Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

It's sucky, but I'm always cautious about getting caught up in these reports. I remember people pushing the panic button over the v1 having some of the paint rub off the rubber suit, my v1 is still in the condition it was in from day one, and I held it for all sorts of posing for photographs and nothing ever removed it. I also can't help thinking with this, could it be this first HK batch might be a tad rushed to try and have it into Toy Hunters before Christmas. Sometimes, it's not favorable to get something right away, especially where HT seems to be pushing lately to get some things out by certain dates that may or may not require speeding things up. That Batman, I don't know where it came from, but it could have been painted hastily and boxed up before it should have been to ship it out on time. Another reason I wait for Toys2 or Sideshow shipments, they sometimes go out a little later and I feel better about product quality there because those places aren't pushing any rush, when HT ships it ships.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I believe there is only minimal paint on certain areas (body plates) of v1... Seems paint app is applied to all the plates in ver 2.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

My point is, just because something happens to a few people, doesn't mean it's cause to assume it's going to happen with them all.

Yes, only certain spots on v1 have paint, but those spots, for some people wore away, and as much as I held my figure, they didn't for me. I will be cautious with Wolverine and this Batman because of this information, but I'm not going to start thinking HT screwed up with the product or fear my figures are going to fall apart. For years I've heard horror stories with HT's first Rambo and mine's still in the condition it came to me in.

Yes, is finicky mixing the right portions of paint and silicone (and others) so as it sticks properly the flexing material, which leads to certain batches with problems while others not...

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

And with projections being January/February for release, to come out mid/late December, I do wonder if the first batch was rushed. I think it's a little nuts to pay crazy money on eBay to get this right now when you could run into problems, or if you wait for later shipments, you might get a figure that never has issues because more time was given to those figures.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

That is disconcerting. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if this becomes a bigger issue.

The Appleseed figures had a similar problem in its early batches but HT claimed to have overcome that for the later batch.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Yeah, while it possibly might not be a wide spread issue that affects other shipments, it just as possibly could be. We don't know. Not something to pull the pitchforks out on just yet, but shouldn't be swept under the carpet either.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Just got him!

I'm worried to death about the paint! He's by no means fragile but he's done so well I feel like treating him like the Mona Lisa. I probably will rarely touch or pose the guy until I get a second one.

I'm not taking any pics because I have a crappy digital camera and won't even bother.

here's a little mini review however:

He is absolutely outstanding. As I'm sure many of you know, in-hand pics are ALWAYS misleading, regardless of how excellent/terrible a figure is. A picture can lie a thousand words whether that is making a decent-meh figure look great or a great figure look meh or decent.

For those of us that own DX Joker, we know that 70 percent of the pictures taken do not represent how he appears in-hand, 1/6th scale.

Costume: DX Batman's costume is just out of the park brilliant. The under-armor kevlar stands out beautifully and captures the accuracy of medicom's layering but i think without sacrificing the articulation and posing possibilities. I think the legs are all one piece, but the detailing and the lift from the armor and kevlar is so well done you can't tell.

Proportions are near pitch perfect. The articulation is stiff in the best possible sense. The mouth-sculpts are actually fantastic, some of the pictures and angles might lead you to think they're good but not quite fabulous. In hand its a completely different experience. 'Normal mouth' Batman doesn't have that odd 'grin' vibe to it that makes him look ever so slightly awkward in some pictures. Pedo-mouth batman is a bit odd, but still better in hand than you'd assume.

PERS-stiff initially, but after a rotation or two you'll see a huge difference from DX Joker. Smooth as butter, just like it appears in the demonstration video.

Presentation: Packaging is obviously outstanding, not quite as outstanding as the joker, but fantastic nontheless. Batarangs are a great touch, even though they're not plastic, I don't mind the foam. It's not as bad as you'd think. They LOOK excellent. Its not until you feel the weight of them and give em a slight squeeze that you'll notice they're cheap. Despite the cheapness, its very well done.

Accessories: Wow. just excellent. The belts fit SNUG and perfect. Once you get it in that right position, its not moving. Excellent fit. The entire belt is not magnetized, there are very strong magnets however laid into the plastic on the inside of the belt. The sticky bomb gun's design is perfect and accurate and has a believable weight for 1/6 scale because of the magnets housed inside. Doesn't exactly stick perfectly to the belt, but is absolutely satisfactory for display. the way the gun assembles and collapses is just beyond cool. great paint work as well.

The cape is the only thing holding him back but its still slightly better than V1, Everyone should get a replacement cape. Just go out to the fabric store and drop down a few bucks, jerry rig some hooks with paper clips and you're good to go. Just like V1, the cape gives the illusion that he's 'fatter' than he really is. The cape must hang naturally over his shoulders which it doesnt and it changes the entire aesthetic. a real, properly draping cape is necessary, otherwise you'll have to forego accuracy and tuck the cape under the shoulder pads like many of us did with V1 to achieve the proper look. This is how my DX is as of now and its fine until I get a replacement.

Sonar head is outstanding, works just great.

The magnet is very strong for the neck but not too strong. You can get a lot more poses and flexibility when it comes to moving the head around and because of the magnet the articulation is smooth and loose. Very unique.

So everyone hesitant should definitely pick this guy up. He's by far the most impressive figure I've ever owned and its not just the moment's hype!

EDIT: to address some concerns: giraffe neck is an illusion. no such thing in hand. serious. long ears? must be an illusion or just differences in production, mine look fine from where im sitting. any shorter than they are would make it look off.

Congrats and thanks for your review/impressions.

I'm going to put you on the hotseat: Which DX is better in your opinion, Batman or Joker?

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

To ED: The eyes are alright. they're big but not figure breaking big. might be a problem for some, but if youre fine with DX Joker you should be perfectly pleased with DX Bats. With DX Joker you can get that 'surprised' look which I actually like for certain poses, but you dont get that with DX bats simply because of the cowl, sculpt, etc.

To Plasmid: DX Batman by far, but theyre the same deal. With DX joker you get basically two figures in one but with DX Bats you get one amazing, fully stocked figure. Money-wise, theyre worth the same, but in terms of overall wow-factor, great tailoring is impressive for sure, but doing that complex suit justice in this scale is just brilliant.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Nice review mate.
That paint peel is really worrying from those pics, its ALOT of places especially considering its probably only a day or so old! That's definately a factory defect rather than a handling error, i'd send it back

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I still never understood how the V1's cape attached. The claps never laid flat with the body and stuck up. Also, it comes out if you cough too hard near it.
Not if you angle the clips and insert them properly. They actually disappear almost fully into the holes. Still a pain initially, though.

Nice review laudanum - makes the wait for mine even harder now! Hopefully won't be too long after Christmas when he arrives :D glad to hear the PERS operation is improved and I'm looking forward to seeing the neutral face expression in-hand even more now.
