I'm half tempted to cancel my LE.
Pretty much, sad as it may be.It was a rushed and unplanned game with terrible writing... nothing redeemable in it.
That game is seriously why I stopped taking reviews seriously. I remember getting so much **** from some acquaintances who were into MGS when I questioned it (Solidus knows about one of them!) now they admit they don't know what they were thinking. Well most of them.I never trust critic reviews anymore...

For all its worth, I think MGS4's visuals are still something, but nothing more. Cutscenes though? Pfft. I remember some of those same reviewers complained about MGS1's cutscenes and every other game, yet MGS 4 then got a pass due to being pretty - hmm, where have I heard that before? I minded MGS cutscenes in a few instances prior to 4 for being a little too long (end game cutscenes mostly) and a few rare instances only when I thought 'this isn't actually contributing to the story, is it?', but some others like the post-boss fight cutscenes intrigued me.It's probably due to the hype and technological innovations the game had at the time. Remember, it was truly remarkable at launch, People never thought games could look that good. Heck, everyone was so mesmerized by the visuals, even professional reviews noted that they didn't mind the cutscenes.
Compare that with MGS2 where we've all grown to appreciate its fine work. I can safely say I'm beyond the Raiden hate, the weirdness of the story, and that I've grown to like those two aspects, among other things. That's true, but as a fan... I didn't like it right from the get go... it's been almost 10 years since release and my opinion hasn't wavered at all.

I think we all wondered earlier when I first joined if we'd think the same way of MGS4. Doesn't seem that way. And I don't think that's a bad thing.

It's funny that there are still folks that can't get over it. Playing as Raiden sucks but 10 hours of cutscenes in MGS4 is oookay!
Yeah I know what you mean. And I can't stand Rose still, such an annoying *****.The only thing that bothers me now about MGS2, is Raiden's voice.
And they're not even interesting for the most part

How much is it, and what does it comes with? I was never on board with the butt-scratcher since day one, so I never researched.
The problem I have with MGS cutscenes is IF they're uninteresting, and long. MGS4 glorified this. Same with codec calls (read: every moment with Rose). MGS3 had some of these too but they were entertaining, at least. And they're not even interesting for the most part
Dylan once said the Raiden hate is misguided, and he's completely right. If Raiden played differently from Snake, like couldn't use weapons effectively, took more damage, etc., it would be understandable but at least their only difference is the way they walk and roll/cartwheel

She really did. I think Kojima only brought her in cause of Titanic or something. Silly Kojima and his movie rip offs I was worried she'd pop in MGR, thank God she didn't.She never offered anything to the series... she only brought his dumb kid into the mix, who had that ****** chill inducing scene with his mock sword moves...
$120 I think.
Forgot to mention this but Ryan, you need to come to conventions in my area. That **** is everywhere deprived me and my friends (some of whom actually share our MGS sentiments!) of sleep

For all its caveats about story, MGS3's only fell flat in codecs but even then, this was rare. Cutscenes were still pretty good, consistently. MGS2's cutscenes, I can't find much wrong cept for maybe the moments where Fortune is on screen, cause she hammed it up as the tragic heroine MGS1...well frankly, off the top of my head, a lot of the Meryl related cutscenes just bored me, literally where I wondered 'I'm getting nothing from this aren't I?', along with a part of an Otacon cutscene, I think the one about his namesake, which was saying something for me.MGS1 and 2 still had the most captivating dialogue of the series... ever codec convo can be a treat. Plus, there was many different conversations you could get by repeat calls. You get some of that in MGS3 too, but I didn't feel compelled to do so. MGS4 codec was worthless.
The only justification to the Raiden hate...dat assSnake's butt cheeks > Raiden's swishy walk

Totally. When MGS cutscenes fall flat...imo, that might be the worst part of the game not counting some gameplay sequences, like sniping in MGS1, MGS2's difficulty spike at the end (alebit it's actually still fun, and epic at least, just, that spike is crazy!), and so on.There's some scenes that felt flat in MGS1 sure... hell all the boss death scenes kinda feel forced in way... just to coax Snake along to the next section of the story. Although Wolf's was the only one that had any meaning to me.

They are. Solidus was the only part I wasn't so overwhelmed with though, to my surprise. I guess since I practiced with the sword a bit.Being stuck in prone was a pain in the ass.
MGS2 throws a lot of **** at you at the end. The Tengus, the RAYs and Solidus felt all so overwhelming the first time.
