"Pretty mega pieces" actually has me a little nervous if it refers to size. I don't know if I'll be able to resist it. :lol

Well what do you all think they mean by MEGA, size or something that we will not expect?

I hope something we will not expect. Or maybe a large dinosaur, or a really popular one, or something really far out there. I just hope its not too big/expensive.

By "mega" I think they probably mean popularity, as I can't imagine SS making the maquettes or dios in a larger scale than that in which they are already rendered. This way all pieces coalesce in some form and have a better flow as a cohesive collectible line.

I'm still waiting for my Carnotaurus maquette to arrive :(

It's been more than 4 months since I placed my order (even though this bad boy was released around a couple of months ago), and I'm starting to lose patience....

You ordered from SS?

I'm still waiting for mine, but only because I had to put him on flex pay.

I ordered it through a model kit/collectibles distribution company in our country but the person in charge of the company told me that the maquette hasn't arrived yet. I could make orders directly from Sideshow but if I do so, the maquette will get stuck at the customs office once it arrives, and I will end up paying additional tax and extra fees to receive it (That's what happened when I ordered the Tyrannosaurus Rex vs Triceratops dio).

So a question for you clever dinosaur types...how do we know what colour a Carnotaurus was? Or what colour any dinosaur was? How do we know that they had stripes, markings etc?

Nice photo! I don't think I've seen one at that angle before, I like it!

To answer you question, we do not know what color any dinosaur was. All we have to go on are their fossilized remains. We do sometimes find skin impressions (we have some of the Carnotaurus, in fact) which often reveals a pebbly texture across the skin.

It is believed that dinosaurs could see in color, and of course the birds (the living descendants of dinosaurs) are among the most colorful creatures alive today. Very often you will see striking displays of color in animals, not necessarily for camouflage, but for display purposes. For this reason, many recent depictions of dinosaurs are more colorful than they were several decades ago. Very often, a serious paleoartist will look to living species for inspiration when coloring a dinosaur. For example, the "breakup in color" as Sideshow calls it, can be seen across the body of their Carnotaurus. This is consistent with the patterns found on many ambush predators today, such as tigers. Such markings make the animal's silhouette more difficult to pinpoint in the foliage.

So the short answer is no, we do not know what color dinosaurs were. All we can do is make educated guesses. :)

i like the colorings they give dinos today. when i was a kid everything was green and brown like gators and crocs i guess. boring. unfortunately i missed the UPS man yesterday. he usually comes at about 2pm but yesterday he came after 3 which is when i work. hopefully he comes early today.

I guess you didn't have the dinosaur set I did where the steg was bight orange and yellow and the rex was bright green and yellow. The brotosaurus was pink and yellow, and the brachiosaurus was blue and purple. :lol Damn I loved those toys.

Extremely educated guesses as to the color schemes for these animals. Whether cryptic coloration (camouflage), aposematic (warning) coloration such as in mullerian or batesian mimicry, or sexually dimorphic displays, odds favor dinosaurs having strongly relied upon a wide range of color schemes not unlike that which we see in extant birds and reptiles. It's a commonality across the animal kingdom, so while we can only do guesswork, we can look at the closest living relatives to dinosaurs and arrive at very logical deductions.

the rex was bright green and yellow.

If the T.rex hunted from within the cover of foliage, having relied upon camouflage of both the surrounding forest growth and light breaking through the above canopies, that's actually a sensible pattern. :D

I recently seen some of these at my local Toys R Us store! :D And they are retailing at an affordable USD$7!!To be honest, I was really tempted to buy the Triceratops and T-Rex but in the end, I spent my Toys R Us Rewards Vouchers on Star Wars figures instead.
