FINALLY!!!! Vader can do a front double bicep!!! And can finally go over 9000! (DBZ)
Well this redo of the Sideshow Darth Vader figure definately looks and feels like Vader has been busy in the gym. The new under suit is very thick and gives Lord Vader the right amount of thickness while not making him look fat or chunky.
A drawback to the new suit is that it can be a lil harder to put on the hands now but that's because the amount of room between the glove and suit is minimal (the way it should be). I found the figure was sturdier than my deluxe. I worried because this was a rehash and after my experience with Jango Fett (which I love but found cheap in some areas) that sideshow would have some shoddy workmanship...but I found this to be better than the deluxe even without the new stuff.
I really like the new hands...was never a fan of the hands on belt pose...but I converted and it's actually the pose I have Vader in on display. The lights work amazing...only one switch and it all goes on (I think the deluxe was 2 but can't remember).
I had 2 problems with this figure that I think were also problems with the deluxe version. The feet don't rotate well (ankle rotation) and the codpiece (which visually looks way better) is a bit high I think. Neither things are major flaws for me though. Another fault could be the robes...they are great with this figure...but I felt they may have hung better on the old version. Here is a comparison pic between new version on the left and my deluxe on the right. I sold my deluxe to fund this figure (but kept the stand, parted helmet and box [emoji74])
In comparing this to the Deluxe Vader, the main difference is obviously the suit...but that trickles into how much my posing of the new figure changed. With the deluxe I always had him covered up...legs, arms...I still got good poses out of him but could not get a good looking, menacing Vader with the skinny arms/legs and now I'm noticing how odd the old undersuit looked (kinda like a tight leather pinstripe suit). The gloved hands are also a major upgrade...looking less plasticky and more like a leather glove.
My main gripe really is I could not get my Hot Toys Vader head on it. If anyone could clue me in as to how the HT goes on the SS Vader send me a message PLease!
For those asking about height...he's as big as the deluxe version. It is oversized...check out size comparisons between the deluxe and the HT Vader, which is already a tall figure. But I like it that way...to me if any figure should be oversized in my collection it is Lord Vader.
Overall it is a great upgrade on the SS deluxe. The undersuit makes a ton of difference. Vader is all about presence...with the force, with his commanding voice and with his massive physique. Sideshow did it right here...id go as far as to say that this is better than the Hot Toys in that respect. I was really hoping to show you this Vader with the HT head...but that will be for another day!
Take care collectors!
