Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

[QUOTE=axecutioner18;4966298]Finally I can join this club, I was never much of a Superman fan (as the character), but Christopher Reeve meant Superman to me, it was just the fact that in all live action renditions of Superheroes, Christopher Reeve somehow looked like the living embodiment that made him so special..

Anyway I wasnt very happy with HT's sculpt, it seemed too much like a hybrid of an idealized Reeve and comic book Superman as drawn by John Byrne.

Used Eric Sosa's masterful sculpt which has a much better likeness to Reeve with the amazing Nathan Eakins (SilentSurfer) paint to match...

:lecture

I've combined the T2 grail Tamiya Harley Davidson with a figure using the NECA T2 head (as opposed to the HT). I have no doubt many consider that ridiculous.
RRRRRRRRRRidiculous.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Sosa's version is not perfect... but HT is too Superman NOT Reeve enough for me... Honestly, the closest Reeve likeness Ive seen in a sculpt is the 1:4 version by Arnie Kim.

Have to agree that hot toys sculpt is not christopher reeves and eric sosa's is closer.
If eric were to revisit this and maybe thin out the jaw, I think it would be very very close, if not spot on.

I'm suprised with digital sculpting, that someone has not made a perfect likeness as with some of the other sculpts.
There would definately be a big market and a healthy profit for someone to lay out the costs for 3d printing etc.
If I had the money and time I would be all over this.

Also about the jaw thing, from the sculpt in hand, the jaw is not fat or thick at all.. somehow a front pic tends to accentuate that. its the same thing with the HT Reeve sculpt :lol
Plus people forget how much his jaw features actually were quite thick.

The room for improvement that Sosa has is on the chin and the eyebrow area and actually the nose

would love to see EB do a 1/4 CR Superman :rock

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I'm suprised HT hasn't followed up and done any more with this. At the very least they could have done a CR Clark Kent.

If they think an Agent Coulson is going to sell then a CR Clark Kent is a no brainer.

You would think but all the Avengers hype and Coulson fad-dom might actually put him ahead of Clark Kent from a 1978 film as far as sales right now. A pity.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

This shot almost looks like the real actor. We miss you Chris! :(
Thanks man! Taking him out and posing him some made me fall in love with it all over again. The sculpt is just fantastic!
That just looks weird to me.

No offence to the sculptor and painter, but I personally prefer the HT sculpt and colouring.

The HT sculpt would also be my preferance. I'm not averse to liking a custom or other company's sculpt over the HT version but in this case I think HT is better.

^^^i agree with you guys. Sosa is a fantastic sculptor no doub about it. But his Reeve looks less like the real deal to me and more like a cartoon version. HT version is my Reeve of choice :)

darren carnall :) yeah its been a long wait. but well worth it!

Man you lucky bastard! I absolutely love Darren and his work. Incredibly nice guy and amazingly talented painter and sculptor. Would've never gotten into customs if it was for his guidance. Showed me the ropes and led me to spending more many than I should be on collectibles by making customs :lol

It's a nice sculpt, but the HT sculpt beats it by leaps and bounds. I don't think it's even close.

for the record i didnt post the statement above the pick. thats from axe :) i am happy with the hot toys sculpt. but i also like the sosas. but yeah, to each their own

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

The Sosa sculpt has always looked to me as if he sculpted the perfect likeness and then dropped it. :lecture

Agreed, I couldn't tell if they were being serious or not. Sosa's "masterful sculpt" :rotfl.

Me too. For some reason, it kinda reminds me of the evil Superman in Superman 3. :dunno
