what was the blur out on dutch? I wasn't collecting yet when that figure was first released...
I was around and bought Dutch when he was first released, but I don't remember this either.

Right, that's what a fellow member mentioned. It's happened too many times for Hot Toys to keep repeating this oversight. They must do it to generate collector frenzy.
I agree, that's what i said a few posts up, but some people apparently had a problem with the smiling head
I think it's cool and for a DX, HT better include a 2nd head sculpt.
It's well made, but with only 2 faces to use, it's not the most Jack face. Something closer to the photo HT put up in its place at Toy Hunters would be more appropriate.

I totally love both heads. It's even worth it to me to have two so I can display both.
This hobby never ceases to impress me, it's so cool that different people can look and the same thing and see it so differently.
I honestly can't think of a face that's more of a "[captain] Jack face" than that one.
With those gold teeth and eveyrthing? They seriously stepped it up from that, and I'm positive that it's been taken down because they're just waiting for some legal issues to be wrap up.
But yeah, that face was awesome. And this is coming from someone who stares at pictures of Johnny Depp a lot. A lot.
Probably too much.

It wasn't a blur out with Dutch. First, protos photos of Dutch and Billy were published in some magazine that was posted on the web. At that time, it was a decent Arnie portrait but they didn't have his likeness so the camo on his face was way overdone to hide the likeness. People were dissappointed and not long after the images were pulled for licensor reasons. Finally, some time later, new photos came out with a really nice likeness and even listed approval for the portrait, but people still were critical and the images happenend to be pulled again for licensor approval. At last, a 3rd set of photos finally appeared showing the headsculpt everyone received.
So at first, it was like they wanted to see if people would buy Dutch without a great likeness like the old Alien Marine days, they wouldn't so they go and get rights and do a pretty good job but then people were still unhappy and magically the licensed likeness was still not approved so they had to come back a 3rd time and finally the majority were very happy and no more approvals needed.
This would have been allright too,
If I could choose, this would be what smile I'd want, without a doubt. It just perfectly captures him: mischievious and confident.
One of my greatest fear is paying intrest on a cc.
I've had my cc for 7 years now and I've never paid intrest once.
I usually preorder late to make sure I can afford it but this time I really wanted to make sure I got this so I went the paypal route.
I'm hoping the smiling face ends up somewhat like your sig pic maulfan.
So am I, to me, a smiling Jack head that well represents the character is a devious smile. The spare head with Cannibal Jack failed to capture it, the 2nd face with this DX so far has failed to capture it. They make him look too happy and jolly, that's not Jack Sparrow, even when he is happy, he looks like he's up to no good. He's a mischievous pirate.
OK, I understand now.Yes, I think their photograph makes him look evil, but I know from my own photography, you can make a sculpt look different emotions with varied lighting. I think other views of the EB head will show it looks more like Jack smirking than an evil mad man like their teaser. The expression looks like Depp from the Public Enemies poster, which I feel is the perfect smirk for Jack, maybe the same with his mouth a bit open showing some teeth, but the smile HT showed us looks way too happy ot me.
Absolutely agree.Completely!
To me, that looks a lot like the head that we were (briefly) shown.
I think, regardless, everyone is going to be really happy with the end result here.
And as I'm sure we're all aware, sometimes its pretty hard to judge a sculpt just from pictures, a lot of times they really come to life in hand, and some of the smiling head's detractors may end up being totally impressed once they have it in person!
