Received my clothing set from toyanxiety yesterday. Had to shave down my custom body a bit for it too fit, but I got it to work. I do feel the chest and waist area is too tight, Maul's clothing was pretty baggy. It's a darker black than the original clothing, which is nice, and it's softer overall.
Now my custom head is too large though, and I think I do have to hunt down a sculpt as well. :p

Does anybody have side by side comparison shots of the V1 vs V2 lightsaber hilts?

Anybody have a shot of him next to TPM Obi Wan? I'm thinking that will be my display when I get him. The two of them clashing sabers.

Here you go...

Not exactly clashing sabers yet (if you go for that, post a shot!)...hadn't moved the TPM Kenobi in a while...experienced a bit of a shock. All of the lower body joints are rag-doll loose now. Can't stand unassisted for more than a moment. I may look for a replacement body here...any recommendations?

Back on topic...they look pretty good displayed together...

That's a great shot. Thanks for that. Gives me a better idea of scale side by side. I'll post pics when I get him.

Here a shot of the V2 clothing on my custom (mix of bodies, customized V1 sculpt), together with my custom Vader (ignore the unfinished hands).

This is one of those cases where it's just easier, and likely not vastly more expensive, to just get the figure and bypass all this modding. He is pretty damn close to perfect right outside of the box. His joints might be weaker than most people would like, but they're manageable at the best of times.

I would gladly support more sideshow releases like this, if they were always like this.

Have to agree with you there, especially if you're in the US. European dealers have this priced absurdly high though, so I'll probably still be saving quite a bit of money buying just the parts. And my body is a mix of Truetype slim and TT advanced, so the joints are nice and tight. :)

I'm surprised prices are still so absurd for these overseas. You would think these collectibles would be so mainstream now that prices would fluctuate within reason of the respective currency. Are there no alternatives?

Got my replacement saber today. Now instead of the blades being stupidly crooked, the holes in the new hilt are too way too big and the blades just fall out. Obviously nobody spent 5 seconds to test the blades in the hilt before they sent them. Guess I'll have to put some glue on the blade pegs to thicken them up so they'll stay in. At least they wont be so crooked.

Aside from that, this figure is top notch.

Went back and read ur original post. That sucks dude, whats the point of sending a replacement if its still flawed? My blades fit just fine, but the actual blade has a bow to it. I think i'm going to heat them up a little and see if that will work to straighten them.

got mine today. typical sideshow QC crap like floppy useless loose body and loose saber holes i had to fill up. Im really impressed with the headsculpt and paint though. Overall, cheap box, cheap body, incomplete outfit, no accessories and ridiculous price point makes it a bitter pill to swallow overall, but Im happy to have a solid Darth Maul in my collection.

I also took out the wires in the tunic which gives it a much more natural flow and helped a lot IMO

Wow! All those problems you'd think you would just return it. But I look at these Sideshow figures as kit bashes. Enough in the box to make a better figure and sell off the rest. It's what I did with:

Hoth Luke
Hoth Han
Red 5 Luke

My next kit bash comes next week.

Darth Maul

I still can't quite bite the bullet on this one! Being made redundant end of January and this just seems like it could be a mistake!
So on the fence :(

That Vader looks impressive! What's your recipe?

Thanks man. I used a mix between kaiyodo, Sideshow V1, and Sideshow V2, with most parts modified and/or painted. You can read the full breakdown here: link, though I've since switched the bodysuit to the new Sideshow, and modified the body some more (using muscular kaustic pelvis & legs).

I was able to snatch a sculpt and lightsaber from toyanxiety last night, so I'll be doing the full upgrade after all. :)
