I hope that Palps Ghost isn't going to say that he was trying to build a real-world body (Snoke) for him to inhabit. That's why Snoke looked unfinished. I mean, why can't a ghost just rule. Sidious did a lot as just a hologram -- which is essentially a ghost. His very first shot was as an apparition.

A ghost should sit on the iron throne... er, the broken Death Star play-set throne.

The whole thing is dumb and makes no sense because there are no clear rules or limitations anymore. Ghost Yoda can physically interact with humans and objects and shoot lightning? Now Luke is talking about "no one is ever really gone." Ok...then these stupid ghost are going to be hanging around forever and having people fight their battles? If ghost Han, Luke or Yoda show up to talk more bull****, Rey and Kylo should tell them to go **** themselves with their nonsense.

Well, ghosts are well established from the OT. But spiritual things went wonky in ROTJ when Luke actually "sat down" with Ghost Ben to have a little chat...

And that chat was likely the worst lesson ever put on screen -- the infamous 'certain point of view' chat -- which basically says you can believe whatever you want "from a certain point of view". There is no truth. I think that wrongly influenced an entire generation that now screams 'fake news' and believes insane conspiracy theories rather than factual evidence.

Ghost Ben lying and not admitting his shortcomings to Luke out of fear or guilt makes him a flaw character, which is interesting, but the problem is he's not called out on it, nor does he take any responsibility for anything, and he and the rest of the ghost are always presented as angel figures. They're there for guidance and wisdom, but they're actually not all knowing or wise. They're manipulative because of their agenda. Luke in TLJ was far from confident or wise, so is he now going to be dishing out lessons and wisdom because he's a ghost? Would you even take him seriously he showed up to "guide" you?

Yes Ghost Ben not owning his deception and instead promoting moral relativism has to be one of the most head scratching moments of the entire Saga.

What the hell was George thinking with that one.

So this brings the freaking moral question that always resonates with my entire moral fiber of WHY i am fan of the freaking empire. Lies and deceit are the basic ****ing foundations of the JEDI and not the Sith.

The empire provided jobs for the homeless at a cost, look at how happy solo was after three years of serving the republic, but anyways, Nothing is more evil than destroying a working military colony just for the resistance which begs the question that the resistance and the Jedi are purely space terrorists

Would have been far more interesting to have just cut the scene, or just had Luke live with the idea Ben lied to him, manipulated him. It's the core problem with so much of ROTJ - trying to tie everything up in a nice neat bow for a happy ending. The darkly negative funk that started to seep in in the late 70s that manifests in ESB was trumped by the faux positivity of the beginning of Reagan era. SW has that post-Watergate, post-Vietnam need for euphoria but ESB is like the reflective hangover. Imagine if ROTJ had gone in the ESB direction - a saga that wraps up murky and sort of dark, instead of dancing with ewoks. Would have really been a much more modern-era movie.

Absolutely! :exactly: And believe me I've imagined that very scenario countless times over the years. One reason I'm so appreciative of RO bringing that tone back to the OT.

I think if Ben had come across as an "enlightened" ghost who had regrets for some of his actions in life ("I made one mistake in trying to train Anakin, another when I deceived you") that his character could have still ended up in the same place with Luke understanding and even forgiving him and being a little wiser for the ideal himself.

It was possible. One ending Lucas toyed with was Luke defeating Vader and then putting his helmet on and then Leia having to face him. Something like that. I remember it from the "Behind the Magic" CD-ROMs from the mid 90s. That thing was a treasure trove of information.

But I can't imagine how upset I'd have been as a kid to see that. I'd probably never want to watch any of the SW movies again.

They are setting up for ghost wars. Duh! I mean come on. Star Wars isn’t cool anymore so ghost wars is where it’s at

What about a plump ghost?

Funny: in my generation, the word "plump" and "sexy" never went together.

The Renaissance seemed to like plump and sexy, and the voluptuous women of the 1950s also were a few sizes over slim.

Problem today is when you say plump and sexy it sounds like a sarcastic section title on the 'people of walmart' site (which has for years been one of the funniest, saddest and most disturbing things you can see on the internet, and obviously that's quite an achievement.)

Been thinking how both Kylo and Luke wanted to tear down the old institutions in TLJ. They had the same idea, just coming from different directions.

But by the end of the film the Jedi lived on, and now we have Sith Troopers.

Obi was an Ahole.....pure and simple....

Screwed up training Anakin, who turns into Vader wipes out the Jedi.

Hides his kids to set them up to kill their father....

Manipulated and lies to the kid about his father....

Hides kids sister from him as a back up for killing their father.

Literally kills himself to get the kid angry enough to kill his father....

What so great about Obi again???

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

I spent the whole PT convinced Palpatine’s disfigured face was his true appearance and he was using a Sith mind trick to appear normal as the Senator/Chancellor.

I was a little disappointed at the actual explanation for his disfigurement.
