I received mine today, and I have to say that I'm not particularly impressed. Sure, it's a nice figure with a great likeness, but the armor and the body suit... . I guess I'm spoiled by the Medicom standards: Better body suit, and I prefer the softer vinyl like material that Medicom uses for armor to Sideshow's hard ABS. But I also think that those advantages Medicom has, don't justify the high price point. So, Sideshow wins this round after all. If only they would use a softer material for the armor on the future releases.

Perhaps this has already been sorted out by someone here, but I'm still a bit puzzled about the hologram device on Obi's armor (right vambrace). I suspect that on the figure, Sideshow has it on the appropriate side, but that the image on the package, which shows the hologram on the left vambrace, has been mirrored. I would have to review the Clone Wars cartoon to be sure though.

It does show up on his left, but the movie clones only have the device on the right, so SSC put it there.

It all comes down to preference really. I've got Medi and Hot Toys armored figures and before Obi-Wan was announced, I preferred Hot Toys' use of hard ABS as it made it feel more like actual armor that could protect the figure, something about the softness of Medi, even though it looks solid, knowing it's easily flexed like rubber takes away some of the magic. I was delighted when I found out Sideshow was going the hard ABS route like Hot Toys.

I definitely like the ABS myself. I actually get indentations on the inside of the bicep armor (edit - on my Medi Clones) if I leave the figure's arm against the side of the chest armor for any length of time. The ABS stuff is rigid and does not mal-form that way. It is also thinner and causes a very little less restriction on the articulation. The same goes for the body suit. It does not have the actual stitching for the pinstripes, but I prefer that as it seems to me that the tight stitching restricts the articulation of the Medi figure ever-so-slightly. I have a very strong preference for articulation over, what I perceive to be, very minor screen inaccuracies. I also like the looser fit of the SS armor. It also serves to restrict the articulation just a little less.

I think BOTH companies could have done better there, though. I would have been good with a skin-tight body suit of spandex with the pinstripes weaved in to the material or dyed.

I have swapped out the body suit on one of my Medi Clones with the spandex one from a Hasbro Stormtrooper and it has greatly improved the articulation.

And I don't even think about the stripes, let alone miss them.

Finally got around to opening mine today. Great figure, same things that have been noted I would note, the difference in coloring with the belt, the hologram on the wrong vambrace from the cartoon, the loose joints on the legs. Looks great posed on the stand although none of the hands on his left hand really hold the saber as well as the right so he looks weird holding it but its a little thing.

Does anyone have any ideas for taking the armour off yet? Need to strip him down to tighten up those joints.

Would blasting the underarm seams with a hairdryer to soften the glue work?

Cheers,
Doug

Seems like the Sideshow Armor is a bit thinner as well... I could be wrong about that, but either way I do prefer Sideshows. Also the poseabilty (minus the loose leg issue) is much smoother with the Sieshow figure.

Received my exclusive from ebay last week and it came with a missing right arm Rex. I contacted the seller so he could have SS send me a replacement Rex. Just got a conformation from SS that they have more Rex and should be sending out one to me.

My General Kenobi figure arrived yesterday.

It's absolutely fantastic.

The likeness is perfect and much more striking in person than in the photos (and I thought that they were brilliant!).

Here's some crappy pics (couldn't be botherered to get the lighting rig & tripod out)

Assuming you bought directly from Sideshow, they should replace it no problem.
