Back from viewing #3... and still love this movie. Maybe even more the more I see it. So much fun to watch. And this movie feels real in a way that TFA did not. Awakens has a lot of scenes that feel like I'm on a sound stage. Rogue One feels like a real universe, much like the OT did. I experience it as if I was just thrown into it and have to catch up. TFA feels like too much explaining half the time; people talk but seem to be speaking to the audience more often than to each other, especially Maz. When I leave Rogue One, I feel like I left a real place in a galaxy far but not that far away.

Strangely, Saw is growing on me. I'm now amused when he snorts from his 'gas' mask and then insists everyone is lying to him. :lol It's just weird and original.

Wow two months later..and people are still going to the theater to see this

Since you mention it, that reminds me of Dennis Hopper's character in Blue Velvet.

I'm looking forward to seeing it again - I never felt I had to rush back and see TFA though. TFA felt like it was hostage to what it was trying not to be (PT) and in doing so ended up being a revamped ANH clone. Rogue One had it's lesser elements, but overall, I agree, it felt like a real world in a way TFA didn't. I loved the final act... superbly choreographed and satisfying denouement.

Just read that the whole Vader wrecking ball end scene was one of the reshoot add ins.
All I can say is thank heaven for reshoots then because that was one of the best eveeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrr....
Damn

Six chapters George gave us and couldn't deliver on making Vader look that awesome.
You just know that when George saw that scene he thought " ***, that's hardcore wicked."

The Deathtroopers on the other hand sucked, they just looked cooler sucking.

My problem with force awakens is not only that it feels like a set but it doesnt have the sense of urgency that rogue one has.
At first when they meet Han the momentum of their escape goes down because they are goofing around so much in the ship.
Then the squid scene is completely unnecessary and feels like fake conflict ( like deleting the squid scene would not change anything at all and the conflict that the guys bring in is not really needed for the main story)
Then they go to the cantina and it feels like a set. Like you said. They tried to recreate the feeling of the cantina from the OT but they fail with it.
The second act is just a mess all around. The third act is very good with kylo but the middle of the movie is messy
I love the final fight with kylo in the snow but i have to fast forward to it.

Rogue one i feel like it has NO unnecessary or messy scenes. Everything has a reason to be.
No scene felt messy. The movie for me flows perfectly.
I Know there were reshoots and i know the movie had some rocky problems behind the scenes but i felt nothing out of place or any problems.

I loved all the characters, i loved the asian guy. His positivity made me smile. I loved his confidence.
The last act with the ships was just amazing.
I loved the point of view from the rebel ships when flying around.

These might be the best space battles in the entire franchise just because of the amazing camera work.
It felt like the ride at disney. I wish i saw this movie in those moving seats theater.

I want to go back just to see the third act again.
Vader was not even my favorite part. It was the space battle combined with the beach battle was really amazing.

I love the part when they were setting up the bombs all over the beach. It was a lot of fun.

The sarcastic robot to me was much better than C3PO, he was a little similar but i loved him more.
I had more fun watching him. I was very sad he died

The opening sequence was a bit odd - setting down a couple hundred yards further away than was necessary to allow the dramatic tension to unfold was cheesy. Tentacle-squid truth monster was weird. Characterisation was a bit thin because they had so many to introduce, and the way they were introduced was a bit copy-paste. The editing could've been tighter. The score was ok.

This is nitpicking, but I could see where the production had its problems.

So whats Vader's deal?

He has to make a fist to use the Force? ....and he makes the fist with his "human" hand?

He did it throughout RO.

But not in OT? He does raise his hand in the meeting room, but I am pretty sure he kills Oswald from across the stars with just a look....

Good quick review, to the point.

This is nitpicking, but I could see where the production had its problems.

The beginning was needed to explain what happened to her dad. It could have been more detailed in a flashback later in the movie but i didnt have a problem the scene itself. Maybe it could have been placed in a different place in the movie. But it was needed.

Tentacle scene could be weird but it was very short. I take the tentacle scene in here over the tentacle scene in force awakens any day. At least they made it very short.
It was so short it doesnt hurt the movie.

I didnt feel the characters were as thin as everyone says. We met them at the same time she did. We were introduced to them same as her. I think it works. We are folllowing her story and we meet them and then the story continue.

I mean how much backstory or development did the marines had in aliens? Or even the crew of the first alien?
How much development did the team had in predator?

They were pretty cool in this movie. I really really loved the asian guy and his friend the most. I liked their friendship. I loved how they were there for each other at the end.

The way everyone goes out is very epic. It kinda gave me chills. It was very intense to see each one go out. I loved that each person had a mission that needed to be done regardless if theumy died or not.
I liked everyone. Cant say i disliked any of them. They could have given them a llittle more of a backstory but it wasnt needed.

The only bad thing of the movie that i disliked was the music. But the visuals and the action makkes up for it big time

I actually like the music in many places. I really like the rebel scenes with the over-the-top military music (like when they march Jyn into her meeting) -- very corny, very cool, like an old war movie. The music played like that in many places. To me it became more problematic when it tried to shoehorn in Williams' work. I'm on the fence with the title theme. But I liked the weird music upon the opening when Krennic's ship was flying thru the rings.

I'd have to get the soundtrack to know for sure if I like it thoroughly. Giacchino is very talented at times but can be very uneven in my opinion and often plays things way too quiet for my tastes.

I hated the weird remake of the star wars main score. It felt like watching a bootleg version of star wars :lol

I also hated the bells some songs had. Some songs were ok but then weird bells would be added to them... sounded weird as hell
