I got the same thing, I was turned off by the obviously overblown praise, but went on $5 night.

The action and CGI is pretty awful. Those Rhinos at the end were Phantom Menace quality.

For me, since I haven't seen it yet, was the floaty rubber end fight in the tunnels. Unless they changed that for the film, but I bet they didn't.
Really did think it was a video game ad when I first saw it.

At least you went. After being so excited about this film I finally figured out - after reading a lot of reviews and comments and outright spoilers - this isn't a film I wanna pay to see. The CGI alone bothers me just from watching clips. Like I get the impression that there were things that Coogler didn't care about - because he was gonna tell this drama and make his statement and that's where his emphasis was.

For me it's just not the movie I wanted or expected. And there's other stuff - besides the critic and audience emotional tidal wave and hype - that are irritating. Am sure there will be some things I really like when I do get around to seeing it at home, but my interest eroded away.

You're missing out on one of the most original and refreshing movies in a long time. It's not only thematically powerful, it's wonderfully character-driven and honest. The dialogue is superb, the cast outstanding and the soundtrack stellar. Coogler crafted something really special here. Something truly intelligent and inspired.

You'd be doing yourself a great disservice missing this gem in IMAX or theaters in general.

I respect your opinion. Mine is that you should go on $5 night. It might be everything brainy like he says, but it’s also not an A+ Superhero action movie. Don’t go in expecting the excitement and extended action that Marvel is known for. His power is that he can jump around like a cat and eat magic flower eggs. No Mjolnir. No repulsers. No web-shooters.

Something I never thought of but was brought to my attention; did any of you feel that T’Challa was underpowered compared to how he was in Civil War?

:dunno

When he got blasted when War Monger was breaking Golem out of detainment. Vibranium suit should have reflected that ****.

After letting it sit for a couple days , really just a disappointment. Usually I'll give marvel movies another go on Netflix or something , but this movie was so bland and felt kind of boring it will be a hard rewatch. Although I found the 3d to be pretty cool, and I'm a sucker for good 3d blu Rays. So we'll see.

This movie would have been more exciting if part of it took place in a place we can relate to.

It would have been neat to have an outside threat to Wakanda and the Panther took a small crew out into the world for their first time. Some fun fish out of water stuff, especially with the young girl who was BP’s Tech Inventor. Commenting on how the outside world is so primitive compared to what they have in the jungle.

And then, they bump into, and carry on with, one of the Avengers in an extended cameo. Ant Man or Dr. Strange. Someone with very different abilities than BP.
No. You wanted them to "Thor" this movie?

I loved Wakanda. Thought it was so refreshing that it wasn't a typical place on earth we all know. Even south Korea felt basic in comparison...it felt like a scene in Skyfall.

And I thought this story had so much merit on its own that it really didn't need an Avenger. I liked that it was just one man vs one man for the entire kingdom. I did wonder where cap was or Bucky but that doesn't mean I wanted them to appear and stay in it.

This was exactly how I wanted this.

He was definitely more powerful...but two of his fights he was drained of the herb. His new suit obviously gave him more abilities.

But the hand to hand fighting was more grounded. Like in the casino, he punched people and they'd fall down like regular action movies. In captain America movies, cap punches people through cement walks, kicks trucks into people. Like people legit die when he punched them.

Panther is supposed to be of equal power, so, yes, in that regards panther didn't feel as devastating to regular humans.

Edit: well in the first action scene he did, with his suit on, but out of his suit he didn't. I almost forgot he had super strength, speed, reflexes, etc. He did feel more of a force in his relentless pursuit of Bucky in Civil War.

Didn't find the cgi that bad, not worse than other marvel movies.

But I'm also the guy that still watches earths mightiest heroes when I need a good marvel fix lol so seeing something look somewhat animated to portray a fight between two superhuman is nothing.

I thought this movie could have used another epic panther action scene though. The first sequence in the beginning is so short. The ritual combat he's basically fighting as a human..and the final fight with killmonger is dark and kept being interrupted by the train thing.

Really only the s Korea part and the fight in the fields gave us clear Black panther action.

But I loved all the action, just wanted more. Had the film had a break I could have watched another 2 hours of what was happening in the film.

No other marvel film kept me wanting more (in a good way) as much as this except for winter soldier.

:( I just did not get that from this movie :(

I am surprised by the hype around Wakanda. I thought the Thor films with Asgard did it better.

Having said that I did not need it to be anything more then it was..

I don't consider that a knock though because I thought asgard was stunning as well.

But for wakanda it was so diverse. The city, the falls, the culture, the giant panther statue where they mined the vibranium, that shot with T'challa and killmonger overlooking the valley. Dude, I thought they crushed it.

And it was so nice than another city that we've all seen get demolished before at some point.

I keep reading how people thought the last fight between TChalla and Killmonger was very dark and couldn't see anything. What theatre did you go to because I saw it twice and I saw everything fine.

Not dark to the point where I couldn't make out what was happening, I mostly saw who was tagging who and when I didn't it was mostly because of how erratic it was shot at times or how quick they were moving. But still, a dark cavern with two characters in black suits isn't mold for the clearest fight scene.

:lecture :exactly:

Add to that, the night scene outside the Korean club, I think Marvel movie goers are used to the broad daylight action.
