Actually I think tobey wanted sandman. If done correctly sandman would be a good side villain and not a main villain .
Agreed.
Sandman was an incredibly boring character, sure taking away venom and goblin from that movie would have made it less cluttered but we still would have been left with a verrrrry dull villain.
I'm not a spidey comic reader but after watching all of the spectacular spiderman animated series I wish the movie Sandman were more like sandman from the cartoon.
Sandman alone in the movie would have made for an extremely boring movie, especially the extremely emo version of him (we got enuff of that from Pete). The acting was good and the effects pretty well done but the character just couldn't carry the whole movie even with more encounters. It was just definitely too cluttered as a whole but that would have left it boring.
It would have evolved from a Spidey flick into a soap opera. jmo.
I liked the Sandman too. Just wish they hadn't retconned the story to involve him. There was no need for that. -.-
Venom and the completely scrapped, awesome Symbiote Spidey suit hit home the worst though. Although, I'm pretty sure Raimi's heart wasn't in any of it, and that's why it ultimately failed and hindered the overall film.
Well put. Forcing everything to fit ultimately hurt the film and you could tell Raimi wasn't into it either. The degree of a directors passion for the material can definitely strongly impact the film. Venom and Sandman were just a bad fit especially how they were portrayed.
