Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Also, looking at the proportions in this image, Jack is going to be on the same body.

I agree. Sadly.

Part of the problem is the giraffe neck they use for Jack. You could save about 1/2 an inch by cutting that down. That and lowering the shins deeper into the boots. Might be my only option to get Jack the right height.

Need to solve that before Davy arrives and looks like Baby Davy next to Giant Jack.

I don't even think the neck's an issue, just the torso and legs look so elongated.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I wonder how you could transfer him onto a Dragon body? Legs and arms are no problem, it's that neck that might not work for Dragon conversions.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I'm thinking of trying to find an older HT body like Hicks has, that one had more human shoulders and was smaller I think too.

Just for kicks, I quickly photoshopped his head a little bigger to illustrate more proper proportions for Johnny Depp.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

On the subject of the HT body, I was looking at my M-65 Rambo and the body on that figure, same as Jack, was nagging me so I decided to see what's going on with it. Here's a shot to illustrate. I can tell that Hot Toys probably made some moves to achieve more articulation in the shoulders but in my opinion, they sacrificed human form for that and it hurts the figure look.

The way the current used male body's shoulders are, they are almost dead level with where the shoulder meets the neck. While they are a bit wider than they ought to be, it's more this lack of angle that makes figures like Jack and Rambo look overly broad shouldered. Medicom has achieved articuatlion while keeping a solid human shape with their shoulders, I think Hot Toys could learn from that, and I sure hope that Sideshow's bodies made in collaboration with HT don't have these shoulders. You can also see a significant gap between arm and body. I'd prefer a few less pose options and more normal shaped body over this. Jack would look so much better with an older HT body. I marked in red what I think a good human shape would be, which includes a little reduction of the neck as well.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I agree with that. On OSW someone modified a HT body to get more poses out of it. One thing he did was sand the shoulder down a little. The Hobbit body looks to fix this and the large hips, so hopefully that continues into a new SSC body.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yeah, lower the neck and lob off some of that shoulder height sticking up and you'd have a good figure shape.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

It's a shame really, I didn't find an issue with the old HT body, but if it can make a character like Rambo look too broad shouldered, it'll only look worse on someone like Jack Sparrow. I think the V1 Sao Feng benefits from the style of his costume.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Wow, that is a killer price! I thought for sure it would be closer to $200.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks, I'm holding out for Sideshow, $10 saved on shipping counts when you get as many figures as I do.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Wow! Nice price....and I'm surprised by the April release date.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Excellent price! That's a welcome relief... I was expecting at least $150.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I was gonna order from Toys2, but since its shipping in April, 2ndQ, I am gonna have to wait till Sideshow gets it in. I cant really afford to add another $150 to my already stacked 2ndQ.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I might have to go through SSC as well....Q2 is already putting the lean on me and I don't think I can afford another hit so soon.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

:wave count me as another going through SS when they put it up, and hopefully NOT in Q2 as my first and second quarters are stacked the way it is and I don't want to give any of it up.
