Re: The Avengers: Discussion Thread

I wonder if in the Avengers they will mention the Hulk-Abomination battle in Manhattan, or will it be like it never happened. :lol

Also in TIH movie, I always thought it was Thor messing with the Hulk during the rain storm and lightning strikes, but I guess that wasn't it after all :slap

That would be a stretch to say the least.

How so....it's a freaking comic book movie with a guy that turns into a monster YET a lighting strike from the God of "Thunder" that pisses off said monster is now all of a sudden a stretch of the imagination. :lol

:cuckoo: Right back at ya :exactly:

The Abomination/Hulk battle never occurred in Manhattan, it occurred in Harlem. Given the closeness of events and the fact that we know that TIH occurred in this timeline thanks to the scenes from Iron Man 2, I'm sure it happened but whether or not to mention a fight battleground to something that occurred 20 minutes away in random conversation is really not significant of anything...

That was just fanboy dreaming. The only "cameo" was set to be a Hulk rampage in the artic that would free the frozen Captain America which was cut although rumors are that Captain America was found still in the artic and that the cut scene might be referred to in passing although never showed.

As usual, an informative and classy answer from Mike :hi5:

ANOTHER COSMIC VILLAIN RUMORED TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE IN THE AVENGERS MOVIE
BY PIETRO FILIPPONI
PUBLISHED: MAY 27, 2011 - 6:45AM

A recent report claims that another villain has been added to the mix of the upcoming ensemble superhero film which will unite Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk on screen for the first time.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, Marvel’s The Avengers brings together the mightiest super hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel’s The Avengers is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

A recent report claims that The Avenges will not only face off against Thor's villainous step-brother Loki and an army of alien warriors (rumored to be the Skrulls) but also Thanos. Known as the "Mad Titan," Thanos was born misshapen and monstrous in comparison to the other Eternals (cosmic entities of the Marvel Universe). Thanos grew into a melancholy, brooding individual, consumed with the concept of death. More than any of his people, he sought out personal power and increased strength, endowing himself with cybernetic implants until he became more powerful than any of his brethren. Over the course of time he's wielded powerful weapons such as the Cosmic Cube and the Infinity Gauntlet against powerful cosmic heroes such as Adam Warlock, Quasar and Captain Marvel.

Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as Thor, Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Captain America, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo (The Kids Are Alright) as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2) as Black Widow, Clark Gregg (Iron Man, Thor) as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) as Nick Fury. Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, Marvel’s The Avengers is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009. The star studded cast of super heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Tom Hiddleston (Wallander) and Stellan Skarsgård (Angels & Demons, Mamma Mia!) who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios’ feature Thor.

:rolleyes2
No, actually it isnt.
There's no friggin reasonable context to the theory.

Why would Thor who hasnt been given his own movie yet be used in such an obtuse way?
He's not even mentioned in the movie. What has ever been published that would incline one to believe Thor has nothing better to do then taunt a character he's never met before?
Since no history had been established cinematically you couldve made a better case for Storm of the X-men being in the area (which would be as nonsensical)

Avengers (2012) movie: Set and Hellicarrier Details from the Licensing Summit
CBN :: News :: Movie News

June 01, 2011

Marvel Studios held a "Licensing Summit" at the Avengers movie set for over 100 specially invited guests that promote, and are related to, pushing their products.

One company in particular, Upper Deck, who puts out various move licensed trading cards, posted a blog about it -- which has since been taken down.

However, it's still cached on google.

There's really nothing that important, imo, that should have caused it to be taken down -- just mention of the Hellicarrier looking pretty awesome and some of the cast.

Check it out:

On Wednesday we were on the actual set of the film and there was a lot going on. Marvel shared that it was the biggest set they had ever built and when we stepped on the bridge of the Avengers Helicarrier, we realized they were very serious. It was like the bridge of The Star Trek Enterprise on steroids, just amazing to behold.

We were not alone at this event as we joined with more than 100 licensees and potential licensees of Marvel with representatives from companies like Hasbro, LEGO, THQ, Disney and many more. As a die-hard fan of The Avengers, I wanted to snap some pictures so bad with my phone, but Marvel wasn’t going to have any of that. Anyone caught sneaking a photo would be quickly escorted from the premises and I didn’t want to miss any of this so my phone stayed in my pocket.

We got to check out some rough cuts of the film (which looked AMAZING by the way) and talk about how we can make the most of all our marketing efforts for this franchise. We are really excited about the opportunities with The Avengers to say the least and we have seen solid interest in our Iron Man and Thor trading cards so far. We expect to see the same with our Captain America product when that launches in June.

One of the biggest thrills was when the cast assembled for only their second public appearance since Comic-Con. Some of the actors were in costume like Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow). They were busy filming that day, but took some time out to visit with us which was really awesome.

Lastly, I can share that we now know who The Avengers will be battling with in this summer blockbuster, but for now, our lips are sealed. Any guesses as to who you think it might be?

The Avengers hits May 4th, 2012 and is directed by Joss Whedon, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

Re: The Avengers: The Motion Picture Discussion Thread

The carrier seems small compared to its comic book counterparts.

Re: The Avengers: The Motion Picture Discussion Thread

I wonder if Spiderman will be mentioned at all during the movie.
