Clowns!

Anyone see Mark Cuban on Jay Leno ? Where he said after the Mavs won the Championship...he bought a $100,000 bottle of champagne.

"Ace of Spades" I think it was called. Too me nothing says stupid more than spending $100,000 on something you will piss out later.

These guys are geniuses...

and shouldnt the tat read "Starley Cup Champiars"?

Did the Leafs pull a prank and wear Jets uniforms tonight? :)

lol

Nope, the Pens are just that good. There is a reason they are 12-0-1 in their last 13 games and are literally a few points away from 1st overall in the standings. This team is the best team in all of hockey. The Bruins won a Cup last season, great. But this is this year and this Pens team excites me like no other. At full health I stand put in my thoughts I had since Day 1 of this season, they are the team to beat.

Caps had runs like that and it didn't mean much in the playoffs. I almost hate seeing a team that "hot" before the playoffs because once the cold streak hits it could mean a short run.

Shame on them guys for partying. If i won the cup, i'd stay at home with a cup of tea.

As for the Pens, they've been "hot" all season. And they didn't even have Sid. So don't give me that "they'll cool off in the playoffs" BS.

There is a difference in being a very good team all year and going 12-0-1......At some point you'll hit a cool streak. Not saying they will all of a sudden lose 4 in a row in the playoffs, but they could get more of a series than they want in the 1st round IF they cool off in those last 2-3 games heading in.

Sure is.

I wish Crosby played for any other team but P____sburg. The league would be much better off.

I remember telling friends before the draft that is was rigged and that the chance Crosby would be a Pen was 100%.

Get ____ing over it, same with you Kit.

1. We don't know if the Draft was rigged for certain. Not saying it wasn't, but we are assuming at this point. We know what they say when you assume. The Pens team was an awful last place finisher so no surprise that they would get him.

It's not like they finished 22nd overall in the standings.

2. Also, move on! Some people seem to be stuck in the past. That was 2005. It's late March of 2012 since I last checked the calendar. There has been only one Pens Cup Championship. The league plays no favorites. The only reason the Pens get so much coverage is because they are good, and they are good because they play an amazing system implemented by the top coach (according to the Jack Adams) in Dan Blysma. They finished two points out from being tops in the East last season with 41 games of Crosby and 43 games of Malkin. Not to mention they were without 4 of their top 9 for a good stretch of the season, yet still found ways to stay on top of the standings. They put up two huge winning streaks this season without Letang for portions of the season and no Crosby for 60 games of the season. They are a good team and thus discussion follows that success. They are the top goal scoring team and the hottest team in 2012. Facts. People will discuss that because people love focusing on either great failure (Leafs of late) or great success (like the Pens). People love discussing the extremes.

If you don't like the Pens discussion don't come in the thread because there are about 4 Pens fans in this thread alone that post on a regular basis. The team is thriving and looking like the odds on favorite to go all the way this season, baring any injuries to their top players.

Whining about it won't change those facts. It just takes away from the quality discussion of this thread.

End of rant. :lecture

Comparing the Caps to the Pens is like comparing apples to oranges. The history of their playoff successes has told us this. Another huge difference is the Pens have the best two centermen in the league going for them. The strength of a forward line starts from your center. He is the first to touch the puck (well, if he wins the face off battle). He is the link between his wingers. They are the nucleus of the three forwards. The root. The Caps don't possess the strength that the Pens have down the middle. No team does. When Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are hungry (like they are now), much like they were in 2009 and go-go-go, they are unstoppable. And thus why the discussion pertaining to that team *cough* 9 points between those two last game will do that... *cough* Teams have a real hard time shutting down two of the world's best centermen when they are on their games. The Wings had an easier time handling the Pens in 2008 because Malkin was a no show in the Final that year. The following season he was the best player in the 2009 Cup Final, and Crosby was no slouch in that regard. Having both of them going with their lines made it hard for Detroit's top defensive lines to shut down. Sid's line was taken down, but it exposed the Wings defence to the Malkin line. Pittsburgh would experience a Stanley Cup hangover the following Spring. 13 rounds of playoff hockey in 4 years will drain any team. Just like in the last two rounds of 2008, Malkin was a no-show. Again, both of the big superstars need to be on for that to work.

This is a different case scenario than Washington, because they never had gone the distance. The Pens have been to the show twice, and the one year they came out Stanley Cup winners. So we know what this team can do when both of their young centermen are on their A-game. This team is arguably better than that 2009 Cup team. Malkin has been the best he's been. Crosby has been unreal the past two seasons (save the injuries), and guys like Jordan Staal (who is the team's No. 3 centerman, and could be a 1st line C on some teams), have improved their overall games as has Kris Letang. Now we actually have a great complimentary top tier winger in James Neal (who's top 9 in NHL scoring), depth guys producing lately in Chris Kunitz, Pascal Dupuis, and Tyler Kennedy, and with all that said, you have a recipe for another run at the Holy Grail. In the end, I see this team being much different than your past Caps teams.

This team is better on paper from the 2009 version of the Pens, and that has been followed up by production. The only thing holding back the Pens from going far is injuries to their star players.

It's nice to see Sid back playing good hockey.

:clap Best post made by you.... ever! Love a Caps fan seeing things outside of the box, and not going based on bias for the love of their team and superstar. I always had no problem admitting when the Caps did well, despite my well-documented distaste of the team.

And yes, I still believe this Caps team can challenge for the Stanley Cup. Get the teams best players interested, starting with Alexander Ovechkin, and they have the depth, grit, and scoring prowess, not to mention the backbone to go the distance. Their goalies maybe inexperienced but they know how to win the big important games come Spring time. Their tenure in Hershey is evident of that.

Pens are exciting to watch(especially with Crosby) but, i'm more interested in seeing how St.Louis, Nashville and Ottawa are going to do come the first round of the playoffs.

Hell, i'd like to see Philly go deep this year, maybe even win a cup, and St.Louis especially.
