Or prove the reverse. But I'm talking in the "understanding where the other side is coming from" sense. The liberal position makes sense to liberals. The conservative position makes sense to conservatives. Neither position makes much sense to the other side because we're not having the same discussion (we don't start with the same assumptions).

Having these discussions without trying to understand and respect where the other side is coming from is pointless.

Really? A lot of doctors would disagree with since life is measured by our brains. Once the brain is dead you are dead - the heart can stop but if the brain is still active you're still "alive." Where is the brain when the sperm hits the egg?

That's certainly one opinion. I find it interesting that the medical community disagrees, but then what do they know?

Opinions are great for deciding how your family should proceed. It's the height of authoritarian arrogance to use that opinion to decide how other families proceed. I find it interesting that the left doesn't try to force people to have abortions or marry people of the same sex and so forth while some on the right are hellbent on the opposite.

I was trying to be funny. In seriousness, I believe human life and possibility starts at conception. Maybe thats old school...really old school. I don't know. Its a travesty (though a natural one) when a conceived fetus dies due to abnormalities or accidents or whatever, so the purposeful destruction of it is pretty gross and reprehensible to me. As I said, I'm not opposed to preconception birth control, condems, tubes tied, whatever, but even the concept of a morning after pill makes me sick.

And I'm using my simple freedom to see that other people don't have the freedom to due harm to what I value...potential life (with potential freedoms of the highest calling). While the left doesn't sit down and force people to kill their baby, they certainly have advertised the possibility enough to pretty much make it a mainstream and almost preferred option to the point that people recommend it to single mothers-to-be.

Well said... It's such a horrible issue to even try and find a position on. Really there is no wrong or right in my eyes, just a terrible decision for a few people to face if that time comes.

I think "potential life" is why nobody chooses abortion cavalierly yet also why it should not be banned. Freedom means people get to do things you don't want them to. I'm sure you've adopted several hundred babies and are not calling for the creation of a problem you have no interest in solving...

For everything you think the right tries to shove down your throat, the left goes the opposite and tries to shove its beliefs down the throats of others.
