Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

I wonder what impact it will have on Rainman's fullset's if he uses Iminime long term for his painted head and clothing sets.

I could see Rainman's paintwork being better than DF Studio, but for my taste, Iminime is a couple of notches above Rainman.

I know Teddy is 100% into Rainman's stylized paint, but not sure how many others are.

you know i was thinking exactly the same thing myself earlier. some people have mentioned they like everything to be done by the same guy, to have a full rainman custom. that will still be a selling point for the full set. i'm sold on imimine's paints for the head and clothing sets though.

I also thought the exact same thing earlier. Yes I like what Rainman does but the vibe at the moment seems to be that most are preferring Iminime's paint ups. This could have a big impact on his future fullsets.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

As I said before, Rainmans paint apps will always be worth more, considering the exclusivity.

Many people could care less about exclusivity though. For many (such as me), it's just about what looks most realistic/screen-accurate.

Surely that will have some impact on the perceived value.

:exactly:

Most will not care about what it is worth but more how it looks and what they prefer. If your in it for future value then your in the wrong hobby

How many people are actually even familiar with the name Rainman? Not many, if the pricing is higher for his paint ups and Iminime's is just as good then the price will no longer be justified.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

There is a small market out there that will pay for the Rainman name, but a majority of collectors will list accuracy/realism as their #1 criteria when it comes to 1/6.

I get the feeling though that Rainman has enough VIP members/die hard fans (and this is not a knock on them, as I know many of you are in this category), whether from these boards of from his old core customer base in Korea, that will always buy his fullsets. So he is virtually guaranteed to sell out the small full set runs he makes as long as his core customers still have jobs pretty much.

I just think it will effect the aftermarket value more than anything else.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

I'm still not completely sold on iminime paint apps just yet, but they have improved dramatically fast which is a sign of things to come. I wish Rainman would improve on his eye work a bit, I wasn't really impressed with Wonka's dazed expression. On a personal note I think SilentSurfer is King of the Hill when it comes to paint!

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Hi guys~~

Rainman is our Art Director and all of our sample painting is carefully directed by Rainman.(I also give some direction too)
Our painters get lessons from Rainman and our main painter got his first lesson from him

It's a matter of style of painting that you prefer and I believe that Rainman's painting is much accuracy and better ^^

Thanks

Denny

Oh I agree, but exclusivity sells. Although Rainmans paint apps are amazing and hard to beat.

Rainman has done a great job teaching your team, but yes, my point is simply that I prefer your team's style over Rainman's. It's my personal preference, and to me it looks more 'realistic'

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Like others have said, I haven't seen Kim's team's paint in hand, but it does look quite impressive in pics. I'll know for sure when Doc shows up!

Personally, I've never thought of Rainman's paint as being his primary strength (though he is an excellent painter and surely outshined DF Studios with the Bill paint job)--his tailoring and sculpting really take that nod to my eyes, where I think he rivals any custom artist or professional sculptor for Hot Toys. That's why I don't mind picking up the parted sets painted by others.

In fact, the biggest x-factor for me regarding Iminime is the tailoring. Rainman's work in that area is second to none, and I'm curious how Ra's will turn out.

But isn't Rainman's tailoring 'outsourced'? I don't think he develops the clothing himself. I'm sure he has a ton of input into it though, every step of the way.

What I think Rainman's #1 strength is the little wonderful accessories, some of them have been absolutely jaw dropping over the years. I think his sculpting is also very refined, but also stylized.

He definitely has a great eye for details.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

From my understanding, Rainman initially does the tailoring himself. He then outsources the production of clothing for releases to his partner based on his designs. Someone else may correct me if I'm wrong. But whoever does it, it is really outstanding. If you haven't seen that tailoring in person, it rivals anything I've seen HT put out.

I've seen a bunch of his pieces in person at Shorty's place, totally agree, matches and sometimes outshines HT's tailoring (the Dude is perfect, as is Bill)

Didn't know that about him doing the tailoring himself initially, very impressive indeed if that's the case

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Rainman doesn't do any tailoring to my knowledge.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Sad to see posts here compairing Rainman and iminime paint apps, and whose work has more 'value for money'. So much that Denny had to post about Rainman being his team's mentor and stuff.
