Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I don't think that makes you less of a fan or anything. As I said, I understand that perspective completely, and I'm super excited for this game and buying it regardless. It's something that will affect cutscenes for me, but when I'm playing the real game for hours on end, I can imagine him with any voice I want, so I'll deal with it.

I'll admit I'd be even more upset if Solid Snake's voice was changed. After MGS4 and Peace Walker, at the time my theory was we would get Hayter as younger Big Boss and a new actor as older Big Boss. It's just disappointing that the playable character won't have that iconic voice. Letting Hayter go with little explanation and no word of his future with the series is a big part of the problem, like others have said.

That is if Kojima even cares enough to pursue him anymore.

Yeah that's true, and right now it feels like he doesn't. :( I guess I'm keeping a wait-and-see attitude, but if both Snake and Hayter never return, that'll certainly make me see the franchise differently. But if Kojima is done with him, I suppose no one can force him to think otherwise. MGS4 felt like a goodbye to Snake altogether IMO, so I suppose I've already prepared myself for that.

I did, it just doesn't feel like it was executed right. The whole Old Snake thing just seemed disrespectful for him to go out like that.

I so want to see the young, impetuous Solid Snake again

I noticed a lot of people feel it was disrespectful, I do understand that. For me, at first I was a bit upset that Snake gets his own full game again, but he's a dying old man. But after playing it, I felt it made Snake even more of a bad-*** in some respects, because even when losing his youth, health, and to some degree his dignity, he never complained and he just kept fighting through until the end, even with a sense of humor about it all at times.

Kojima said he himself felt the signs of aging in his own life and that was a theme in the game, and I found some of it very moving, such as the nostalgia that comes when nearing the end. I certainly understand all the complaints, but even the ending didn't really bother me, since I always wished for Snake to have some sort of happy ending, retiring back in Alaska with his dogs or something. :lol Maybe it would've been more dramatic and moving if he ended up executed along with Otacon, but I didn't see the end they went with as a bad thing. :)

I just hope that Kojima doesn't pull a fast one, and place Big Boss as the main character in an Outer Heaven game, with Solid Snake as the main antagonist. The reason I say that, is because he seems to like Big Boss a little too much now days.

EXACTLY!

It felt like a eternity waiting for a conclusion to MGS2 and we get Nursing Home Snake? And he was given such a bleak end to his life, no love, no nothing.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

There's so much to tell about the relationship between BB and Snake.

Not to forget Liquid as well.

Old Snake was supposed to be an analogy for Kojima "passing the torch" of MGS to the younger generation of developers at KojiPro. But, he never stepped aside, and is still making MGS games to this day. Not that I have a problem with that. But, he shouldn't have altered Snake in such a way, to represent the changes in his own life (that never came into fruition).

It will be explored deeper if they do the MSX remakes that everyone has wanted for years at this point.

Liquid was way too good a character to write off after one game. Still my favorite villain of the series.

:rotfl:rotfl Man I feel bad for Snake laughing so hard at that. :lol

I find it so strange that Solid never even crossed paths with Liquid in the earlier days of his life. I wonder how they got separated for so long.

I'm not going to criticize Old Snake too much. Mei Ling was very much into his new look, and I'm pretty sure that he tapped that *** before becoming Dead Snake.

Liquid was sent to the UK when he was but a kid. He then worked with the SAS and was held captive in the middle east for quite some time

There's lots that can be whined about in MGS4 and its ending, but turning Snake into an old man, is not on of those things. It is a great idea. To show the old, gruff, disgruntled war hero, who finds himself totally isolated and outclassed in a digital world in which there is no more place for "old war dogs". Plus, just becouse he was older, doesn't mean he was any less of a badass, more in fact, as You have said. There was always something of a "aging tough guy" about Snake, and they just went with this theme in MGS 4.

Also it took a lot of b-alls and boldness from Kojima, to go completely against the current trend of video games protagonists (all male, all white, mid 20- mid -30 crackers with perfectly chiseld faces). Honestly I haven't really encountered this kind of dissapointment with Old Snake, anywhere except for this particular forum thread.

I cannot for the life of me understand what is "disrespectfull" about showing him as an older man (disrespectfull - rotfl. Talk about overreaction and character worship). It's not like Kojima showed us a version of Snake that has to wear a diper, and suffers from memory problems.

The only thing to dread about Old Snake is that unfortunate mustache...

I know, despite being a "villain" you can be so empathetic with him, not to mention he's badass as *****!

Edit: funny, I got (b)alls censored but not badass, lol.
