Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I see what you mean man, but I have more faith in them because supposedly we have seen actual retail pieces; or so I interpreted it.

I dont know.....I know the sculpt is great, but I just dont want to fork down 80 bucks for something that might look poor.

I'll wait for the in hand pics. If there's little problems within the sets, then i'll buy one. Easily. But if we all get googly eyes, bad, bland paint apps (like the Classic Predators) and breakage....then uh...yeah. :monkey4

If that happens my face will look like your sig's...

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

HOT TOYS - apparently they don't make toys, NECA does? is that what I'm supposed to get out of that?

If you're seriously asking which figure looks more like the predator in the 1st movie, the NECA 18" is the clear winner. Though they are not really in the same category, the NECA is more a basically articulated statue, whereas the HOT TOYS is more of an expensive, highly articulated collectible doll with lots of accessories. They're both very cool, and I'm not knocking the HT, but if you think it looks more accurate than the NECA product we're discussing in this thread, then I'm gonna have to imply that it is you who may be smokin da craaack.

My NECA stuff is packaged in containers meant to be thrown away once opened, painted pretty mediocre, and quite durable, often with limbs stuck from the paint in the joints. You describe Hot Toys very well, but of the two, I'd agree that NECA has traditionally made stuff you'd be more likely to play with due to durability and overall lower collectibility. And, maybe that's NECA's bag. I take issue with comments on NECA's comparison to Hot Toys because I don't believe they have the same end goal in mind. Hot Toys is making show pieces whose goal is to sit around and be looked at. NECA will take some abuse, and is intended for those who like to pick up and goof around with the figure, combining durability with displayability and accomplishing that somewhere in the middle. And, it has the price point to match what you get. The paint job isn't the best, but I could throw my alien to the dog and I doubt the paint would scratch that easy unless I let her go at it. If the dog knocks over my Mark IV IM, that puppy could take damage.

If we're comparing quality, it's silly to not admit Hot Toys wins in that category. That's what they do. You don't compare a Viper to a Ford Focus, you compare it to other sports cars. Just the same, if you judge that Viper on daily tasks like taking the kids to soccer practices, the Focus is going to put it in its place. So, people here argue their points back and forth, and are pretty much all right because they're comparing the unique strengths of two completely different product lines that exist for completely different reasons.

That said, this particular figure may be NECA's first real foray into Hot Toy's back yard. So, we may yet be able to have commonality to compare the two by soon.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Plus its not like this is all just coming from out & out NECA fanboys - sure we've had one or two - but theres also been enthusiastic HT collectors feeling the same way about this NECA sculpt.

Man let's hope it's justified.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Maybe not HT's backyard, but certainly clearning their name a little bit. More respect for the company and some higher-end product that actually looks higher-end (unlike their V statue, shudder). Those sculpts are phenomenal and the only thing holding them back in many collectors' eyes is the poor QC and shoddy paint apps.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I ordered all three versions. I couldn't help myself. I'm just glad that Hot Toys stays in the 1:6 arena, could you imagine the price HT would charge on a 1:4 scale figure? I don't even want to think about it.

Just quoting this post as its more convenient but I'm referring to your previous post. I disagree with just one point - that Necas figures are to be played with and are durable. Durable they aint! Not when they very often arrive broken or break as soon as you try to move their arms or legs - that makes a pretty $h!t 'play' toy if you ask me! This is something that really needs to be addressed on their figures.

What you say is quite true but for an 18" figure I don't think people are going to "play" with them. I mean who pays $70 and starts playing with the damn thing...I wouldn't let my future kids touch anything at that price unless it was meant to be played for i.e. a kids bike. I don't think the 18" version figure has been made to play for. If you twist all the cut joints in their right places its makes a pose. This ones meant to be posed and not played with. Thats my opinion anyways. How many people here are going to "play" with their 18" Predator, that they spent $70 on. The points of articulation should be for poseability purposes, thats why they don't move as much as the 6/7" ones because their made for playing and not posing and thats also one of the reasons the 18" one looks better sculpt wise because they don't need to think of how the leg can turn 360 degrees and bend 90 degrees which compromises the look, they think about how good is it going to look/hiding joints rather than how much can it turn and bend...

I'm talking more about previous NECA than this Predator figure, when I say play with. I'm hoping, this figure is their foray into the higher-end market. They've got the sculpt, so we've just got to wait to see in hand pics.

Posing is playing.

But doesn't the large predator and the small one share the same articulation?

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Been away for a while, so that new pic is a wonderful surprise!
Great job by the folks at NECA.
My only nitpick is the way the netting ends above the knees and elbow, that does take a bit away from the overall look, but I don't see how they could've done it otherwise.
Brilliant figure at any rate!
Can't wait to have mine in hand.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I dunno, I'd say there is a pretty considerable differance between futzing or posing and "playing".

Sitting, looking at a pic and getting frustrated trying to tuck a pant leg into a boot, and pretending they are talking to each other with little voices your doing while you move them all around are two differant things.

To me, this is playing :
