Star Wars really has never topped the ingenuity and inspiration of the TIE fighter. It's such a crazy bizarre design... its just awesome.

It's one thing I was really disappointed with in TFA -- that 30 years later and supposedly a new regime couldn't push science to the next level and create the next amazing craft. Crafts that could make the First Order more unique.

Agreed. Every OT movie and RO all introduced new Rebel and Imperial ships and TFA stands alone as having nothing but simple TIE's and X-Wings. I know that both were "enhanced" but I was hoping for something more.

Yep. At the end of the day, the TIEs were TIEs with red accents. Not a real stretch in science after so long.

I think, with all the complaints that TFA gets, the single most offensive to me is this lack of advancement of the tech. A big part of the charm of Star Wars is the tech. If Stardestroyers and TIEs looked different, it may have inspired further unique designs for troopers and everything else... and consequently felt more original and "of its own time".

But that's clearly NOT what Disney wanted to do with the new trilogy. The base tech is already given for the trilogy.

I don't get why they wouldn't atleast be red stripe painted Tie fighters andvanced or TIE interceptors. Those were clearly superior to the original TIEs.

ROTJ opened with two regular TIE's escorting Vader's shuttle to the DS II and then later introduced TIE Interceptors about an hour into the movie. TFA could have easily done the same. Have regular TIE's for the Jakku Falcon chase and Takodana attack and then maybe fancy new ships protecting Starkiller Base.

I have a feeling time constraints may have played a part in the lack on new designs in the film. It was an area I felt was lacking as well.

What's funny is that apparently even Starkiller Base can fly around the galaxy (in order to keep system hopping in search of new suns to drain.) Where are IT'S thrusters? :lol

I think Kylo Ren would just move the stars closer to Starkiller base using his super exaggerated force powers!
