Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Do you think Kojima could have used Hayter's voice? Or did he maybe need some sort of rights permission?

Hard to say. Isn't the original MGS1 audio gone? I know the Twin Snakes audio still exists, but Nintendo owns that. And at this point, Kojima has some kinda problem with Hayter so he won't be asking him. And I think Hayter if he was asked, would do it only for the fans and not for the money.

I've mentioned it in a few pages before, but it really depends on his contract. He might be entitled to residuals. He refused to comment on the Silent Hill HD debacle few years back (despite being asked his opinion) most probably because he was in good terms with Konami at the time. Judging by how David has went public with the VA change, I'm guessing his contract was similar to the Silent Hill cast.

There were loopholes in the contracts of the Silent Hill cast allowing them to claim residuals for any re-use of their performances which lead to Konami recasting the roles. It was only until the actor playing James challenged Konami that they agreed to compensate him.

Also, to make matters worse, it's apparent that Kojima does not care about the English cast unlike Team Silent where they tailored everything to the Western actors. The PS2 Silent Hill games were leagues ahead of MGS2 and 3s' lip synching.

Yeah, but that would make look Kojima like a bigger *******, and he can't have that :lol

Are we even sure this is voice recordings for THIS specific mission? I mean, all I see there is one regular rescue mission, with a pack of skins...In my mind it has the same audio of the regular mission, cause it's just a skin pack.

Didn't know all that, seems like Kojima really doesn't want anything to do with Hayter.

leagues ahead MGS2 lip syncing? What difference can there be? It was PS2. :lol

It's probably nothing more than a skin pack to compliment a different mode of gameplay. Kojima seems to be indulging in his own misguided nostalgia of MGS1, I don't think he's aware that us English speaking gamers don't share his sentiments considering Akio Otsuka will be voicing the MGS1 Snake in Japan, so that means Japanese gamers will get the best deal while the rest of us are left longing for something more.

I know, some David Hayter for that mission would have been awesome, what a missed opportunity.

Or is it not too late? Is this change.org material? :lol

Bringing back Hayter for the whole game may be a long shot, but what about this one?

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Hayter just retweeted and ign article confirming his voice isn’t being used.

MGS2 had TERRIBLE lip synching, and MGS3 was even worse. It felt like the actors and the 3D models were in different dimensions. It has nothing to do with the acting, it's about the lack of optimization by the developers. Heck, even the cast of MGS used to complain about this.

Here, notice how the lip movement of the characters in these two short clips. It's just plain embarrassing.

MGS3:

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Oh wow, you're right, I didn't play SH after 2, it is way better.

Anyway, I didn't mean the acting, just the lip syncing.

Oddly, this time around you can tell the lip sync was made for a the English dub, even in the japanese trailers you can tell they're speaking English.

You should play SH3, it's the last great Silent Hill and one of my favorite games of all time, just avoid the HD collection. :lol

MGS started to have proper lip synch in MGS4, and certainly MGSV as well. 2&3 were truly bad even for their time. Anyway, point of the conversation is that it just supports the theory that Kojima isn't as sensitive towards the Western market as one might think.

But if 4 and V have proper lip synch , then maybe he is.

Also I might get crucified for this, but I have been listening to the voice acting in the GZ intro, Peace Walker, and MGS1, I think Keifer sounds more like MGS1 Snake than Hayter does in Peace Walker. Peace Walker his performance is almost laughable, I forgot how bad it was.

Not saying this to be a good thing either, I prefer Big Boss sounds different from Solid, but it is something that sounded very similar to my ears.

I will, I have a ton of **** ot play/read/see this vacations :yess:

Yup, it feels like Kojima hit the jackpot appealing almost by accident to western fans with MGS1.

Yeah, but you know who sounds better than all of those, David Hayter in MGS1 as Solid Snake in MGS1 :lol

No doubt about it. With Hayter or Sutherland now, that voice can never be replicated.

I get what your saying about hayter he never sound as good as he did on Mgs and Mgs2..

Yea man, Peace Walker though was just terrible, I recommend you give it this video a listen, some of it is a bit cringeworthy.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I agree, it was pretty bad in Peace Walker.
But all they'd have to do is tell him to tone down the gruff. Then He'd sound just like MGS1 Snake!

But yeah I doubt they'll ever bring him back now. Unless there's a lot of rage when MGSV is released or Kojima doesn't make MGS6

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I don't believe Kojima when it comes of the majority of this game. I'm just gonna wait everything out. Feel like he will surprise a lot of people in a good way. New fans and old ones. Like I mentioned before, haven't been this stoked on a game in a long time, especially on a Next Gen. I don't want to spoil too much for myself, but there is no way it can be worse than 4. Well, almost positive it can't.

Maybe they have and he couldn't do it. I heard rumors about smoking made his voice worse and hayter himself said that mgs1 voice was very hard to do
And was ruining his vocals
Or something to that effect
