Well again, this will be a great figure without question, but Sideshow did a good job and each will end up having flaws and high points. I'm with everyone else that thinks the Medicom robe material is off, while looking nice, is off and doesn't appear to do anything all the special, but SSC's hood's too small and Medi's is right so I like that. Sideshow's sculpt is far more Ray Park, but Medi's has more Maul paint apps. I can't look at either and say there's a definitive Maul figure, there are places for improvement on both of them.

If Mauls robes is anything like medi lukes i will be more than happy.(SS's maul robes look to toyish to me)

I find them to hang well like in the film. My big issue which was the first thing I noticed and liked about Medi Maul is the hood. I'm a Maul nut, and I've looked at countless pictures of him drawn him dozens of times and one thing that always stood out was the insane ammount of material to his hood, it sags a great deal behind him and in front of him, it's very wide in the front opening and while a little work can make Sideshow's look good from the front, any other view and the smallness of it is apparent. Medicom shaped his hood properly and that's important to me. It seems like such a minor detail, but to me it's like getting the shape of Vader's helmet slightly off, sure it captures the basic look, but it isn't exact.

That blank headsculpt is pretty good...You can really tell it's Ray Park...

It must be hard to have to work with something like that, considering that Maul is known for his kwazy tattoos...

Sculpting - SSC = Medicom
Paint Apps - Medicom > SSC
Actor Likeness - SSC > Medicom

It all evens out in the end, neither perfect.

I think I'll be getting one of these down the road. It will be nice to have a figure without a huge nose for a change

You say that, but Park is packin' heat in the nose department. I'll take the psychical challenge Mark!

Indeed, that's one area where I'm highly critical of Maul collectibles, Ray's nose, and after the first release, Hasbro's noses started being almost pointy and totally lost the shape. The shape of Ray's nose is part of what defines the tatoo shapes and that's what's burnt into my memory.

:lol Yeah, Ray does have a bit of a big nose. But he totally rules. Met him twice, both times he was super nice and funny.

And really, we can't judge the Medi paint apps just yet... still haven't seem production shots. I'm excited to see it coming though, this one might be worth picking up. A Medi Maul will no doubt be poseable as Hell. :rock

only thing that I find fault in the SSC sculpt is the eyelid.. if you want a more intense maul and non-lazy looking is if you make it like if hes looking up into them.. While if you look at the medicom's sculpt you can see it's cleary park, with a more intense expression because hes looking up through his lids. Same thing with Jedi luke... I noticed a trend here.

Medi made a very nice portrait, but regardless of eye position/expression, their sculpt is still off from Ray. They manage to get some areas of a portrait as they should be to match the actors, but jawline structure in particular tends to hurt their heads from looking like the person they're supposed to be, and in Maul's case, the nose looks a little smaller than Ray's as well. It's a great Maul head in a generic sense, but it's not a great Ray Park Maul head.

Who cares if it looks like ray?It looks to me like Darth ****ing Maul. And the best HS out there so far.(some of you guys make me laugh :))

Whats that Ray IS darth maul? Please,it's darth maul no mistaking...if the two were standing side by side could the average person pick them out?

Best darth maul to date!!!I hope the production matches the protos.
