Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The new Ood are great, with Ood Sigma looking the coolest:

The Donna Noble sculpt is easily the best companion sculpt to date. Never thought I'd own a Catherine Tate action figure, but for what it is, it's spot on.

The only slightly disappointing one is the Pyrovile Priestess. It doesn't do anything at all except stand there looking dull. The detail on the skull is ok I suppose, otherwise this is a bottom of the toy box figure:

Anyway, I'm enjoying having some genuinely new Dr Who figures to muck about with. Hopefully I'll have a whole load of Classic Series figures to show you on Wednesday!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing... I love that the sontarans have articulated ankles! :lol

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

It just makes them have a much better stance and you can more easily adjust them to compensate for any off-centre poses you might want to try. I hope they do this with more of the figures.

Also, loads of updates on Dr Who Toys!

Coming soon:

12" scale radio controlled Davros! And 5" & 12" radio controlled Supreme Dalek!

Tardis with "Bad Wolf" graffiti. Nice cash-in guys!

New Torchwood figures:

And no pics, but they've announced the inevitable Adipose plush.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Great pics, the new look Sontarans were IMO the single best thing about series 4 and the figures look brilliant, here's hoping a Classic Sontaran or two make an appearance before too long.
The new types of Ood were the other thing I really liked about the last TV series and Character Options have done a great job with those as well.
Most suprising is that the quality of the sculpt on the Donna figure as aside from the newest Martha the female sculpts in the line have been so far been mediocre or downright dodgy,I wish the Sarah Jane sculpt had turned out as nice.
The Pyrovile Priestess looks OK but I hated the episode and now there's a Classic line I won't be buying all the Nu-Who figures so it's an easy pass.
It's nice to hear that the hat wearing sculpt on the 4th Doctor looks as good in person as being my favorite Doctor it's the Classic figure I'm most looking forward to.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

That looks incredible!

bcm77, hopefully I'll have some detailed shots of 4 for you on Wednesday, once I get my grubby paws on him!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The current R/C Daleks aren't true 1/6 scale -- I wonder if "12 inch R/c Davros" will be in scale with them or with the 1/6 figures???

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Depends on the retailer. I usually buy from www.WhoNA.com as they have the best selection and the normal, non popular figures run about $10.99. However some things, like the Screaming Angels, are running between $10.99 and $15.99

That's sickening. I had to pay £9.99 each for these new figures. That's $20.

Of course, you can pick up older figures for a lot less, but who wants to wait? Not me!

Awesome, with any luck Play.com and Forbidden Planet will get their stock earlier than is listed on their websites so I won't have too long to wait for mine.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'm meeting someone for lunch near that shop in a minute, so I'll pop in just in case he's got them early. I think there will be fierce competition for them though - they often have signings and so on (Tom Baker was there a couple of weeks ago), so it's kind of a mecca for Who fans.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Alas, nothing in yet. I'll call the store tomorrow and ask if they're in.

Fingers crossed!
Have you seen any series 4 figures in any other stores DSD?
Both Argos stores in my area haven't had any stock yet and neither have Woolworths or the various supermarkets.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I haven't looked yet, to be honest. Usually Asda or Woolworths will get them in at some point, and usually cheaper than elsewhere, but I haven't had a chance to check lately. What usually happens is that I'll buy everything at inflated prices, for fear that they'll sell out, only to see them cheaper in a high street store. Although one time I did get all the re-done figures like Ecclestone with Auton bits and bobs, and glow in the dark Gelth in a buy one get one free in Woolies.

The trouble is, if you don't nab figures when you see them, there's always a chance you might miss out. Character Options' distribution is weird, some figures just seem impossible to find. I've only just got the Sarah Jane & K9 pack, and that was on eBay. Can't find the Martha + Toclafane or new version of Captain Jack anywhere! :(

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Do you know they ve now sculpted ALL the Doctors from William Hartnell onwards now, even though they ca nt release pictures yet due to approvals and perhaps a progression to see how sales do.Unfortunately no pictures exist yet before you start searching! This information comes from the Outpost Gallifrey forums courtesy of Dustys counterpart in CO Missistant(and nowhere near as attractive either!)

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

he he.... unless you think bearded guy named Ed who like Irish Jedi are attractive.:lol

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

That's good news about the other Doctor sculpts. I wonder if they'll do Richard Hurndall? :lol

I was just looking at some of the photos I've taken (due to space restrictions I can't display all my figures), and I realised that the new Ood faces have a lot more detail in them.

Here's the old Ood:

And here's the new one, which has a lot more facial detail, don't you think?

OodSigma-1.jpg

Sorry the photo isn't as sharp.

I think it's good that Character are improving their work as they go along. That said, I do think they miss the odd trick. Surely a "rabid" interchangeable Ood head wouldn't have been too big an ask? I mean, they're giving us a choice of two sculpts for Tom Baker!

Very true. If you like I can have a look for the new Captain Jack and Martha next time I'm at my local TRU (should be sometime this week) as they had quite a few of the 1-2-3 wave last time I went figure hunting.

Minimodel,
Thanks for posting the news about the other 3 Doctors.
For the 1st Doctor Character Options should make an alternate head with Richard Hurndall's likeness then you could choose between the original or Five Doctors version of the character. Black & white variants of Doctors 1 and 2 would also be cool to reflect how they appeared to TV viewers.

If you're going anyway that would be great, but don't put yourself out specially.
