Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

You know, I was coming to terms with it's yet another Big Boss game... and now this? It's getting to the point I just don't have the energy to care anymore...

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, it does soften the blow IF the VA change was done more ceremoniously, as in let Hayter give out pointers to this new guy. It would have been a respectful passing of the torch. Kinda like how Adam West gave his blessings to Kevin Conroy and how Conroy has at least guest starred in every Batman show that he doesn't play Batman.

It's none of our business but come to think of it, Kojima followed Garbage and even tweeted and retweeted them. He doesn't follow Hayter, nor has he ever tweeted to him. The (awesome) band that was on you trailer was more important than the guy working 15 years for you.

That really puts things into perspective. It seems like Kojima just never cared about Hayter to begin with. I at least had the impression, that they had a good working relationship, especially since it was mentioned on various sources that Hayter would often provide his input on the scripts of the games, and spoke to Kojima directly.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I out this on his facebook, I know it doesn't mean much but I feel like a friend of mine died.

"You will always be my childhood icon David. You will be incredibly missed. The series is officially dead to me."

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Didn't Hayter have some conflicts with Kojima and Konami regarding the ending of MGS4? He wanted Snake to take his own life, and said he fought and argued to try and get this ending, but he was overruled (obviously, and I doubt he ever had a chance to chance to influence the ending). Does anyone think Hayter's relationship with them was soured after that? Of course, that seems pretty unlikely, I'm just grasping for anything to make sense of this.

Kojima has always been up his own arse

I doubt it. Koji Pro vetoed the original Kojima ending of Snake and Otacon being executed. They both wanted the same thing almost, but they had to give us that stupid fluff ending.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Hayter put this on his facebook.

Sorry folks it's not an april fools joke:(---emma

Yup, the reason Hayter tweeted his statement was because he had to get it out before he was being interviewed by Electric Playground. In other words, this isn't a joke. :(

While Hayter doesn't post or see fans on Facebook, Amanda Mack runs the Facebook fan page, and I got to knew her years back. She's good friends with Hayter and a good person. Well done fan page if ya ask me.

Oh yeah, you're right, that was more in line with what Kojima originally wanted. Well, their statements so far just makes Kojima/Konami look bad to a lot of fans, I hope they clear this up somehow, or at least give a better reason for letting Hayter go. That's very unlikely, I know. This is all making me feel a bit bad, Hayter's voice was probably the best voice in video games to me.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I just can't believe this happened, I just can't. I have no emotional investment in this garbage now. That's right, no Hayter equals a garbage game no matter how well the graphics, gameplay or whatever else they developed with stupid Fox engine.

And thanks to that, having "Here's to you" as the end song in the credits didn't make any sense at all. I'd like to think that Kojima has the creative control of the series, but he often chooses to bend to the will of those working with him.

Life could be worse y'know. We could probably end up with a soulless remake of Escape from New York. Oops. :slap

I don't think we'll hear anything else from KojiPro, other than what was already stated concerning the letting go of David Hayter. This entire thing is probably just a non-issue for them.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Didn't we already know that Kojima didn't need him for THIS game? I mean there's no mention about not needing him for the rest of the future games, if they are ever made, I see no reason for Hayter to say goodbye to the franchise, at least not while fans are showing all of our support.

I think most of us - maybe all of us, are pissed at the way that David Hayter was just let go without any sort of explanation. No one ever bothered to contact him. He had to call Konami and got told the bad news by a company rep.

From the dismal way that his press statement was worded, I doubt that Hayter actually expects to return to the series. At least, that's the impression that I got from it.

That's what I'm still hoping, and that they're doing this because Solid Snake will eventually return, and they want to establish a separate identity for Big Boss starting from this game. That's the only positive way I can view this Hayter situation.

Yeah, that would make sense considering Konami's track record so far. :(

edit: I should say, I don't want to bring this thread down with my sad posts, I hope everyone still posts theories and stuff about the game itself, not just this situation. :)

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

If you want David Hayter to sit out on JUST this one then SAY IT. Sheesh, it's not that hard, Konami.
