Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

Hmmm...taking a dark and gritty character and making a comedy out of it, intentionally or not.

Isn't that what killed the Batman franchise for so many years?

Wolverine wasn't a comedy, but it had some humour. What Marvel movie doesn't? There's nothing wrong with that, having a good laugh every now and then doesn't hurt.

Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

Just got back from seeing it and it was better than I expected. Some of the negativity definitely comes with knowing a little of the background on the characters and their relationships. I also thought Wolverine's claws looked too CGI (at least when he isn't using them to cut stuff up). The moments with Wolverine and Sabertooth were the best parts and made the movie enjoyable.

As a side note, Gambit's powers in this movie seemed odd. I've only seen Gambit throw the cards and in the movie they floated in midair then were sent forward. I'm also unsure if he can transfer kinetic energy through his staff. Hoping someone will lay some Gambit knowledge on me.

Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

Not a bad movie. They could have developed the story a bit better.

Worth watching for Hugh Jackman who was born to play Wolverine!:D

Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

I was actually pretty disappointed with this one....

For one, they didn't even show how he got his powers! I mean, I thought it all began when he was "weapon x" project under Stryker, no? And then when his claws first came out of his hands, didn't he bleed and scream in pain?! It just seemed like the movie wasn't true to the comic and it didn't really give me that sense that this was a Prequel, like it should have been.

Another one of my qualms, Ryan Reynolds is not a good Deadpool.... He's more of a comedian now. I think he's HILARIOUS in other movies, but I just can't take him seriously as a skilled assasin bad ass. But question, does dead pool really gain all those powers in the comic books?! He literally wouldve been invincible!

And lastly, emma frost was not hot enough..... IMO

Man its difficult to go back and forth between both threads.

Well, Wolverine is a Mutant, so his powers are genetic.
Read some Deadpool comics, because Reynolds played him perfectly. He's known as the Merc with the mouth

Gambit can transfer kinetic energy into anything he touches (that isn't living tissue), so yes, his staff can also channel his power too (including Wolverines skeleton). They pretty much nailed his character, bar the crazy wall running (and he seemed to forget his accent at times.)

Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

I thought Incredible Hulk was average at best but I still enjoyed watching it.

Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

It's as good as the Incredible Hulk, but not as good as Ang Lee's Hulk

Incredible Hulk was much better (than Origins) IMO....I'd say it's as good as Ang Lee's Hulk...or as bad

On Gambit

Gambit, as a clone of Mr. Sinister, can actualy do quite a bit with his owers. He has them "toned down" to prevent himsself from LITERALY blowing up the world, as well as affecting living tissue. Amusingly enough, when he has the genetic blocks removed to acess his full power, he can Actualy touch the woman he loves (Rogue) with no ill affects. amusingly, however, this puts the rest of the world at risk, so his "surgical modifications" stay on.

If he concntrates, he can even superchare air molecules and use them to affect things without physicaly touching them, however this takes ALOt out of him.

On wloverines powers and acenstory

Wolverine, Sabertooth, Feral, Raine Synclare, and several others are members of the species Lupus Superior. Yes, You read that correctly. LUPUS superior. they are mutated WOLVES, not Humans. they can trace their ancestery back to Canine ancestors, as opposed to Apes. As such, their Powers are all very simular, and are genetic. Meaning they were born with them. if you pay CLOSe attention to the opening sequence when Young wolverine Kills Logan, He does so with his claws. Which are still bone at the time. ( logan being the man whom his mother tells him is his father, was the groundkeepr at the Holwette Mansion. wolverines Birth name Being James Howlette. His mother had been having an affair with the groundskeeper. Stories vary, but i BELEIVE he takes the name logan in the film becuase he feels bad. In the comics, a young girl who was his frined that ran off with him Told the owner of the mining camp they ended up in his name was Logan, to hide his true identity. Yes, in BOTH stories Sabertooth is the son of The groundskeeper, and Wolverines 1/2 Brother. In the comic, he was simply called "Dog"

And onto the subject of Deadpool

Deadpool is a jerk in the comics. His mouth is considered his most dangerous weapon, as he taunts and insults and talks nonstop. It annoyws and irrataes ihis opponets to the point where they make a mistake, and he can get to them. during Civil war, cable sides with Captan america's Secrit avengers, and deadpool sides with the government. Deadpool goes after Daredevil, and ends up taking on all the secrit avengers. at one point he slaps a "device" onto daredevil, and tells his it's an interdimensional teleporter, and in 5 seconds it will teleport his ( daredevil's) brain to dimension X. Daredevil peels the device off, and looks at it, and says " this is just An iPod with some double sided tape on it" Deadpool suckerpunches him, and takes daredevil down, and replies "I know, but it distracted you" Moments later the rest of the avengers show up, and take Deadpool down. When cap askes Cable how to restrain deadpool, he responds " Duct tape. Lots and Lots of Duct tape. At least one roll for his mouth alone. "
On the subject of his skill, There is a point in the gambit limited series where a 1 million dollar bounty is taken out against Gambit. Gambit spends the entire issue outwitting and outrunning mercenairys. he finaly gets stopped by the constrictor.. and then deadpool comes in, and knocks the constrictor out. He's about to put gambit down, and gambit askes him " so how much are they paying you?" Deadpool tells him the price "1 million"
And gambit ofers him 3 million NOT to kill Gambit. Deadpool agrees, and gambit leaves. there is a woman running with him (i forget who it was, might have been currier) and she askes gambit why pay Deadpool, since he's eaisly outsmarting and out manovering all the other mercenairies? he replies " simple, Becuase I CAN't Beat Deadpool, not while running from everyone else. I can run from deadpool Alone, or I can run from the chumps. Not both at the same time. He's THAT good."
For the record, Gambit is Head of the unified Guild of Theves and assassins at this point, the 3 million dollar check he writes deadpool is legetimate.
You want to see definiteve, Comic book accurate deadpool? go watch the animated "hulk Vs. Wolverine" movie. It's Deadpool EXACTLY how he is in the comics. Yes, he's an incredable assassin, but he's also a complete goofball.

That's ALOt of text.

Ang Lee's hulk was ok, but it suffered from indeciseveness. It seemed to shift from draama, to advbenture, to action and back far too freqently, and not very fluidly. if the transitions were more fluid, I think It would have done much better.

Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

That is ALOT of marvel knoweledge there bro. I feel suitably humbled.
I thought I knew alot :p

Re: Seen the full feature version of Wolverine!

don't feel tooo humbled. I only know what i know becuase i spent the last year reading EVERY issue of x-men, and X-men extended family issue ( x-force, x-factor, new x-men, one shots, Wolverine, limited series, Cable, etc etc etc. ) from the 1960's all the way to just before messiah complex. Im sure i've forgotten a few things too. I'm eagerly waiting for the next comic pack to be released, so i can get caught back up again.

give me a few years and i'll start forgetting things, i'm sure.
