I've been checking out the pics on the link Krayt posted, and to be quite honest, the paint apps look like crap.
I wonder if the material will hold a little dry-brushing.

Depends on your definition of good. If you're looking for accurrate, I wouldn't hold your breath.

While I like the look of the 1/4 scale bust they made, the head is very much shaped like post ALIENS heads, even when there's no mechanism for an opening mouth they didn't get the curve right.

And based on precedent with the ALIENS figure, I'm not counting on them to not take artistic libery with the look, if they actually make it accurrate, I'll be upset if they don't revisit ALIENS and get that one right.

At any rate, yeah, I'm not holding my breath waiting for HT to deliver an accurate alien.

I'm talking about it only because there was a comment about what HT's ALIEN might turn out like and expressing my low expectations, which is my driving motivation to get this Medicom figure.

For me, the original ALIEN isn't about being a ferocious creature, which the artistic liberties of HT lead to on the ALIENS figure, and that was ok, but for a figure of the ALIEN, I want stronger replication of the source details, and Medicom's not perfect, but based on the ALIENS figure from HT, far more accurrate than what I expect from HT for ALIEN. If HT does it right then I'll be eating my money for this Medi figure, but if I have this one, at least I have a 12" scale replica figure of the ALIEN. I'm going to part with the 18" NECA one soon, it's cool, but just too huge and unsturdy, 8" of that is good enough and this Medicom figure will cover larger scale.

They might use it for sculpting reference, but I'm sure some details will change to allow the mechanics of the opening mouth.

Bust looks like it came out well in production. I hope I can snag it later, I had to cancel my order for now because of the money but I want it, part of why I snagged the Predator was to have the two of them, I ordered the ALIEN first.

I like the bust and all but hopefully HT's big chap will look great. Sorry to dweal on a future HT Alien release. Anyways I only owned one Medi fig ROTS Vader. But I sold him. Hope this fig will be sturdy..

I haven't gotten round to reviewing it yet as I got it in a large haul recently and the Bat-pod is in the air as we speak so I think it'll be the new year till I get onto it.
But between you and me it's hands down my favourite HT bust so far, love it!

Ah, ok, gotcha!

And I agree, the whole point of the first alien wasn't how ferocious it was, it was how menacing it was.

Let's hope this medi-version blows us away once it's in-hand!

I thought that bust was supposed to be 1/4 scale. It doesn't look any bigger than the 1/6 figure. What gives? Glad I didn't get one to go next to my 1/4 scale Pred maquette from sideshow. I'd just be all kinds of pissed off right now.

The problem is, anytime they do accurate, they never capture the head right...the mouth had this look to it that I havent seen captured by any figure...

Is that so hard?

I still think the NECA comes closest, but you're right, there's always something slightly off. I also think, however, that it has a lot to do with scale. It is very difficult to get the dome to come down so close to the "lips" on a small scale.

EDIT: Just got my shipping notice from Yesasia! My Medi-alien is on its way! Yey for me!
