Lonnie, do you feel sorry for Satan too? Could he not be considered a "victim?"

The MiB was always in black- the black blanket as a newborn with Jacob being in the white. Evidently there was a spiritual need for there to be 2 protectors, "good and evil", to balance out the island.

This particular story line is not logical, it is spiritual. It does not matter why. You might as well ask these questions regarding the Bible, any religion or any mythology, really.

IMO

The Mother was a control freak and Jacob wasn't a deity. Smokey wasn't allowed to leave because Mother wanted him to mind shop while she went on vacation. :lol

...I'd give the resolution of the island mystery a B+. As to the ridiculous sideways crapfest, I'd give that a D-. Yea, I'm bitter.

I kind of feel the same way about the sideways stuff. I still want to know why no one remembered anything if this was a "waiting area" for everyone until they were ready to "move forward"...

There's lots of apparent inconsistencies too - remember that Jacob told Richard that he couldn't bring his wife back to him...but didn't Jacob know that by dying, Richard would be reunited with her? And by giving him eternal life, he was condeming him to never be with her again? Seems like a pretty crappy thing for Jacob to do...in fact, seems like Jacob was a pretty crappy island protector in general, creating pretty much all the problems for himself.

Jacob wasn't exactly a saint or all good either. It could also be that he wasn't aware of an afterlife? Or just didn't really care about anyone.

But what about before he became Smokey Josh? What it still be the end of the world???

I think nobody was supposed to leave before so that way the island could never be found. That way any evil on the island would stay and not cause the end of the world.

They couldn't remember it because they weren't ready to move on/forward. Once everyone started coming back more into connection with each other and Jack died then everyone was ready. Back together as a group just the way they started the show. Moving forward as a group the same way they moved forward as a group on the island.

Yes, I feel sorry for Satan in a way... I don't really believe in religion, and if there really is a God out there that requires us to believe in him solely on faith, worship him (what an ego), and "has a plan for us" but still says we have "free will", then I don't think I want to believe in him...

Live together. Die alone.

One interesting observation among my friends and family. Those who didn't like this ending tend to fall in an agnostic/Atheist camp whereas those whom I would call more spiritually minded loved it.

I am wondering if the same lines could be drawn up here?

LOST was about the characters stories...
and how to ultimately deal with duality...

In the environment of the Island...
which ended up being the "MacGauffin"... even though at times they made it a character in itself, that ended when Jacob and MIB were introduced IMO

In the end, it really doesn't matter, I personally think they did an amazing job with the series... and even though lots of things were left unanswered, I felt it was complete.

It was always Man of Faith vs. Man of Science... the duality...
let go... move on...

Not with me. I tend to be agnostic - I want some proof of the divine, but boy did I love the ending. I look at it more in a philosophic way though than religious.

I don't think so... I'm not religious at all... and I loved it!!
IMO it has nothing to do with religion, it's more about internal peace...

Jacob wasn't intended to be all good, nor was MIB intended to be all bad.

Edit : I'm agnostic and I'm enjoying the ending more as I think about it. I know some athiests that quite enjoyed it as well.

Makes for interesting convo either way.

I loved it and have a strong faith. Take that for what you will.

Yeah people need to expell the notion that good = perfect (and thus infallible) and evil = flawed.

Whether I believe or not, doesn't effect how I view the show... I still can appreciate the "coming together" at the end, but the events leading up to it are what bother me. I still like Jack's end on the island, and think it was the "perfect" end for the show... Jack wakes up to begin the show, and Jack dies to end the show.
