Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I really like the stern expression on the Sosa sculpt.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

The Sosa sculpt looks caricatural.
I can see what he was going for but with all due respect to his talent, he failed.
The HT sculpt is as good as I've seen in 1/6 scale.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

YOU LUCKY LUCKY! :D after I got this, I wish I had got that smiling/smirk one too... who is painting yours?

:lecture

Also about the jaw thing, from the sculpt in hand, the jaw is not fat or thick at all.. somehow a front pic tends to accentuate that. its the same thing with the HT Reeve sculpt :lol
Plus people forget how much his jaw features actually were quite thick.

The room for improvement that Sosa has is on the chin and the eyebrow area and actually the nose

You might be right, I'm not a sculptor so am just going on my initial reaction to what looked "off"
I think I will get the smiling sculpt whether I use it or the hot toys sculpt for my evil supes bash I'm still not decided till I have it painted.

As long as you're happy with it, that's what matters. Everyone see's things differently. There's Reeve in both, I just prefer HT's.
Agreed that is the main point.
Everyone has their opinion as long as they respect everyone does not have to agree then it's all good.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

Finally I can join this club, I was never much of a Superman fan (as the character), but Christopher Reeve meant Superman to me, it was just the fact that in all live action renditions of Superheroes, Christopher Reeve somehow looked like the living embodiment that made him so special..

Anyway I wasnt very happy with HT's sculpt, it seemed too much like a hybrid of an idealized Reeve and comic book Superman as drawn by John Byrne.

Used Eric Sosa's masterful sculpt which has a much better likeness to Reeve with the amazing Nathan Eakins (SilentSurfer) paint to match...

HT's is much better, looks like crap to me.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

With that expression it looks like he's laying a wicked kryptonian fart...No disrespect :slap

This. While I can certainly see Reeve attributes in the sculpt, I just can't escape from thinking the above when I look at it. Whatever expression he was going for just doesn't translate well to a figure.

it look like superman just went thru plastic surgery :(

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

:lol @ all the Sosa nuthuggers praising his poofaced sculpt over HT's better likeness. Even the smirking Evil (drunk) face isn't that good. "IZ AWZUM BCUZ IZ CUZTUM! :drool" :lol

just because we have different taste doesnt mean you have to name call. once again you have nothing better to say than the usual bull.

Not hugging any nuts, just like the sculpt and it aint because its custom.:cuckoo:

It ain't perfect, neither is the hot toys one, sorry but don't matter how many pics I see of it and beleive me I have looked at alot, well lit dramatically lit etc, it does not ring true.
If hot toys had of got it right, I would have no problems with it at all.
I have 2 of the hot toys sculpts and I do like them but want a perfect superman sculpt and am still looking.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I loved the Sosa sculpt at first - especially the frowny Superman III version and the unfinished flying pose project but I've yet to see one of his painted sculpts that doesn't look exactly like Christopher Dennis, the Superman impersonator on Hollywood Blvd...

I had to google that.

He looks like Bill Nye the Science Guy

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

:lol I cant but help but be amused at the flak a sculpt I really like get, I wouldnt have spent the money I did on it, if I didnt think the HT wasnt good enough for Reeve... a lot of you guys see a lot of Reeve in the HT sculpt, I dont... thats about it. I would have been happy if Arnie's 1:4 Reeve was what we got in 1:6. I am happy with the Sosa sculpt, and thats all that matters to me, no custom elitism here... nor any attempt to convince those happy with the stock HT sculpt.

Also as far as I know the sculpt was based of this moment/scene...

So Im quite happy with the results... :)

Come on now that is a little too harsh on both counts:)

Yea im sorry...this looks goofy...he looks like someone dropped a large hunk of Kryptonite on his big toe and he is trying to hold in the pain. The HT sculpt is leaps and bounds better...and doesnt look like he has 4 coats of makeup cover on.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

I used to think it was pretty damn good. But it doesn't look natural like HT.

Well glad to hear it. Its win/win for both sides really even if one side doesn't quite understand what the other is or isn't seeing.

Ophthalmology does miracles nowadays, you may want to give it a try.
Beyond that, as long as you're happy... :cuckoo:

See, I too can make derogatory/baiting comments and use smilies to 'pass them off' as jokes. Its only that your ethics... no Id rather blame the declining board decorum as the reason to the tone of your posts...

Ophthalmology might work for me to jump into the majority bandwagon (but I doubt it... as I think it has more to do with my independent perception and choices, than anything ocular), but maybe you need your parents all over again to teach you some basic courtesy that you missed out while you were in your infancy... or a counselor, or maybe even a well educated child could set an example for you...
