I don't think the disappointment in what we have seen in this figure can be contributed to just typical forum over reaction to early pictures with poor photographic quality. I haven't even heard much discussion about "likeness" concerning this figure, because I think the frustration at the quality is so bad that "likeness" has become almost irrelevant. Most of the trouble must be with the eyes, because most people seem to think it may not look that bad with the helmet on. The paint app for the skin tone also doesn't look good, but this is something that may show itself to be slightly better with better photography; but with SS reputation no one is holding in their breath. Also, the hair piece looks really bad, you can still see flash that wasn't trimmed away from the edges of the hair when it came out of the mold giving it a cartoon like wavy edge. All of this disappointment though is greatly compounded by two things - first head to head competition with comparable versions of the character from Hot Toys and second Sideshow's high price point which presents the product as something that promises to be better than it actually is. I think in this context the disappointment makes sense and is justified. We will see though if it really is enough to keep people from buying- I think in this case it may very well be.
If there is any overreaction going on, I think it is only in those statements that predict that every figure SS produces is going to be a dud. I understand of course the SS isn't doing itself any favors as they may string together some flops, but I am willing to judge each figure on its own merit. I'm not canceling my C3P0 because of this, and I am still going to keep an eye out for how Indiana Jones turns out. I may indeed in the end cancel 3P0 or pass on Indy, but I'll wait for in hand pictures of those before I decide.
