Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

If HT would have done the colors to match that screencap then it would be perfect.
I don't care for the vibrant red on his claw arm or the bright pink of his face. A figure should portray how a character looks on screen not what he would look like in my living room.

Jack's bandana is off like you mentioned and I wish they would correct that on Cannibal Jack.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Well, the trouble is, Disney's a giant like Lucasfilm, so who know how bad they are about approving products before release. HT may have chosen more film like but Disney said nuh-uh. There is always the chance of a different look once it ships anyway.

This is what V1 Jack Sparrow's prototype looked like.

Versus the final look.

The jacket got worse, but everything else in my opinion came out much better than the prototype suggested.

I would also prefer a more screen-like appearance. I like the greenish hue best, although that wasn't his true color in the day shots. But hey, at least we got him. It's an easy paint wash to do yourself to mute the colors. I'll probably do that to the bright red claw at least. His lobster hand was never that red.

How's this:

Looks nice Wor Gar... more screen accurate for sure.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I just pulled the reds down and added a bit more green and blue, then desaturated the whole thing.

You could get this effect by giving Davy a paint wash on darker green, on his face and claw and crab leg at least. That is, if you want to risk it.

I think the only variation HT could ever do with Davy is offer a blister version with the muted colors more like the above pic. But then, he might not really mesh with the more colorful versions of all the other pirates we get.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I kinda figure the HT version is how Davy would look w/o lighting effects or any camera magic. So we're probably getting a very accurate representation... just maybe not how he would appear on the screen.

I think you are right. Davy looks painted pefect for the day shots, which is what he actually looks like. Its the lighting that makes him more yellow or green instead of his pinkish look.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Except the claw and leg are never that red. Not even in the day shots.

It could very well be the HT photography though as MF pointed out. They tend to run rich in their colors.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Just received notification, both Davy 1/6 and the Rambo bust are due for an April release date.
It's gonna be a long 3 months.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

That's not at all long after Jack and Will.

Good thing I know this now, 'cause I'm going to have to save up.

Man WG that looks amazing!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm up for it. I wonder if there will be another release with him, like Jack and Will are releasing together.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Ya, Davy is good enough to stand on his own.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a Barbossa premiered soon, but Jones is enough to wet people's appetite and keep the interest going. Toy Fair is coming, so if they already have more POTC to show off, they may be holding back for that.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Barbosa is very close. I can feel it.

He's my number 1 most desired Pirate. Moreso than Jack or Davy. Of course, when Hector and Davy are released, that will officially close my interest in this line. I will consider my Pirates collection completed.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I have to agree, while I want to follow this line completely after I have Barbossa and Jones I won't HAVE to have any other figures....
