Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I have the Will Turner and others on here have Cannibal Jack, so they've definitely come to the states, and sadly Sideshow is sold out. There's always the chance a few will turn up in the warehouse, but that is likely your best bet for the waitlist.

Wow, they must be really rare then because there are none on ebay inside the United States. Thanks for the information.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

They are rare, Davy Jones and Cannibal Jack shipped like summer 2008 and those were the last two figures to come out.

Just this time last year every web merchant was pretty much giving them away. Got my Jack for under 100$ at BBTS. Crazy what a year can do with new figures bringing in new blood wanting previous releases.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I know people that sold the collection but it's not cheap. Never opened. So you can pm me ;)

thanks but I don't want to pay alot more than retail. I can live without them if they've gone up that much.

It's all timing. I can't remember what else was coming out when they originally shipped, but if timing was bad, I'm sure POTC got set aside by a lot of folks for other collectibles, so places like BBTS were stuck with inventory, things eventually clear out or those people suddenly can snag those figures, so lots of people jump on small stock, eat it up, and eventually they become impossible to find.

I always buy HT outright, it's easy to do and you save a lot compared to if you pull the trigger too late, sure you might find deals hear and there if you wait or look around, but for maybe $20-$30 in savings, I'd rather pay that than $300 for a $150 figure, which is how it usually goes.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Anyone have price guessimates for what the figs are going for now?

I have 2x Jacks (reg and Cannibal), Davy and Eliz, never got Will or Sao. Just curious what the big winner is here, since there's two versions of Jack I'm wondering if one of the others has gotten crazy with pricing.

EDIT:

After a quick check on ebay, looks like Cannibal Jack and Will go for $300-350+. WOW. Glad I got my Cannibal Jack, almost passed on him.

Davy is the lowest, still about at cost -- too bad, he's really an underrated figure.

Hard to believe the Will figure would be so high - its a great likeness but the character...meh. Davy on other hand is a great figure and was a great character.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I cant believe the prices on these either. I really wish they would have done Barbossa at least though before stopping. Maybe when Pirates 4 comes out.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I picked up some Newline pirate boots to finish customizing my Jack. I decided to pick up the rough natural colored ones and dyed them to give them a more natural look.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Hmm, those don't look half bad. I might have to consider getting some for my POTC customs. Thanks for the idea!

I don't suppose you'd be willing to part with the original Sparrow boots now?

I might be willing to part with the boots, but I want to wait a little while until I'm done with my custom.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'll have to get some of those boots. I just moved Sparrow onto a TT slim body, but he's not really any shorter because of those darned plastic boots. The new Line ones aren't really proportioned correctly, but it's a start.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

maybe you can use a drill bit to make the boots deeper. i havent seen the inside but im sure it would work:whip

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It's easy enough to just remove the ankle extension bits on the TT to shorten him. There's a tutorial somewhere in this thread I think.

That won't help with the Slim. The Slim TT has skinnier calves than the regular one. Snapping off the extensions on a regular TT works because the calves are so thick the boot is snug around them, but the Slim calves flop around inside the boot and wouldn't be stable.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Ah. good to know. But I thought the foot pegs still plugged into the shortened ankle instead of the calf keeping the boot on?

As far as I know from people, because I asked about the trick before choosing it, the only thing that keeps the boot on really is that the calve is snug inside it. You can't put the ball joint inside the calf after the extension is removed and the base of the calf is too big to insert into the ball joint hole in the boot.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

You could probably modify the end of the calf to take the ball joint, but that sounds like a lot of work.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I actually swapped my Jacks and Will to Slim TT bodies and removed the ankle extensions from all 3 calves. The pirates definitely look shorter (they lost a good half inch or so), but it's true the boots won't stay on well. As long as you pose them on a stand, they will be fine. One could always add some padding or tape if you want the boots to stay on snug.
