Both have their merits. It all come down to personal preference. I think both camps are about even on this one. Both agree that the bodies for both aren't great for different reasons. It came down to head sculpt for me too. I like the Medi much better but SS had some great aspects as well. Its been discussed at great length in here about the pluses and minuses for both. Ultimately I used:
Medi:
Head
Outfit
Cloak
Boots
Binoculars
Hands
SS:
Belt
Sabers
Stand
HT:
Body
Neck
I am interested in how you did the neck thing.. Did you just take a standard neck that comes with truetype bodies and paint it?

Is there any reason to pick the SSC one over this or is it Medi all the way?
Miserable body but medi is a way better headsculpt. I debated a lot and bought medi. Worth it. Body is weak as it can be tho.

How bad is it exactly? And how does the size look next to Hot Toys figures?
Size is almost the same. You wont know the difference, also better hand options. Its just the body is "hollowish" very lousy. However, in my view there is no comparision as a better head sculpt takes the precedence. Also to me the clothes are much better tailored on the medi. The belt is a bit better in ss one. All in all, you probably need the medi one as you can live with the fragile body, not like you are making him jump off a cliff or so!

I think the brittle Medicom bodies apply to Darth Maul 1.0, as the re-release has an improved and much sturdier body as per those who owned both releases. I have the 2.0, and by far it's the figure that I changed poses most compared to ALL the figures in my collection that is mostly HT's, and I never had any problem with it. No loose joints, nothing. Medicom is usually underscaled compared to other 1/6 figures from other companies, but knowing that Ray Park is not too tall, I think the scale of the figure isn't much of an issue. The figure's about 11.5", and Ray Park being 5'9" I think scale's just about right.
Saw the SSC version -- IMO there's no contest. I only liked the belt and the sabers from SSC's. The rest Medicom version reigns over, IMO.
It's nice to see photos of him being friendly with fans.
Can't wait for my Legend.
Also, can't seem to find good-priced medi mauls loacally.
Sorry it took so long....
A short video of Ray at Earls Court in the Summer.
...he's a great chap. Loads of time for his fans, plus he posed for impromptu photos, even though his agent kept telling him not to!!
Cool pics! Hes got such a great resume to geek out over Star Wars, X-Men, GI Joe... I could give the man carpal tunnel signing stuff.
