This month is the 10 year anniversary of the beginning of the Sideshow SW line - which started with a Luke. Ironically, the beginning of the end of the line may also a Luke.:(:(:(

Sad thought.

I couldn't tell you how excited I was when I read about Sideshow doing STAR WARS 1/6th in November 2005. I set up an account immediately. Few months later, joined this site like many others. It's been a fun 10 years... but all good things...

That is sad. There really is no comparison and no argument can be made. SSC sculpt looks like it is from many many years ago.

Great big shiny balls!

:lol:lol:lol

I was pretty upset about Green Lantern price... but man.... they are very brave to charge this much. Throwing darts at the wall and see what price it hits....

That is sad. I honestly think there ROTS Kenobi and Anakin look better than this.

SSC can still release some great figures... Cad Bane, Ahsoka, Super Battle Droid.... Maybe we really should write letters to them....

Well, if we have to pay $240 for this, Toy Anxiety isn't paying too much less. And what is there to part out on this figure really? A jumpsuit with a few bits, a helmet and a head that everyone may be mocking as another Drake? So it's going to be $$$ on every piece of this fig unfortunately - if they even do (for them, it's a huge amount of money for a potentially shunned head and not many parts.)

Yeah, unlike the Hoth figures there aren't tons of accessories to sell off with this one, so I'm not sure how they would part it out either. $50 helmet? $60 jumpsuit?

It's funny the guy who posted this on Facebook had people commenting on it and ripping on it and of course he said that it's much better in hand and that the helmet and the drop down visor are awesome.

Also is the head sculpt worse than the Hoth Luke? I honestly can't say as that one photographed extremely poorly--obviously that Luke set was a great value, but putting $$ aside, is this one worse than that regular head sculpt?

I forgot to check back at his Facebook to see his response:

John Woo i still love it despite all the negative comments. To be honest, the actual thing looks better than the pics. it's a bit (as always) off in the pics due to the LED light i used. Helmet design is simply amazing and effective. Retractable goggle worths all the money, hahaha

That's the thing. It's not going to be in Hot Toys' territory, but I can't imagine it's as bad as it appears in his photos. Bright lighting and camera flashes often kill Sideshow sculpts.

I have better luck photographing $75 bootleg figures - such as the BBK Jonah Hex which has incredible detail and paintwork, including eyes full of life.

Where SS sculpts have detail it's very subtle. But once you get up close and study them you can see all the wrinkles and pockmarks. Not sure what the eyes are going to be like on this Luke as we can't see if they're glossy yet.

Was anyone actually expecting this to turn out like the proto with SS's history? HT SW will be the death of SS's SW line. (no droids are or aliens will save them) And good riddance.

I knew it wouldn't look like the proto. With SS, it NEVER DOES. Hot Toys usually end up better than the proto. The reason I care and comment on this figure that I'm not buying (and wouldn't take for free, I don't need the clutter), is because this is keeping HT from making one of my favorite Lukes. $240 for this thing. Unreal.

I know they're gonna ruin that Evil Dead Ash figure as well. What a shame. The new Army of Darkness blu-ray just came out, the Evil Dead TV show just premiered, and this figure isn't even up for preorder yet! It'll come out in 2 years when the interest has faded. Just like the Force Awakens craze going on right now and they don't even have ONE product announced! Hot Toys product is already in hand!

If it wasn't for the money SS is making off distributing Hot Toys, I bet they would have gone out of business a couple years ago. What do they sell that actually makes HT money?

Also, why does SS feel they have to explain that "special tooling" etc. raises the cost of their figures? Hot Toys makes an entirely new body, or makes some heavy alterations, for almost every figure that comes out! HOT TOYS! HOT TOYS! HOT TOYS!

There really is no comparison of Hot Toys to Sideshow at this point.
Hot Toys is just on another level IMO. I mean that sculpt is just ridiculous.
It's too bad. I was really looking forward to this one. Had to cancel.
I thought this displayed with the Tie Fighter pilot would be cool.
And it probably still will be if you use the helmet with the visor down. :slap

Just taken this of HT Luke on my iPhone wih full in the face flash and it still looks good.

It shows just how good the HT sculpt and paintwork is - they can generally withstand the brutality of a full flash.

Still baffles me why Sideshow can't insist their factories deliver higher quality end products. Even if their figures sell out anyway, you'd think that they'd want to deliver the best purely out of pride.

All I keep hearing in my head is...moley, moley, moley lol

This figure is honestly looking worse than any HT, Threezero, Star Ace figures releasing today and several unlicensed figures.

SSC have really reduced the amount of 1/6 figures they are making these days, so you'd think they would concentrate on really nailing the ones they do produce.

X-Wing Luke - The most scary thing i saw this Halloween.

In all seriousness though i don't understand why Sideshow can't get the paint right. Someone speculated that because HT are based in HK/China they have their staff there checking on the factories progress at every stage of production and demanding perfection and pushing for it and since they speak the language they can get their point across and not accept a subpar product where as Sideshow flys in a rep every few months to check production. I saw a video of XM who sell statues where the owner went to the factory and he really got his point across when the work wasn't good enough (and not in a nice way) but that's how it has to be or they will "phone it in" with the minimum amount of work possible.

I refuse to believe it's because Sideshow can't find the right factories or because they are paying less for their products because all the other companies are doing it well. Even unlicensed companies like Art Figures are producing HT quality paint apps. They need to hire some Chinese employees, better still Chinese-American to be on the ground there and keep on top of things if they want to charge $240 for figures like this.
