As the ideal of ownership dies, so too does the ideal of Capitalism. Perhaps that's one of the many reasons we're seeing so many changes in government right now. Perhaps a more socialist state will be the inevitable outcome for generations uninterested in ownership. They want everything made available to them without the responsibility of ownership.

They may convince little kids and uneducated blind followers but not people with brains or that understand what they trying to do. America was founded on freedom one of which includes the right to ownership, if they strip that away they have a big fight on their hands. Worst case scenario brain drain everyone who understands what they are doing will move out of the states, mainly all the smart people. This happened to europe back in the day when all the smartest fled to america for higher wages and to avoid crazy taxes. Its part of the reason why america flourished for so many years after ww2 ended

Ya man covid really ****ed up thier plans to get us all plugged into thier monthly matrix and or digital matrix. Its been an explosion of physical 4k catalog titles but lets not get to excited since they are obviously doing this to make up for closed theaters and revenue losses due to covid.

I think we're inexorably moving towards a post-capitalist, post-monetary system. The simple truth is that our "consumer society" just can't go on forever. The planet doesn't have the resources for us to keep "consuming" and pretty soon, thanks to AI and automatisation, there won't be enough jobs for everyone. If we do survive, I think our future will be a moneyless, jobless future, where we just follow our passions and personal interests.

Isn't that Heaven?

I think we are all going to become robots. Well, cyborgs, hybrids, transhumans. Perhaps the new jobs will be designing VR space/environments... perhaps you'll rent out your robots to do your work, perhaps you are required to have certain amount of hours doing some national task? I think there will always be trade. There's stuff you need that you can't get any other way.

In all fairness I bought a crap ton of the ROTS figures when if first came out and they are all worthless. What do you mean by sells? The hot toys and higher end collectibles? Then yes people like the characters more then the movies- its a very strange phenomenon- but they do sell. BUT all those 3 3/4 sith figures are absolutely worthless nothing like the OT ones, I have bins and bins of them I cant even give away. Most are worth less then retail price even the retail exclusives like Lava Vader and Lava Obi Wan lol. So I wouldn't say RotS merc has much value outside of the big ticket items. There isn't **** for demand for the smaller Sith vintage movie figures at all. The ot well we all know about that, sure some of it is due to age but im telling you those sith figures just go down in value over time while the OT figures go up

That?s cause they keep making and updating figures like black series and stuff like that so people prefer to buy those figures instead of the old outdated versions. Or old school figures sell cause it?s iconic and novelty

i dont think so man, thats why I get confused sometimes when people cite toy sales for the PT. Unless are they are talking about expensive HOT TOYS cause nobody cares about the PT 3 3/4 figures at all. This leads to another question How many people actually spend 200 usd plus on a figure to begin with? I guess when you say toy sales i think about the masses and the 3 3/4 scale figures but they dont sell for PT nor the ST like they did the OT. So i dont know where all these PT toy sales are coming from that people keep citing here, outside of people on this forum who are big spender collectors.

If you go by just this forum then yes PT figures sell better then ST for sure but if you go out into the real world aint nobody buying PT figures- (st figures do not even register as sales cause nobody buys them but PT isnt much better)

Actually if you take a close look, nothing star wars sells really well anymore (outside of Mando merc)- between the PT and ST they killed all toy sales even the OT. Just take a look at big bad toy store all those black figures in stock, then check out figuarts all those star wars figures in stock like forever, then go to marvel section big difference in demand esp with figuarts figures .Do the same thing with the Japanese websites that sell those figures. All marvel sold out all star wars available

Idk bout all that man. Rots statues and collectibles are always sold out abd darth maul sell out to. So it?s not just here. You can?t really find hot toys anakin anywhere

It's hilarious that a bunch of websites that have spent literal years defending the ST suddenly have a huge problem with it long after it's end because Boyega criticized it.

Where will goods, services, homes, food, etc come from in this future :lol. Automation is real but can't do everything. Some people really need to take a break from Twitter.

Possibly, but it's not such an obscure idea...

They have been conditioned by companies like fortnite to buy digital goods that will disappear when the game does. They get kids hooked on buy costumes and digital avatars that they dont own instead of toys they would have forever. Now when these kids become adults they wont buy movies everything will be digital purchases where they own nothing. I feel sorry for this generation, they will wake up one day and realize they dont really own a god damn thing all that money spent under the guise of ownership and nothing to show for it. Hopefully when fortnite goes belly up and it will end at some point kids learn their lesson if not they are ****ed to a life of fake ownership in digital rights

Soon we won't have a choice but to own digital media; physical media will go away. I don't have a problem with that so long as I can make my own DRM-free backups in case they become unavailable somehow.

Also, there *is* value in enjoyment. You don't necessarily have to have anything to show for it later. Even my physical collectibles I bought for enjoyment rather than as an investment.

Sounds utopian. Sounds like... Star Trek!

You'll still have humans so there will always be trouble.

The worst part of this planet is it human inhabitants. There will never be a time where all humans are kind and docile. Never. There will always be those who take advantage of the others. Always.

Sounds utopian.

In other words hilariously unrealistic. This idea that fools have that everything they want will just be given to them while their own personal robot performs whatever tasks they desire. Many people have had it good for so long that they have forgotten what happens when you let a system control your life and make all decisions for you.

I agree about the utility part, many get the same enjoyment from the digital copy as they due the disk They may not care about atmos or having best image possible so yes its a huge consideration but remember just cause you “own” the digital copy today in movies anywhere or apple-as we see with fortnite all it takes is one dispute with a retailer and your movies are gone- all your apple ****, yes you can back up hd but not your 4k movies.- all gone. Now if you buy the physical copy you own if forever nobody can prevent you from playing it until they stop making players but with playstations and xboxes thats could be a long time.

Also yes people shouldnt be buying plastic **** or even higher quality statues just for investment however it can be comforting for some to know that they could get some, part, all or in some cases more then what they paid for said item. You cannot do that with digital goods ever plus you have no keepsakes to pass on to your kids

Also lets not forgot if you do no pay for internet access you cannot watch your movies and to stream 4k properly you need expensive internet plans otherwise the signal will automatically get degraded by the service (streamer vudu/apple ect) provider without you knowing you have to check info bit rate to see

Again, I think some of you guys are just taking a very simplistic view of it, but hey, this isn't the place for philosophical discussions on the future of mankind, this is for serious stuff!

I wonder what's coming in the next couple of years for Star Wars. I haven't heard much apart from Season 2 of The Mandalorian and the concepts for the High Republic stuff. Seems awfully quiet on te Star Wars front.
