If that thing looks anymore like REX, it will be REX. Why undermine the tech of 20 years into the future of the series? Makes it seem like **** in the 80s is more cutting edge than RAY...

I understand he took liberties with the Thermal Goggles in MGS3... but c'mon already. If they mention Nanomachines in this at all, I'm popping the disc out and breaking it in half.

It's more like a feature or a theme in the franchise now to repeat use the same ideas, poses, people, mech etc.. not sure why but they love re-using ideas and repacking them so they are relatable to other things in previous titles

Gray Fox - Raiden
MGS1-MGS2 (although with reason)
Bringing Liquid back in the form of Ocelots personality
MGSV precursor Rex - Rex
Solid Snake - Big Boss - Solid Boss - Big Snake

I'm guessing there is a large majority who like it, can't say its right or wrong i suppose

You can say it with all franchises and sequels. My only issue is the outright ridiculousness he's taken the tech in the prequels. Artificial Intelligence in 1974? C'mon.

I don't personally like it, it can be viewed as unoriginal or fan service

it's mainly the mech, i think they do well with other features like Fortunes bullet dodging being the electromagnetic device, that works as a feature and as a more than plausible and fitting reason for it. These are all MGS3 and prior though as you say its the prequels

The mech they don't give a ****, make it look like enough like REX for the nostalgia and we done, seems like very inside the box thinking for MGS

Great way to put it. MGS2 IMO, was the last one that really thought outside of it. I've said it a bunch of times, but you can't look at it at face value. It was the deepest game of the series and most people don't take it that way. Yes it's a clone of the first game basically, but it fits the narrative of what the game was trying to tell you perfectly. I'm currently going through MGS3 recently, and I've forgotten how much I love it... but it was the start of the dumbing down of the series... it was a spy/love story. It's a cinematic marvel by all means though.

There was nods to the older games, but it still kept it's identity. I always took Granin's REX designs as an Easter Egg and not "canon" to the series... but turns out I'm wrong. The series has always taken current tech and pushed it to the next level to where it was commonplace, or takes indevelopment tech to a prototype stage. All the stuff in PW and MGSV seems to undercut all that... and kinda makes the future games not make any sense in terms of the timeline development of technology.

The problem with the mech is its over fan services. I think fan service is a hard line to walk.

Here it's a little too much. Boss has MGS1s sneaking suit, MGS1s dog and MGS1s Metal Gear. Next it'll have a snow level, shadow Moses like base.

It takes away from not just Solid Snake but BigBoss aswell

Lest not forget there's an eyepatch wearing, sneaking suit dog

Even with all the above, I got a good feeling this is going to me a much better game than MGS4

If anything I feel it will be more fun to play honestly. And hopefully be more playable than a movie :lol

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

Gone from an interactive movie to an episodic game, complete with rumoured credits after each :lol

If it's true then it is a bad move and not just subjectively either. I think most will agree it's a terrible decision and somebody hit it on the head earlier in the thread by saying it'll break the immersion

No doubt they will be skippable so why do it then?
