Oh man, so many great things to comment on and I've only got a few minutes of break left and this thread probably won't be open later. :lol

So let me throw out just a few quick things. Obama's an idiot and a largely immoral one at that, but a Muslim? Obviously one verbal slip doesn't make it so. Who knows.

Dinosaurs are mentioned in the book of Job, which IIRC is actually the oldest book not only of the Bible, but one of the oldest in all of history. They weren't "added later." ;)

I can't remember your other questions but if the thread is still open later I'll go back and check. That doesn't mean I'll have all the answers (we obviously aren't meant to know everything right now), but it could be fun fuel for discussion. :)

The thing that always gets me about a religion like Christianity is that they say animals have no souls or spirits and will not get a chance to go to heaven or hell. Why is this so?

There's actually a verse in the Bible implies that the animals of earth might be redeemed after Judgment Day as well. I'll try and look it up for you!

Why would God play games? To amuse himself? That sounds terrible. Why would God teach us lessons that cause us harm and humiliation? Some Christians will say because that is exactly what we needed to learn but I say why would a God as they describe be so spiteful and vengeful when he is supposed to be perfect and loving.

Keep in mind that we're here for less than a millisecond in the grand scheme of eternity. A millisecond! Harm? For a millisecond. Humiliation? Ditto. The Bible says that it won't even occur to anyone to talk about this life in heaven. I doubt that after living in a perfect society with God, angels, and whatever fantastic creatures and settings exist in heaven that many people will be saying, "Hey remember that humiliation I suffered on earth? That sucked!" "Earth, isn't that that place we hung out like 20 billion years ago?" "Who cares?" :D

God made cancer. God made war.

No He didn't.

:lol

The infamous London bombing threat. Over two dozen of them were arrested and the majority of the released the following day due to no evidence whatsoever. Not to mention it has taken them this long to come up with anything at all. All this happened while Bush/Blair ratings were reaching an all time low at that time. How convenient.:banana

Its amazing how weak some people are!!!! "Oh its an article with proper spelling and it looks neat so I believe in it":rotfl

Dinosaurs are mentioned in the book of Job

No. You interpret Job as referring to dinosaurs, which is actually a radical interpretation among Christian scholars and which still collapses in the face of the archaeological records.

No He didn't.

God definitely created cancer.

As to war, this one hinges on the question of God's omniscience. If he knows everything, including all possible universes, yet chose to create this one knowing everything that would ever occur in it (as opposed to the universe where the Iraq war never happened for example) then yes, in one sense God created war. The obvious answer to this is that God is not omniscient after all. Sadly the question of God's omniscience and free will are not compatible.

Here comes barbelith with all the answers again.

I just saw Omniscience and Free Will having lunch at my McDonalds on Labor Day.

The passages in Job aren't in any sort of detail about that, it's all speculative. Personally, I think a lot of that is left out due to mankind and his primitive mind at the time. God can't describe cell division, evolution or mass extinction to man of that era... they would not have understood.

As for the tailbone debate... God would not have given us a useless tailbone for no reason, hence the fact that we have that bone due to genetics and evolution of our species. It shows that we are mammals and we are only special in the way we think and create.

he isn't Muslim. it was a slip.

It wasn't even a slip. It was poorly worded, but what he was referring to was the fact that McCain had not brought up the question of his Muslim faith, i.e., had not questioned whether he was Christian or Muslim.

I think that's pretty much common sense.

What I'm curious to know is if he qualifies as an apostate.
