I am not sure if I am in the miniority but I personally loved the long hollywood stylized cutscenes and codec conversations and don't understand why people complained since many were skippable or could be fast forwarded if not entirely optional. The only problem I see was when there were not those little moments that tell a story in game and even those existed to some degree.

As far as gameplay was concerned you could always have as much as you wanted in the old games whether it was guns blazing, sneaking, putting people in lockers or hiding in them, playboy mags, actually experimenting with all the weapons, using the camera, pullups for gods sake, bomb disposal, avoiding lasers and electrified floors, listening in on conversations, etc. Instead now we call in a chopper blow some **** up and air balloon the rest, obviously more to the game than that but its like girls who wear too much make up pretentious and shallow.

Memes that kill.

Looks like this is another case of Peace Walker being "fun", but except now, there's literally zero story behind this. The intro was awesome... but, then like others have said, the tedium sets in. Cassette tapes are NOT a suitable replacement for in-game cutscenes. What was Kojima thinking...

The game feels VERY incomplete, not just the story but the entire game. I'm in shock looking at the final 3 missions of the game right now.

How on earth did you do mission 40? Every time you pop out of cover for a split second its an insta death- ive managed to get a few hits in, but nowhere near winning the battle. Its probably the worst boss fight ive ever played. It makes dark souls look like kid friendly games.

... and i just beat that bit. _-_ Typical!

Cut scenes. Or just these long conversations in general. Yeah, I miss them. Long winded. Some of them nonsense. You're not in the minority.

Yea its almost impossible to beat her one on one sniping, I ended up calling in support bombarding her. You can’t be close to her at all though or the bombs will blow you up as well. I think doing it 3 times kills her. It actually turned out to be a very easy boss fight once I figured that out :lol

Nice :lol you actually did it one on one?

Yep, i figured out doing it the " cheap way " ( and i could get close with optic camo ). But i wanted to Tranq, like i did the first time incase it changed the story. But... i guess i wasted my time..!

Strange I see so much hate in this thread but the reviews I'm seeing on meta critic are calling this one of the greatest games ever made and a perfect send of to the series. I'm really tempted to buy the legacy collection on ps3 and play the series in chronological order.

I don't know how this can be one of the "greatest games ever made", when even as a Sandbox game, there's hardly anything to do aside from base missions, and capturing outposts. You can't even interact with NPCs (except in a very limited way on Mother Base), and there are no Bedouin villages to find and explore. It would be cool if Big Boss was actually making alliances with the locals who were combating the Soviets, but there's nothing of the sort.

I haven't gotten as far as others with my progression, but I can already see a lot of missed opportunities here. I'm sure many of the reviews were biased, in light of Kojima's unfair treatment by Konami. This is the last MGS game he will ever be involved with, and I think that resonated passionately with many who were following his ordeal.

You also don't play the series in chronological order. You need to play it in order of release.

Nobody here has beaten the game yet, so opinions might change. As of now, I think everyone can agree the game hardly picks up even after a dozen hours or so. Who knows, it might be brilliant mid point onward.

Pick it up, it has most of what you need. Is this your first time playing a Metal Gear game? Chronological order isn't the way to go, in fact, it's worse.

That would be awesome, truly would be neat to see Big Boss make alliances with the locals, it would fit really well. I actually thought we would get it, some trailers with prison cells made it seem like it.
Reviews were totally biased, and frankly, I find the 'greatest games ever made' thing a stretch. That Metal Gear label, it brings so much...also yeah, release order is better. Despite the prequels sorta explaining things, it's so much more harmful. I played in a weird order, MGS1, MGS 3 (on 3DS), MGS2, MGS 4, PW and Rising, but I still think it works.
might put it back on tonight. theres a 3 day weekend so i was thinking about playing it non stop, wellcqcaboutthat.
oh you

I actually own the first three on the original consoles but haven't played them in years. I never played number four but that is the last of the series based on the timeline right?

Yup that's correct. Have you played Peace Walker as well? Do avoid going chronologically, it's even more convoluted and dilutes the point of the older games. Don't worry too much about the timeline, as the games does well in explaining it to you when you get there. The proper order would be:

1. Metal Gear
2. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
3. MGS
4. MGS2
5. MGS3
6. Portable Ops
7. MGS4
8. Peace Walker
9. Ground Zeroes
10. MGSV
