Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

just addressing this one little line.

The writer was homosexual, correct?

so, it stands to reason that he's going to put a bit of himself into his work.

.......

.......

people are people, and who they are, effects what they do. it's best just to accept people's uniqueness, so long as it doesn't affect you directly.

SOOOOOOOO Disagree here. If you think RTD's material is solely a reflection of who he is and not a reflection of his agenda, I got a bridge to sell you.

The argument can be made that RTD has a right to his artistic vision. People also have a right to be offput or to find it distracting.

A gay person certainly can be offended at a portrayal of a straight relationship on tv just as a straight person might be offended by a homosexual one if they choose.

But the fact is that one of those positions is in the majority and the other is in the minority. RTD trying to portray the minority position with the frequency of a majority position is hardly subtle, so you have to understand why some may be offended.

I'm never offended by the scenes themselves, what I get offended at is the blatancy of the agenda and the frequency of being beat over the head with it.

That said, that's sorta old news and it has not occurred since RTD left.

Also, will add obviously the show was fine overall, I kept watching, and love the show. Even like Captain Jack. I just can't say that there weren't the occassional eye rolling when the agendas were flashed in bright neon.

This gay agenda stuff is rubbish. If the show has a message it's 'live and let live'. Sure, there was a (mostly) gay character in S1 but beyond that we've had only a few references to homosexuality, depicting it as a normal, healthy part of human sexuality - exactly the way the show depicts heterosexual relationships. If that's 'the gay agenda' then it's not much of an agenda, it just reflects society. There was never a storyline in which the Doctor or any other character championed sexual experimentation!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

In all of Doctor Who, there was only one story that annoyed me with it's preachiness and it was nothing from the new series.

Invasion of the Dinosaurs. :lecture

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The show that RTD really used to sell his agenda was the "Who" spinoff "Torchwood," where the main character is flamboyantly gay. It was still good though, even if one or two scenes had me squirming a bit:horror!

Weeeell... there was Captain Jack! ;)

Otherwise, I agree 100%!

I love Captain Jack, but thought the episode from Torchwood where you find out how he got his name was too much.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

There's a lot about Torchwood that I thought was 'too much'.

Honestly, I didn't really care for the first 2 seasons at all. Jack was nothing like the character he was on Doctor Who. He was way too serious. Having said that, I thought Season 3 (Children of Earth) was absolutely edge of your seat badass, and I would have been happy had I only seen that season. I haven't seen the North American season yet. Worth watching?

I thought it was good. The gay *** was hard to sit through for me though. :lol

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I thought Miracle Day was good but seemed like they cancelled 1/4 of the season and tried to fill the ending into 2 episodes instead of 4.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Funny, I have the opposite view. I think the main problem with Miracle Day is that it just felt too padded out, it felt like a five episode story dragged out over ten episodes. If they had tightened it up and told it over less episodes then I think it could have worked much better, and stood well alongside the previous Children of Earth series.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Me 2.
CoE was well paced, and delivered over 5 days was a great idea. MD was over long, padded like a duvet and ultimately a bit of a let down. Having the other dude come back from the dead was like.. no. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Children of Earth was brilliant!

Wow, we've devolved into Torchwood discussion. Time for another teaser pic or something.

Better that than the last two discussion subjects... :p

*eta* Couldn't find a gif from MD.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Does anyone else think Children of Earth was more of a horror story than a science fiction story? It might just be some personal buttons of mine, but the Frobisher element in particular was so horrifying I've never been able to rewatch the series even though I know it is the best thing RTD ever did.

Some of the best Tom Baker Who Episodes were kinda Gothic Horror...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Stone Cold Steve Austin signed about 250.000 pictures for the limited edition for WWE '13 and he didn't do any half assed.

I'm fine with the signature, but it's a huge difference with the signed picture I have.

Very late and very OT, but my son just got one of those with his PS3 game yesterday!
