That last pic was indeed awesome. More so because there was the earlier pic of the 43 glaring down at the 3, as if a smack down was about to happen.

The Mark 3 actually looks better in this new batch of photos than in the previous ones. It's probably the lighting, but it has a richer red hue and looks less plasticky. Is that accurate at all (in this lighting scenario), or is that just how it looks on camera?

To the eye they don't look as similar, the flash is set pretty low and the white balance was just on auto. The earlier ones look closer to how it looks to the eye, at least how much the difference stands out.

I think the other thing that works against the Mk3, when you're any distance away the whole torso just blends together into a red blur. Yes the actual armor is more simple than the later ones but since there is barely any relief to as it is a solid piece all you see is the color with no shade, shadow, or variation.

I am torn on this Mark III. Completely. I want it, but at the same time don't like the harsh "V" of the chest and mid-section. Hate that there is no ab crunch. Have grown to like the Mark 43 so much that I just don't know
which way to turn.

I think the "harsh 'V'" shape is true to the way the armor is in the movie. Many people like the Mark IV in Iron Man 2 because it seemed to have fixed that and is still vary similar to the classic look of the Mark III. I agree the MkIV is an improvement in that regard but I miss some of the details of the MkIII like the two "screws" up along the collar bone on the later versions which is only on the MkIII. This is a detail which mirrors a characteristic of Iron Man's classic comic armor. This helps make the MKIII in the minds of many the best "classic" representation of the movies which also honors the classic comics. If I was just getting one, I would get the MKIII.

Of course this is all based on personal opinions, tastes, and perspective. Some people like the MKVI better and the MKVII is very popular along with the 42/43 model. If you love the 43 best, just embrace it and love it and don't worry about the MkIII.

Wow - great pics. I'm glad now I pre-ordered and paid in full for both 43 and III. Each has its merits. But I think I'm done with HT Iron Man with just those two.

Thanks for that. I had a small ounce of hope that it wasn't just a camera thing.

And it's unfortunate to hear about the blurring together too (even if it's accurate to the armor design). One thing ab crunch would've added is separate torso pieces so that there's some variation between the chest and abs.

What are the odds of a Mark VII diecast? That might suck me back in, especially if it had the moderate wear and tear that 43 has..

:dunno The only advantage of a diecast version would be improved articulation. If they do make one it would probably be years away since they are still using the MK7 and parts of it (Stealth, MK9, etc.) and looks like they improved the articulation on the 9

They could improve the articulation without diecast. Diecast is a marketing gimmick. A good one. But still a gimmick. They could update it in plastic and have the same improvements.

There's no added advantage, outside of weight, to diecast. The joints all have to have plastic anyway. I don't see the rush to update the mk7 since they still use the original tooling now.

Diecast could indeed be a marketing gimmick, it's not a major selling point for me and not why I picked up the MKIII. I picked up the MkIII because I didn't have the figure from the first run. So I do think one thing Diecast offers is an opportunity to re-run several figures that could appeal to both people who missed the first run of figures while also making it different from the first run in a way that may appeal to those who wish to pick up a second one. Diecast provides an excuse to double dip on the line and for those of us new to collecting Iron Man figures this is appreciated. I would love to see a MK6 and a MK7 in diecast because I missed the first run on these. It's not that I care that they are made in "diecast" but I don't mind this being a feature which separates it from the previous line and run.

I agree completely. Personally I like the diecast parts (the extra weight in the legs lowers the centre of gravity making the figures more stable when standing), though its by no means a must have feature for me. But the chance to get a figure I missed out on like MkIII is very much appreciated.

I have been lucky enough to get a MkVII from a fellow freak so diecast would not be enough of an incentive to double dip (though improved articulation *might* sway me). But if they list a diecast IV or VI I will be all over them like internet trolls on a Drax thread.
