I believe the idea was that Bor Gullet puts you into a trance like truth serum that makes you answer all questions truthfully for however long you can last until your brain is fried. Otherwise what difference does it make if "Bor Gullet will know the truth" if he can't actually speak words and tell anyone else, lol.
Yes I love the rathtars too I just wouldn't consider them "OT worthy." They're more "Critters/Little Shop of Horrors/Big Trouble in Little China" worthy, which is *awesome* since a big part of TFA's aesthetic was to design it as if it really did come out three years after ROTJ. So rathtars fit right in with all those 1986 beasties from the movies I just mentioned plus the grating and big doors on Han's ship that looked like they had giant yellow "W's" painted on them were straight out of ALIENS. Completing the 1986 vibe were all the Jedha aliens that looked like the goblins from Labyrinth. Very cool.
Yeah, I guess they fall short of OT worthy, which are all more puppety and unblinking-masky. Which is funny to say as a compliment but RO manages to run with it and not embrace it as camp or parody.
