Don't forget though guys, Denny despite not being the artist gets just as deflated as rainman does with the bad feedback. A lot of the interpretation, sometimes misinterpretation comes down to language and culture barriers. despite the hurt feeling, it always results in a better product in the end.

Transparency and step by step progress is usually the best method to avoid surprise. You will never be able to please everyone. and it's easier to express opinion when not face to face.

I see disappointment but not a lot of disrespect here. Plus the set is still not sold, that to me speaks volumes. It's why i think an interpreter is a good idea so they can understand in most cases the feedback is constructive and not destructive.

I do, however, agree about having one person appointed by the artist as middle man between collectors and artist in order to give the artist a drama-free summary of suggestions and ideas.
The problem is, to be drama-free, you need someone reasonably objective here with no agenda of getting certain figures made, or of otherwise influencing his decisions. Just a messenger. At that point, you almost have to step outside the board completely, or at least go to someone who doesn't collect the guy's stuff. No offense to the guys who have played this role for Rainman or other guys--it's completely understandable that if you had some influence you would try to push for your own pet project to get made, etc.--but otherwise that is either going to happen, or there is going to be the perception that that is happening, and drama will ensue.

But I also agree with this suggestion. I think Rainman could really benefit from having a native English speaker to play the role of an intermediary, promoter, and customer service guy.

A few good points made here, but it basically boils down to how Rainman works as an artist. He asked me to relay the info to everyone here because he's too busy to give updates, especially when the sculpt isn't in his possession. That, and he doesn't want to read through so much negativity just to find a few positive comments. He's doing everything he can so all we can do is give him our support.

I'll start by saying (again) that if I ever came across as tactless, too pushy or rude in stating my opinions then I apologize to Rainman as it's never my intention to make him feel bad or disrespect him. My disappointment on the PF releases soured me a bit and again I'm sorry if any of my statements were too forward.

But like Ray said there was a good amount of disappointment with these PF releases and like KM80 said there is no way to sugar coat that much negativity; no matter how diplomatically its stated it's bound to sting a bit. But I have to agree with Ray and and say that disappointment does not equal disrespect. Several aspects of the release fell a bit short of what many of us were hoping for, and when we voiced our opinions about it we got The Man down in the dumps. What does this all mean? If we're disappointed we're not supposed to voice our opinions on a collectors forum but if the release lives up to the expectations than it's ok to shower him with praise?

There is a clear artist/fan, buyer/seller relationship here.... and it is a two way street. Aside from fans, friends, supporters, admirers, etc., we are paying customers. I don't think that having expectations of what a release should be made of should be so off limits for us. RM charges top dollar for his pieces and I’m more than eager to drop the $856.90 per piece (non-DX, shipped) or $1,022.80 (DX, shipped) that he asks. He has set a standard with the best of his previous releases and if every release is to be priced equally, than I feel that every release should be given equal attention, have an equal composition and be equal in quality.

To those out there who feel that the PF boys didn’t suffer from a rush in production… well I have to respectfully and severely disagree with you. The sum of my nits boiled down to feeling that the sculpts could have used more time to be perfected, Vince’s book should have been bound properly and should’ve been more on par with the standard quality level of a Rainman accessory, and the briefcase should have been included with Vincent. As a paying customer and loyal supporter, I don’t feel that I was out of line in feeling or saying so. A rush in production that diminishes the quality of a set is not something that I’d like to see become a habit going forward.

This post is not meant to dwell on negativity or drive RM further into the dumps. This post is directed more toward boardies than it is at Rainman and it is more of an explanation of my feelings on certain matters as I’m sure I’m being lumped into the “tactless” bunch. I just want to try to better explain my standpoint and have it known that I speak as a fan and supporter. Rainman expects to ask top tier paper for his pieces and have them fly off the shelf in the blink of an eye; I expect for each release to be as impressive as the last. Neither one of us are out of bounds for having these expectations.

I will continue to be a fan and client and Rainman always has my love and appreciation. I wish he was able to see that times like this are quite rare and he constantly receives way more praise than anything else. I wish that in the rare occasions like this he could take the criticism a bit better and learn from it instead of shutting down.

Oh I forgot to add that any jokes I made about drama in a RM threads really has nothing to do with him personally. I was referring to the drama that insues between the rabid fan base. It happens in every thread but it really never has anything to do with him personally and it is always an issue amongst boardies so he really shouldn't feel bad about that.

Spot on! :exactly: perfectly put

Also agree with that post. Hope Rainman can blow us away with the new Jules headsculpt soon... but I'm honestly glad that we spoke up to get changes. If we had all been silent or a few people here singing praises, I think most of us would end up disappointed when we each got the Jules shown to us earlier.

I completely agree. Scott handles it very professionally.

A big mistake that Rainman and other artists have also made, imo (and I'm sorry if some of you don't like what I'm about to write), is that they have allowed too many people to contact them directly, mostly to waste their time and for their own personal interests. People who want to be in the loop and whose only interest is to brag that they have news and inside info, more than help the project. Unless the artist is the one who approaches a regular joe collector/customer, we have no business bothering them like a groupie/fanboy. I work in the entertainment industry and see this happen all the time with sad individuals who want to brag about being "friends" with famous actors. :lol To me, that direct contact is worse than speaking your mind in the thread. Who knows if they are transmitting the information in their own subjective (and more convenient to them) way to the artist.
I do, however, agree about having one person appointed by the artist

:goodpost: Truth.

Everybody seems to have their opinion and say things are being done wrong etc... Then dictate their own opinion on how things should work - Isn't that doing the same thing???

RM is a big boy. I'm sure he will work it all out...

Just posted on Rainman's facebook.

Damn, it certainly seems possible! This is gonna ruffle a few feathers. :rotfl I can't really see too much change from the original sculpt either, but I wasn't too fussed with how it looked to begin with.

Too scare to say it looks the same as before? :lol:lol:lol:lol

Gulp...

Well it's definitely improved!

Rainman, if you read this, I think most of us all really appreciate your work. You put your heart into every release as each signed certificate says. Any negativity is from our love of the characters, not any distaste in your work!

Well, I had stated several times that I was happy with the first one, so I don't really care. Improvements were welcome but it wasn't a deal breaker for me.
