Well, he looks good. I have a lot of reward points now but not sure I need a new Maul even if he is this good. The seams do bother me in those close ups but in any posed shot so far, they have not been noticeable.

First SSC figure I have even contemplated since Jango. I think I will hold out a little while and see if he goes no sale (which he will based on the interest in SSC offerings lately).
Jango was kind of a disaster. He had the knee pad issue among other things. Mine didn't have the excess flash cut off the pieces that fit into the blaster barrels.

This figure has almost no flaws in comparison. Sure, he features weaker joints than I'd like, but meh. They work well enough.

The macro shots are emphasizing that seam just a little too much. I have one on mine, but in hand I can barely ****ing see it. I'm sure with it being painted black, some bad eggs might have slipped through QC assurance checks.

By the way, I'm 90% certain the ears are painted with a thinner layer of black on purpose. Just an FYI for those actually interested in getting this.

Does anyone have the Medicom and old sideshow cloak? Which do you think personally looks better with this iteration? Any comparison shots of him wearing both?

Also, has anyone attempted a mod to strengthen the joints? I'm not really sure there's a good 1/6 black body out there that is exactly the size of poor Maul.

First time attempting to link an image, but you can see red among the black of his ears here. I've seen stills from other scenes where the red isn't apparent though, and other figures and fan art always depicts them solid black. But yeah, at least in some stills the thinner black paint on the ears is accurate.

yeah in any real viewing the flaws are just not visible. The macro shots were purely to show how much detail was in the sculpt and its pretty good.

Looks good...will wait for the inevitable Hot Toys release
Does Hot Toys even have any of the prequel film rights? Either way, we may not see any of said figures until they've thoroughly milked the OT lines.

I know the price is high and it's lacking accessories, but if you want the best Darth Maul you can get right out of the box... this is it. If you're lucky enough to somehow get a cloak, then he's that much better. The sculpt is damn good and the paint work, if QC did their job, is pretty amazing. And the tailoring is the best I've seen on any sideshow figure.

The Hot Toys release won't likely be much higher quality in comparison, unlike the Vaders, which Sideshow seems to have difficulty with. They nailed this Maul though. It is the best thing they've ever done in this scale. Hands down. Hot Toys will definitely pad him with goodies though.

I received this guy today, he blows my Medicom 2.0 out of the water(as the M2.0 did to my original SSC). This may be Sideshow's best head sculpt and paint ever. Anyone waiting for a Hot toys release should just pick this up because i can't imagine anything (barring an alternate head or cloak, the latter which can be bought loose from the medicom) that could improve it.

Good to know! I get mine today. Bought it on ebay using a bunch of eBay bucks to cut the cost.

Have you tried the Medi cloak on him yet?

I was going to, but I'm going to put the medi cloak back on the medi since the duel has the best body. I had the old ssc with the medi cloak posed from Tatooine in one display and the Medi2 posed from the duel in another, I'm going to swap the medi2 into his cloak and pose him for Tatooine, while leaving the SSC2 for the Duel. The old SSC1 will probably just get packed away.

I'm wondering if a medi cloak would be the best for him or if a SS version is a better fit. I'm thinking the Medi might be too small.

Pretty much this.

I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be kicking themselves for not picking this up. The Hot Toys version will be great, but outside of a few minor issues, it won't blow this one away. Not by a long shot.

And I don't see the price of this one ever going down. Ever. He's that good. He really only needed a cloak. That was it. They fumbled pretty hard in that department and seemed pretty adamant in not listening to the criticism, but meh. I'm just glad I finally have a damn good Maul.

Just opened mine. Better pics later. First impression is that this is SS best figure to date.

The sculpt still doesn't hold up to the close scrutiny most HT sculpts can but in normal viewing distance he's great...really great. Outfit is awesome. Ankle articulation, although limited, is a huge improvement.

The overall scale of this thing is perfect. Very unSideshow like. No big head or hands syndrome whatsoever. This is so close to a perfect figure in every way that it just hurts that they didn't add a cloak and tighten up the head seams and paint apps a smidge to truly make it a $240 figure.

8/10 score!

Better and more pics later. This is all I had time for.

If this had been 40.00 less and had a cloak, I think I would have happily purchased it. I go back and forth each day but 240.00 just seems way too high, especially when you look at the Snowtrooper set.

The wire in his clothes add something special and I like the new light saber blades.

This wouldn't have been $200 in the slightest, for the simple fact that this is Darth Maul and they know he sells. Including the cloak to make it worth the full price, yes. Dropping it to $200 though, is asking a bit much from Sideshow. They didn't even double down and include a cloak for petes sake. xD

He's worth the price, if you're a big fan of the character. If not, it's hard to swallow, since he is missing the cloak and all.

He arrived up here today...a couple of quick photos at work...

To paraphrase Cocoboloboy...it's one of Sideshow's best to date. The outfit is steller. One of my co-wokrers complimented the gloves and boots. They do look really nice. The portrait is really good. Nice sharp horns and piercing eyes. My only (very minor) nit on the paint is the stark patches in the red...it shows up more in photos than when it's displayed right in front of you, Just a bit of blending there would've gone a long way. But again, it's minor and doesn't detract from how cool this figure looks.

Looking forward to futzing a bit and snapping some shots over the weekend...well done, Sideshow. Still enjoy the first release, and this one really looks good too.
