No one can misspell like me :lecture

I am not really a fan of Jasksons, I like a handfull of his music, but have never actually owned any of his stuff. But you cant overlook what he accomlished in his life, both good and bad. He is as iconic as Coke, instantly recognizable.

I didnt know him personally, only what I saw in the media. So my personal feelings on what he may or may not have done are irrelevant.

He was an icon of music and hugely talented. He should be remember for what he contributed to music, which is historical fact.

:lecture :lecture I feel the same way. Though as a kid I was a HUGE fan...had lots of posters...had a book with all these MJ stickers I collected pasted all over the inside covers. Had a jewelry box where I would save every penny I had so I could go to his Thriller concert. Sadly, I was never able to save more than about 47 cents...so needless to say I never saw him in concert. I still have that little piece of paper that added up the little bits of change I had collected.

Re: Michael Jackson at 50

Considering all the negative press (deserved or not) regarding Michael Jackson during the last decade or so, his passing has effected me in a surprising way; I think I can attribute to an appreciation for the lasting impact he leaves in the music world (he's second only to Elvis after all), and how his iconism transcends his personal mis-steps.

RIP. :rip

I would have to say at the beginning of this day I was shocked at Farrah passing away, I was thinking man what an icon, what a hard life what a struggled life with cancer and family issues as well.

When I heard the Michael is dead news, I was thinking at first hand there's no way this has got to be a joke. I immediately started searching all the major sites for anything having to do with Michael's supposedly death. I found nothing besides TMZ which I never totally believe anyways. Anyways what can I say that hasn't been said all ready he was/is an icon, like the King Elvis... He will be missed and all I can remember as a fondest memory is being scared of the Thriller video when it first came out as I was a lil one. Even though I loved the beat back then I would still watch it and put myself through the scary video in order to enjoy the music. Of course there were several others and all mainstream earlier songs from his career but there's no one I can compare him to besides the King and there maybe never will be. These kind of people we should be proud of and blessed that they performed during our lifetime and sad that our children won't be able to experience what a true artist performing feels like.

Maybe the Hollywood life is just too much to handle and you end up going before your time, it always happens this way, well maybe not with Farrah because it was health induced but she had a rough go of it with her husband, boyfriend and son and if it were drugs with Michael, I hope that his family doesn't have to suffer with all the publicity and questioning (which I'm sure is happening anyways) just let him RIP, he deserves this much for bringing so many good memories into our lives.

RIP Michael and Farrah, their pain is no more, condolences to their families and friends.

Re: Michael Jackson at 50

Well I think John Lennon had more impact but I would put MJ at a close 3rd.

I prefer Lennon stylistically, but personally I think MJ edges him --- but that's neither here nor there I suppose. :monkey2

RIP MJ

Yup.

Lennon>Jackson

Both had huge transformative power and influence but Lennon actually grabbed those reins and tried to publicly direct it in a way Jackson or Presley never did.

Good post SKI

Thanks Krayt :monkey2

MAN DO U GUYS remember this, two of the greatest that will ever live in our lifetime...? MJ and MJ :rock :rock :rock

Not to detract from MJ, but The Beatles effected economies, philosophies, and governments, and all that on top of the album sales and cultural stuff. But I digress it really is neither here nor there. You are right.

I would assume the members of the Beatles all had a much better upbringing. Michael had to battle his demons throughout his entire career ............... his father was a borderline drill sergeant.

Just saying .......... it doesn't take anything away from the Beatles and their amazing accomplishments.

You would assume wrong. But it doesn't matter. I am surprised by how bumbed I am feeling.

Yeah, same here. I was a big MJ fan as a kid, but I think this sudden death is dredging up those same Lennon, Ledger, etc feelings.

I just think its sad that he died so unhappy. He was such a bright charismatic and sharp kid... its just sad the curves life throws at people.

I am really missing my childhood today. I am watching MTV coverage, and they just played Thriller in its entirety. I can remember being a fat white kid from the midwest, and hanging out with my friends in the summer listening to Thriller and trying to breakdance. Jackson even made an impression on us.

None of us knows what Jackson really went through as a child. It was obvious he had it rough, and fame only seemed to add to that in negative ways. I hope he is at peace tonight.

As I get older, and memories of my past fade away like this, it impacts me more and more. I don't know what I will feel on the day Harrison Ford or Mark Hamill dies. I am sure everyone here can think of someone famous they will be sad about when they pass. Try to think about that, and be respectfully silent if you didn't like the man.

I am still fat, still white and still in the midwest. My wife was laughing at me a couple of weeks ago because she caught me singing "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" in the shower. I will miss him.
