CVG: 7/10 - Ardent stealth fans will no doubt replay the prologue's few missions for many hours, but for the rest of us, and certainly those who value the Metal Gear series for its narrative above all else, Ground Zeroes presents a purchase conundrum that is not easily justified.
GamesRadar: 3.5/5 - MGS diehards that can't bear waiting for the next game will devour this appetizer, but the curious should be prepared for how unfulfilled Ground Zeroes' small portions will leave them.
OPM: 8/10 - Rich in depth and quality, if not quantity, this prologue provides an exciting peak into a potential PS4 classic. Just steel yourself for a bite-sized Big Boss.
GameSpot: 8/10 - Though it's unusual for everything to take place in a single location, there's so much to do and see, and whether you take a stealthy or head-on approach, infiltrating Camp Omega is a thrilling experience that shouldn't be missed.
Polygon: 5.5/10 - It's staggeringly short and unsatisfying, feeling more like a cash grab than an honest-to-goodness installment in a beloved franchise.
IGN: 8/10 - Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is a short but challenging game, and those willing to cast aside conventional expectations will find a lot more here than first glance might suggest.
Eurogamer: 9/10 - As a precursor to Phantom Pain, it suggests that greatness awaits, but even on its own terms Ground Zeroes is something special.
Joystiq: 3.5/5 - Too good to be a cash-in, too calculated to be satisfying and too intriguing to spurn, Ground Zeroes is a fiscal test of patience. If you can't wait for the next stage of Metal Gear Solid, I'm afraid you'll leave this about the same as you went in.
Game Informer: 7/10 - Even for longtime fans of the Metal Gear franchise, Ground Zeroes may not be worth playing. It spreads its strengths thin over too little space, relying on the repetition of a handful of unremarkable missions in the same area.
VentureBeat: 55/100 - Until we can get our hands on The Phantom Pain, this pick-pocketing by Konami is the only consequential bit of stealth to be had with Big Boss this year.

Well, IMO KS's voice IS more realistic, maybe cause it's closer to his real voice, and Hayter's Snake voice is just cartoony, for audio purposes the motion capture has nothing to do with the end result.

Do I think Hayter could have pulled it off? Honestly don't know.

Well, Kiefer only uses his real voice :lol. He did have some incredible delivery as Jack Bauer in 24, and I'm sure it was probably the same in Ground Zeroes.

Hayter's performance was a bit off at times in PW. But, he proved himself with four solid (no pun intended) games in the series. I'm sure if given the chance, he'd be able to do it again (I'm not sure how realistic that is, though).

Thats a fair assessment, but the VA isn’t perfect, some of the other characters still sound a bit anime-ish, KS on the other hand kept the same tone the whole game, even when he was delivering jokes. It’s totally subjective, but I thought he did a great job, I’m sure there are people who probably thought he didn’t.

I remember how Skull Face sounded in the English trailer. I didn't like his voice at all, compared to the Japanese voice actor.

Wow IGNs review think it has a weak story ending. I dunno if im just a minority but i really loved the drama on the ending... for me it fuels the revenge the main characters seek for the next game which leads to the demise of the 'heroic' image they have built for themselves

Kiefer is making his voice more gravely, but I think theres about two times in the game, he drops the gravel and sounds just like Kiefer. TPP is supposed to be his edgier, more angry take on Snake, his true performance is in that game.

Wow those reviews are brutal, I'm not surprised at all and I'm glad reviewers are calling out Konami on their cash grab, after reading those I'm highly compelled not to buy the game, don't get me wrong I support MGSV, I like Kief and like where Kojima is taking the franchise, but I find it reaaaally hard to support those practices by Konami that are disrespectful to the gamers.

I have a strange theory on Skull Face, but let me tell you, that intro cutscene is him at his worst, later on he sounds way better, especially in the tapes you find. The intro definitely doesn’t do him justice.

I agree, the ending was awesome.

You know, I'm starting to wonder now if there's anything about Kiefer's voice that can still surprise me, because I thought I heard it all.

I'm just glad that someone else besides the usual guys (eg. me, Plis, Ryan, Frank, etc) is saying it now :lol. Even if we'll never see eye-to-eye philosophically for the direction of MGS, at least we can both agree that is a blatant, cash-grab marketing scheme by Konami, that doesn't have our best interests at heart.

Kiefer definitely doesn’t have much range as a voice actor, but I think his voice really fits with the character, kind of like how Keith David doesn’t change his voice much for the Arbiter, but his voice it’s so distinct, it just fits perfectly.

Yes, make no mistake, my opinion regarding the creative path of the franchise is still very positive, but it's kind of insulting that they ask you to pay 20 bucks to experience what it is in their words 0.5% of the actual game... It just hit me right now.

That's pretty much it, the voice fits BB perfectly.

That's pretty much it. Ground Zeroes will have only five-percent of the content of TPP, and cost half as much. It's not a good deal at all, nor a fair pricing structure.

Where the heck did I kept my bag of peanuts for all these reviews? :impatient:

*munches Ryan's peanuts* :panic:

I expected it, I knew it wasn’t getting 9’s and 10’s. My own personal score was an 8 due to the limited story, which is what most MGS fans care about the most. The game itself is exactly what most were expecting, a glimpse into the main game, with a variety of things you can do to become more efficient with the controls. Playing this is easily the best experience I’ve had with my PS4 so far. That will probably change once I get Infamous SS. The scores it’s getting are pretty good for what the game is.

Well considering it's only 5% of the main game. It's price should of reflected that, then maybe it wouldn't of been reviewed so harshly.

Yeah i think most of the criticism of the game is directed on the absurd price tag. I dunno maybe at 10-15 dollars and have it digitally distributed just as how demos are released would sound ok... well except for countries with slow internet speed like ours :lol

You know i wouldnt be surprised if they pulled something like that months before the release of PP.. look at what they did with MG rising.. DLCs are free hehehe

My thoughts exactly :hi5:
