Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Couldn't have said better myself. Obviosuly I was joking about owning 8 more spares however anything important and most likely to break, i get a spare of.

Was just about to call shenanigans cause the numbers just seem too far fetched but I guess that was your intention :lol
BTW instead of spares just make sure you move it enough when you get it to test it so if they do break in that "break-in" period you can get free replacement from HT but yeah looks like the DX02 design has been improved over DX01 significantly. Also the fact that the force is now redirected through the stick thing I would assume before the PERS can actually break your stick would slip

Well quit buying extra heads and buy a case.:lol

But yeah I agree. It's such a shame to not show off your prized possession if even only to yourself :'( I love how my figures stare me down every night I come home and watch TV :rotfl
If you have limited space at least get as large of a case as possible and rotate your collection :naughty

True, but display case are pretty damn expensive as well. As much a I want to display them, I can only retain perfection and the freshness by letting it stay in it's box. But I can display my cop joker, as I recently won a spare set of clothes and a cop head i'll never use. My cop joker clothes had a flaw, so I'll just display the flawed cop joker without a case and keep the spare cop head and uniform in the box.

If you have the space the Ikea Detolf is a very popular and affordable solution with lots of space to spare. But yes if are running out of space and you only have space for a single small case it tends to be a less cost effective.
I am not sure where you are located but I can make you a fairly affordable one depending on size etc (check out the links in my SIG) For a small one I think shipping within the North American continent is even very reasonable. PM me if you are interested

A detolf is $60, half the price of one figure to display upto 12 figures with a 360 degree range of viewing.

Personally I don't see why you'd keep these sort of figures in box, its not like they have big display windows to hang on your wall and show it off, if you spend almost $200 on something, you should display it proudly. If I spent that much on a collection I couldn't look at, I'd lose interest real quickly and probably end up selling them.

Plus I never saw something MIB sell for all that much more in 1/6, most people prefer to know what their buying is free of defects.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Well I hear from Eric that he has a customer that loves this stuff so much and has a room filled with boxes of it all piled up and just no room to display it... It's sad really cause really whats the point but maybe just waiting for the day when he gets to move to a bigger place and then to display it all :D
But even with no floor space the cheapest way is to get some floating shelves from Ikea as there should at least be some wall space :)
But keeping it boxed does keep things mint and dust free as well ;)

Salvation/Damnation, please read:

You know that feeling you get when someone confesses that they have done something terrible? Something unthinkable? Something that makes you loose your faith in all that is good and pure?

That sick feeling in your gut.:sick That twisting pain in your heart.:monkey4

That's what I feel right now as I read the last couple pages
. It is way beyond unthinkable to me that someone could buy an action figure of this caliber and leave it in the box.

If you had never opened it then I guess I can see how you could be thinking that you may sell it in the future as Mint and never opened... but if you are opening them to inspect then anyway it just makes no sense to me.

Guess how many cases I own...

But you better believe that I display as many figures as I can!

Bookshelves, CD towers, speakers, you name it! You can display them ANYWHERE!!!
If I had nowhere to display them I would still take them out, pose them and hold them in my hand!!!

Will they get dusty? Yes, but so what!

At least I am enjoying my figures. I can't tell you how much joy I get out of posing and staring at and photographing these figures! And that's what they were made for!

Maybe you aren't into all that. That's OK, most people aren't. But those people don't buy high-end action figures!!!

If you just want a collectible that is just going to sit in the box, collect "Precious Moments" figurines, or stamps!!!

As far as the dust problem goes: Just wrap some scotch tape around your finger in reverse and dab at the figure and... presto!!! No Dust!!! (And thats just one method.)

I have bought figures and statues on-line that were sold as mint but displayed. It doesn't make me hesitate in the least to buy them. I like knowing that they were loved in the way they were designed to be.

I once bought a sideshow figure that was covered in dust. I mean in the clothes, in the joints, everywhere! 1/2 hour later and it was dust free!!! It sits on my shelf as I type! If it gets dusty again, why I'll clean it!!!

If you can't tell, I have strong feelings about this. I have no problem with people keeping certain collectibles in the box for investment purposes, but it is a crime to do it with these.

Seriously, collect something other than action figures! Or better yet, if you can afford it, buy 2 of each figure. One to play with and one to keep in the box. To me that sounds like the ultimate solution for you, especially with all the money you spend on extra parts.
Just buy 2! :)

On another serious note (and I truly mean this with the best of intentions), if this behavior is coming from a place of mental illness (i.e. obsessive compulsive disorder) please get help. I personally deal with a different form of anxiety disorder and have had great success with cognitive behavioral therapy and medication. [This is not a joke.]

P.S. The suggestion to rotate your collection if dealing with limited space is a good one.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Maglor, if it makes you feel any better. Mine are boxed up as well. :D Even though I only own 19 figures and 2 vehicles. I wont be taking them out until I get my display built and stored behind glass doors.

"Will they get dusty? Yes, but so what!"

Dust = pure evil. I care. ;)

"One to play with and one to keep in the box."

Wish I was that loaded to do that.

I've lost count the amount of times I've read someone say it's a toy to play with then a day or week later somebody on here has a problem thats broken a blade, a wrist peg, an ankle, an elbow joint, a flap, a knee joint, ripped part of a suit (rubber), lost a button(s), snapped elastic and whipping out the glue and so on. The list is endless.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Maglor, if it makes you feel any better. Mine are boxed up as well.

Feel better... that's a joke right?

1) Why is dust pure evil? Why can't one simply clean off dust?

2) I have broken one or two things that I had to glue/replace, but this is a very very small price to pay for the joy of using these items they way they were designed to be used. In a way, a figure that has need a little TLC becomes more prized in my eyes.

3) Just to be clear, I can't afford to buy 2 of each either. That would be great though and Salvation/Damnation may have a little bit more cash to throw around than you or I.

4) Finally, please explain to me why you collect highly poseable action figures if you do not unbox them? Why not collect similar themed items that don't have moving parts? (i.e. statues and memorabilia)

Please Explain. I genuinely do not have the imagination to fathom it on my own!

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

vodoun, I just reread your post and took better note of this statement:

"I wont be taking them out until I get my display built and stored behind glass doors."

That actually does make me feel a little better. At least you have plans to enjoy you figures.

The points in my above post still stand however.

Again, why the fear of dust?

Stay young at heart all!!!

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Dust becomes greasy and sticky to rubber and can also sometimes stain/mark over a period of time dependent on the ambient temps and atmosphere they are in, or dry it out with such material or harden it as well as create a fusty smell. Not only that it just looks downright manky.

I'm a sucker for taking care of things to last for a prolonged life.

I definitely don't play with them. I treat them like statues/ornaments and for the price, too right. I'm not prepared to finger/mark them or take the chance. Sure it's nice to take the occasional photo of them because it's such a joy to admire such detail. I honestly never get sick of looking at them, even when boxed up. I even strip out any wire ties/plastic arm/leg coverings so it doesn't mark/stick to any rubber parts for long term. Plus it's really silly for me to be playing with action figures. I just like to admire them. Keeping photos on your computer with these things is not the same when you can glance over and see them with your own eyes and admire. As Voorhees once said, he too wanted these as if they just stepped out of the film for his display. Purely accurately detailed.

As for why I collect, well I'm really new to this hobby. One day summer 08 I was looking for The Dark Knight film images and just happen to come across this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/eddiewong/2598381850/in/set-72157605783728379/

I had never seen such detail before and wondered what they were, where I could buy them even though not knowing where and how much. I searched and searched and found nothing only to eventually find out they were never released, yet. Then I thought it was going to be complicated to also find out they were Hong Kong only. I thought that was me screwed and had to do without.

I thought how cool they would be to have something like these displayed in a room. It's easy to have something and then display it at a later date than have a display to then buy something like these to find they are then discontinued/sold out/or extremely rare. Or pay through the roof for one because one waited far too long.

I have had them all unboxed/examined and if I did have them out it was for only a few hours to admire. Then packed away so nothing was spilled/knocked or dropped off so no damage will happen to them until I get my display built. Then they will be displayed as if it was some sort of shop/museum type of thing so they will remain in mint condition with no sunlight/sun rays no ridiculous dry air but relatively cool conditions but not damp or cold so they can last a long time behind glass doors.

Sound crazy yet? :D

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I don't keep em in the box all the time, I do let out occasionally for a few hours, then box em in when i feel my space is crowded. But i've never got the chance to display them for show. And lastly never have I sold a figure that I bought for a high price, will never think of doing so no matter what

I have never experienced any permanent damage to any of my 1/6 scale figures because of dust, and I have had some of them on display for upwards of 10 years.

Yes I have seen them get "manky" [I guess:confused:], but this is an easy fix, and they are good as new.

I never get sick of looking at my figures either, but No figure in the box will ever look as great as one that is well posed.

You say
"it's really silly for me to be playing with action figures."
Why is that?

If anyone thinks they are 'too old to play with action figures', that is a real shame.

Let that never happen to any true "freak"!

To be honest, I don't "play" with my action figures either. When I was 7 years old I might have taken my Superman and Martian Manhunter into the bathtub, but now my playing consists of this:

1) The unboxing ritual. What a joy this is, examining the packaging then carefully opening all the taps and ties so as not to damage anything. Then finally taking out the figure and it's accessories.

2) The initial pose. I often find a pose that I like and stick with it for months.

3) Tweak/futz! In the days (sometimes weeks) following the unboxing and initial pose, I tweak and futz the figure into perfection, making slight adjustments to the pose, thinking: 'if this were a real person holding a gun would there elbow really look like that, or maybe it would be a little higher?' 'Hmmm that tie looks a little loose, time to get the tweezers and clean it up!'

4) Staring at the figure. After days of tweaking the figure has transformed from a toy (or even a collectible) into a little person standing on my shelf. This is the moment I crave, and I pity those who never find it. In the weeks that follow, I will often visit the figure on the shelf and just take it in. I'll frequently find myself walking into the room I display them in while I am brushing my teeth! Which is probably a good thing as it gets those pearly whites whiter!)

5) Photograph those bad boys!

6) [This last step may be months or even years later.] Repose the figure! Find a new perfect pose! And at this point you can repeat steps 2-5! Its like getting a new figure! And step 6 can be repeated indefinatly as long as you have a good imagination and the figure lends itself to your creativity. Thankfully Hot Toys and Sideshow have given us great base bodies that have so many posing possibilities!

So I guess what I call playing is really "admiring", I just like to admire the hell out of them!!!

Although I think you could be enjoying your figures right now, I have no problem with this, I just hope it happens for you soon!

Get yourself one of those cheap Ikea deals!

A few hours? Seriously?

If you will never be selling them, then what are you afraid of?

Surely you have the space to display 1 or 2 at a time! Leave them out and enjoy those 2 for a week or two, maybe longer! Then rotate them out with another 1 or 2, etc, etc.

Breaking them or the fabrics collecting dust. I will display them eventually as long as i have a case. You guys are forgetting that. The only figure I can leave out all the time without a case is the cop joker, that is because I have a Perfect SPARE one.
