Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

:exactly:

I didn't realize that he had issue with NVG goggles in the 60's. He looks like a big ****ing hypocrite now doesn't he? MGS always pushed the envelope with tech within the series but it was always based on in-development tech so it wasn't out of the realm of reason.

I'll give him the Shagohod, it wasn't crazy advanced, but ZEKE? In 1974? GTFO.

I'm glad most of us are in agreement on the fumbling in the last few games.

Here's his quote about the NVGs and thermal goggles from an interview that was conducted by PSM2 Magazine:

PSM2: Has the 60's setting affected the level of technology you were able to include in the game?

Kojima: To a certain extent, yes, but things like the thermal and night vision goggles are things that didn't really exist in the 60's but we've included them regardless of the time because these are things that existed in the previous episodes and work well in the game. As for how it affects the story, instead of relying on high technology, Snake now fights using his physical body. That is the focus of the time.

Although he took a few liberties with the technology in MGS 3, at least he tried his best to keep it in the realm of possibility - by having Naked Snake focus on his CQC skills to incapacitate his enemies - among other things. The Shagohod was really nothing more than a rocket propelled tank, with a large missile launcher for firing a nuke, and it's technology looks extremely dated when contrasted with REX and RAY.

But, Kojima just threw all of his concerns away with Peace Walker and went ***** out.

Edit: b alls is censored? Seriously?!

Shagohod dates well in the sense that it looks so damn archaic. And yes, it's nothing more than a tank and the whole crawling thing it could do really wasn't anything of value in terms of movement. It was more of a "crawl before you can walk" thing and I think it worked very well in showing where Metal Gear as a family came from.

"Even the technology that gave birth to these weapons is Russian, developed by us!"

But Peace Walker and ZEKE ruined all that...

Ballz is censored, I don't know why either :dunno

That's a really good analysis about the Shagohod's design. I never thought about it that way.

Even Metal Gear RAXA looked so cumbersome, and archaic compared to what we've seen in Peace Walker. In fact, RAXA was like a step below the TX-55 and Metal Gear D. So, in that sense, Portable Ops just felt more canon to the series.

Personally, I'm willing to write off Peace Walker - and depending on how GZ and TPP turn out, as alternate universe timelines for MGS (similarly to how so many Terminator fans regard T3 and Salvation :rotfl).

RAXA was more of a experiment in seeing what was the perfect way to deliver warheads. It definitely was beneath the 90's level of mechs so yeah MPO is definitely canon to me no matter what Koji or other fans think.

PW was a fumble of the franchise ball in every sense and it's not attacked as much as it should be by the fans since it's glorified by mostly COD bros. I like PW for the gameplay, and nothing further.

Peace Walker is a fun game. But, it's just not a very good MGS game in relation to the canon. The new characters were also awful; Chico and Huey need to die, and I never cared for Amanda. Paz was very interesting seeing as how she turned out to be a double agent. But, I nearly dropped my PSP from violently laughing, when she revealed that her real name was "Pacifica Oceana"? WTF was that all about... :rotfl. The Pacific Ocean????

Not to mention the "peace" this, "peace" that was mentioned ad nauseam. McDonell Benedict Miller being turned into "Kaz" Miller (and "Kaz" means peace).

Ugh!!!!! :gah:

Screw this hippie bull****!!!!

Being constantly CONSTANTLY reminded on what era it was truly bothered me. That **** didn't happen in MGS3 once for me, you would get bits of story to remind you it was in the 60's but it didn't go out of it's way to do so.

Pacifica Ocean might be the worst thing to ever grace the series.

And Huey ughhh that cuckold to Otacon :lol

It doesn't even feel like Earth in MGS anymore. Just some semblance of a distant world in a parallel universe. The series has turned "Japanese" in the worst way possible - just like a crazy Anime.

When "Love Deterrence" played during the Zeke battle, it reminded me of Gundam.

You pegged exactly what the series has become, bravo. Story telling went out the window after the great MGS3, that's certain. MGS1 will be the peak of the series forever to me.

MGS 3 was just perfect in capturing the feel of the 60s. You could tell that it was during the Cold War, by Naked Snake's cheap equipment, and the way that he had to survive in the jungle by killing and eating, instilled a sense of how "primitive" the era was, compared to what we saw in MGS 1 and 2.

Peace Walker was more science fiction than it should have been.

Despite Big Boss's holographic map and robotic arm in GZ and TPP, the game does look interesting. I'm still hoping (perhaps futilely) that it returns some much needed sanity back to the series.

***in. A. Which is why it is my favourite by a mile and my namesake here.

I'll ignore more inconsistencies with the technology as long as he finally puts the series back on track.

But the hologram thing is hard to swallow :slap

I love MGS1-2-3 but beyond that it's a cluster**** with lazy story telling and cheap answers to questions we've debated over for close to a decade.

MGS3 and MGS1 are still my favorites.

Same here, but I still stick MGS1 at the top of the food chain.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Imo Mgs3 is good only cause it followed closely to what worked well in the first game.
