You should watch just parts 1 & 2 though, there is no need for 3 to even exist. Every single actor in the first 2 parts were legendary ............ Brando, Pacino, Deniro (part 2), Duvall, Caan.

If you check the majority of "all time" lists you always see Godfather on the in the top 5.

Godfather virgins, DEFINATELY get 1 and two as a pair, and watch them consecutively. You won't regret it, some of, if not THE finest storytelling ever put onto film. Don't even bother with 3 though, i've still not even watched it all. Just can't sit through it.......terrible. Damn the first two are incredible though, Al Pacino is my main man I almost feel ashamed saying, i only saw them for the first time myself, last year, and i am nearly 22, an aspiring actor, and a huge movie buff..............................yeah.....................sometimes my priorities aren't really right

Yeah I went into the Godfather thinking it would blow cause it's loved by critics and I usually find films like "A beautiful Mind" and that crap boring. I was wrong. The Godfather is the real deal. Great acting. Great story.

My 2nd fav gangster movie is Narc. Anyone who hasn't seen this movie must. It is incredible. It's nitty gritty crime movie. It feels real and the acting is amazing. I love this movie

Godfather 1 and 2 are incredible. Very sad too IMO. Won't say why. If part 3 didnt have Sofia Coppolla in it, it would have been much better.

I agree and would skip 3. Coppola himself said in the commentary that 3 was made due to the success of the first two and not because there was a story to tell.

Well the only part I found interesting or appealing was how he ended up dying alone. Michael had become so arrogant and stubborn over the years that he eventually drove everyone away from him that he ended up alone in the end. Very intersting imo but the the film wasn't neccessary imo.

GF 3 had its merits but not on the same level as 1 & 2...like comparing Star Wars episodes 4 & 5 to episode 1 The Phantom Menace. Not bad, but not nearly as epic or groundbreaking with parts of the story seeming, as mentioned, very unneccesary.

narc is a corrupt cop drama. it's another subgenre altogether, not at all a gangster film. films like narc are made more often nowadays(training day, pride & glory, street kings, we own the night, etc), almost replacing the gangster films it seems as the current hot new trend of the crime genre.

for gangsters, look to the past. here are the best of the best:

and i'm sure i miss a few black and white films as well.
