's even wearing a suit and tie again, which makes me want to :yuck

At this point, this movie seems more like a mix between "Death of Wolverine" and "Innocence Lost" than an "Old Man Logan" adaptation.

OML was great. If you haven't read the subsequent OML volumes you should. All in all it does have a huge Unforgiven and Mad Max influence. A guy who's choosing late in life to return to violence because its the right thing to do.

Marsden definitely not. Clearly its Xavier who's playing the Hawkeye role, inviting Logan back to heroics.

Schreiber is still a possibility in a small capacity, but I'm not betting on it.

It can't be Old Man Logan when there are so many characters missing from the story. Also, I'm not a Old Man Logan fan, tbh. It's a cool concept, but it's a ridiculous story, imo.

I enjoyed the comic, but to me, towards the end it just kinda went too far off the rails for me. They made a follow up right?

Yea, I know he won't be playing that role, I just wished he had, I think there's a great Cyclops in Marsden and it's just a shame we never got to see it. I was more so asking if You think it's possible to see him show up in any capacity, even a cameo? I'd love to see some OT have some cameos, but are they all supposed to be dead in this or something? Because that's retreading territory from DOFP. I wonder how they're going to explain their absence.

Well, it depends. OML hinged on Logan killing all the X-Men, and his guilt. You can put someone else in Mysterio's role, but it doesn't have the same gravity as all the villains uniting and one frightful morning tearing down the world. That was a damn scary concept. Likewise, if you remove Red Skull and the fallen heroes, plus the Hulk clan, as well as Hawkeye and Spider-*****, you really just have a Post-Apoc Wolverine story, not OML specificaly (I also read that there was supposed to be a Doom sequence, where it'd be revealed that it was the Marquis of Death who was pretending to be Vic, as a callback to Millar's F4 run).

As it stands, I think it's going to be a mix of DoW and IL, serving as a goodbye for Hugh and an introduction to X-23. What I can't figure out though is how they're gonna put X-23 in the main timeline. I mean, if she's a kid in the "future", then how is she gonna pick up the mantle in the "present"? And I don't think they're gonna do anything time-travel related. My guess is that the next few movies will pick up after "Logan", with the youngsters being grown-ups.

PS: I'm not a big fan of OML either...

There was a Secret Wars mini, and a current ongoing. The ongoing is written by Jeff Lemire and drawn by Sorentino. And it's one of Marvel's, heck, the industry's finest books. I really regret not picking it up when it launched, but I might jump in a tad later. Jeff's killing it at the moment with both Moon Knight and Bloodshot, and I'm waiting to see what he'll do in Thanos.

There's two out right now (Warzones and Berserker) and a third coming out this month. I recommend them.

If you read OML, you should know what happened to the X-Men
Wolverine killed them all
and my guess is that's the main plot point they're adapting from OML which will explain why in this film set eight years after DOFP's happy ending, Xavier's the only X-Man left alive.

So, you don't like the MCU & haven't even seen this movie - yet you're still saying "hand it over"?

The Disney brainwash is real.

How can I be brainwashed when I don't really care about them or even seen them? I'm only interested in X-Men, and I'd rather see another studio work on them since Fox has only had three good films out of eight and rest is just a cluster **** of the same predictable nonsense. After Apoopalypse, I just don't care enough to see them lose the rights anymore. I liked DOFP a lot initially, but that wore off after the second viewing.

Don't take it so personally...

Isn't there time travel in the next Deadpool film? Anyway, I kid of want to see the Apocalypse cast and a new Wolverine. I don't care about X-23.

Ah thanks, I might actually check it then.

Yea I knew what happened to them in the comics, but since this is sort of a follow up for the OT characters, it seems a bit repetitive doing that to these characters again after the DOFP ending. But like I said before, I don't care about anything other then this being a great movie, which I think it will be. This is the first time I've been excited for a superhero movie since DOFP.
