Right. I don’t understand why she gets all the hate when the rest of the cast is just as bad? Is it cause she wanted to free the damn space horses?

Oh and Andy Serkis was spotted at Lucasfilm. :yess:

Hey if Maul survived all bets are off.

See what happens by bringing Maul back now anybody can survive being cut in half so why not Snoke!

I think the sequel cast is fantastic and KMT might be a great actress. Just poor writing.

All of the new characters suffer from the writing in TLJ but Rose comes without a pre-existing interest.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I think I do prefer TPM Jar Jar to Rose.

Sorry, it's not even close for me. I remember sitting in the theater when I first saw TPM and I was just stunned like a deer in headlights at how bad everything was. I couldn't believe the level of silliness and infatilism throughout, and especially in JarJar. I truly feel bad for the actor Ahmed, especially with everything that's come to light recently. I actually know his twin brother Khalid who I was in college with.

But anyway, that prepared me for the next two movies, which I think got progressively better but still not good enough for me to really enjoy or get into save for a few scenes here and there.

Obviously the prequels did their job and managed to bring on another generation of fans. I'm amazed that there are people who like the prequels, but I can see how someone watching at a more impressionable age would be ok with the silly stuff and would be willing to fill in the gaps in logic and storytelling. I know things I grew up with were probably not great even for the time, but seemed really awesome to me at a young age.

I will say that my tolerance for silly or goofy antics onscreen has always been very low even at a young age, which is probably why I never liked the ewoks either.

Rose > Jar Jar if you don’t mind the preaching.

Funny enough JarJar is the opposite of Rose!

Rose was against the machines of war but JarJar was for the machines of war.

JarJar tells the queen: We got a grand army that’s why you don’t like the Gungans me thinks!

Gungun = GhengisKhan :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Jar Jar also votes for Palpatine to make the galaxy great again.

Jar Jar and Rose would have a twitter war fo sho.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I like ROTs also...

The other two are terrible on just about every level. I mean if you take out Ewan form the films, they have nothing....

Jar Jar was way more used than Rose, way more stupid and low brow.....

Rose had a side quest part, it felt like filler to me. As a result its easy for me to dismiss.

Jar Jar, and the entire Gungan plot, was the center of an entire film, every scene is stupid and cringeworthy. The Ewoks, as maligned and stupid as they were, were again only part of a film....

Therefore overuse of Jar Jar and Then DUMBGANS, is way worse then Rose and her 15 minutes of screen time.

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

For whatever reason I've always had a bit of a soft spot for TPM that I can't really put my finger on. I just like the overall aesthetic (which was totally abandoned in AOTC and ROTS which feel more like "Cool World" movies to me) and unique vibe that it has, despite all the silliness. As I've said before I can handle silly Star Wars as long as it isn't "ruining" great things from the OT. Now a case can be made that Jake Lloyd ruins Vader and that midichlorians ruin the Force but to me Jar Jar and wacky pod racers don't ruin anything because they're brand new creations. Other aspects are just so ridiculous (Nute Gunray, Battle Droids) that I find them genuinely hilarious as opposed to rage inducing, lol.

As for Lloyd and the midichlorians I guess I'm somehow able to see TPM as "half legit SW movie/half cheesy 90's blockbuster" with Lloyd and midichlorians falling under the latter and begrudgingly forgiven/ignored (mostly ignored.) Anyway every criticism ever leveled against TPM is basically correct so I'd never debate anyone on those topics, all I can say is that I still like enough of the film despite those elements, lol.

*shrugs*

It's funny to see which aspects of the PT people give a pass to, I see all this praise for ROTS and I think it might be the absolute worst of the bunch because the things that it screwed up were the parts of the PT that actually mattered. TPM is almost a side quest story of random queens being rescued and pod race competitions being won so for me it's less harm, less foul.

:exactly: THANK YOU, Mad Old Lu! Very well stated! And I completely agree with you.

I enjoy reading different SW opinions, but sometimes things get posted in a thread like this that I find so bafflingly unrelatable that I can't possibly take the thought seriously. The suggestion that Jar Jar was a better character than Rose is one such opinion.

Jar Jar is not only the worst character in Star Wars, but quite possibly the worst character in the history of movies. That's because Jar Jar single-handedly undermined the entire tone of what had been the most successful movie franchise of all time. What had been a universally-enjoyed space-based fantasy saga that appealed to adults who wanted fun escapism which didn't insult their intelligence, got turned into something that anyone with a brain more developed than a 10-year-old's would find insultingly compromised.

Putting Jar Jar in the fourth SW movie would be like making a fourth Godfather movie, trying to appeal to the same audience who were fans of the first three, but sticking Pee Wee Herman in it. Phantom Menace was a movie that on one-hand tried to pass itself off as having pseudo-intellectual themes like all of the political intrigue and covert corruption of an entire system of government by way of manipulation to gain more power. But that same movie decided to have an over-the-top buffoonish cartoon character get more screen time than anyone else in the film. Jar Jar made it impossible to regard TPM as anything other than a regrettable re-direction of a once-proud franchise. It became a joke. Star Wars became something for people to ridicule, largely because of Jar Jar. So, I can't overstate how bad that character was.

In contrast, Rose annoys me because people like her in real life annoy me. But that's the thing: people like her actually exist, and she doesn't undermine the general tone and atmospherics of either the film or (more importantly) the entire franchise. I roll my eyes at Rose the same way I roll my eyes at self-righteously naive people like her in real life. But her presence in the film doesn't insult my intelligence. Her presence in the film doesn't completely alter and derail the tone and intended general appeal of the entire saga. Jar Jar did! The awful joke that was Jar Jar, simply to cater to younger (or dumber) audiences, did damage to the franchise that Rose couldn't possibly begin to.

Rose was annoying. But Jar Jar was destructively ill-conceived, deeply regrettable, and very unfortunate. He was Pee Wee Herman in the Godfather.
